Roserade/Hooded Pitohui

Greetings, beautiful Awards nomination readers! My name is Rose, and I’m thrilled to be running again for the position of Awards Director. Two years of Awards leadership experience are now under the belt, and in that time, I believe we’ve polished up the Awards Season into something sustainable, engageable, and aesthetically unique. Alongside my Awards work, I’ve also served as ‘Shroom Sub-Director and continue to serve as a global forum moderator, so I hope it’s evident how much I truly care about this community. I hope to bring this passion to another spectacular Awards Season – another opportunity to celebrate what makes this community so special. We have the Clown Car running out back, and we’re ready to pitch the circus tent!

Hello, all you readers of The 'Shroom! This is Hooded Pitohui, returning again to run as Rose's Sub-Director. I was Awards Sub-Director in 2024 under Roserade and have been 'Shroom Director on three occasions. More importantly, I am eager to build upon the smooth process of the past two years, the revisions to the schedule around voting and presentations Rose has led, and the expanded visual identity and camaraderie of the Awards Committee to make 2025 a successful and memorable year.

Of course, this isn't truly a two-person directorship! We will be joined in our Clown Car once again by Waluigi Time (talk) and Lakituthequick (talk), two resourceful and reliable community leaders with years of experience with Awards and a knack for keeping Awards documents organized and up-to-date.

Our aims this year lean more managerial, with an emphasis on better organizing a few tasks and projects, but we'll balance that granular focus with continued expansions on the big picture changes of the past couple years. The schedule changes, the binning-focused first pass of Awards, and the opportunities for AC members to take on new roles will all be maintained and built upon.

Campaign Goals and Considerations

The following points are the priorities of our campaign.

  • Continue with additional time for backups: After expanding the working time available for presentation makers in 2023, last year we adjusted the schedule further to ease some of the burden on backup presenters by giving them more time to work. The 5:2 ratio used in 2024 seemed to succeed in making the workload of backups more manageable without creating extra crunch for regular presenters, so we will be looking to maintain that ratio this year.
  • Refine the presentation check-in system: Last year, we tried to add some leniency with check-in dates by asking presenters when they wanted their second check-ins. In a few cases, we ran late with those check-ins. This year, we'll keep a spreadsheet of requests to make it easy to check requested dates at a glance and smooth out 2024's issues.
  • Continue to build upon the visual identity of the Awards: Between the Discord server, our hat-wearing Awards Star, the Bonus Stars, and circus-themed art for the AC this past year, Awards as a whole has developed its own style and a stronger visual presence in the community. We intend to continue fostering that process to further add to the excitement around Awards.
  • Offer AC members opportunities to take on new roles: AC member Youngwii did an exceptional job summarizing meetings in 2024. With this success in mind, we plan to offer members of the Awards Committee more opportunities to volunteer for specialized tasks, and are open to considering any roles they would like to suggest for themselves.
  • Encourage smaller events from the outset of the year: This past year, we discussed shifting towards encouraging smaller events during Awards season, such as small-group game nights or unique events with shorter-term commitments. We weren't able to do as much in this regard as we would like, so this year, we'll be tackling it from the very start of the year, with a stronger foundation like revisions to the usual tournaments thread.
  • Improve other internal tasks: In addition to our check-ins system, we'll be making a checklist for end-of-the-year tasks to ensure nothing slips through the cracks. We'll also be better organizing an effort to replace images in old threads with LTQ's archived versions, be it through an AC member volunteering for the task or a stricter, rotating schedule among ourselves.
  • Maintain an intentional balance of community energy and awards work: Just as with past years, we will remain cognizant and receptive to what our community is telling us. We will continue to assess community energy and interests as we go, and make adjustments in what we prioritize and the scope of Awards in response.
  • Do all the other things: We will once again do all of the other things.

These may be our priorities as we move into 2025, but they are not everything we will do, nor are they immutable. Your feedback, questions, and suggestions will continue to inform our approach and shape this upcoming Awards season. Above all of these bullet points, our top priority is hearing out all of you! After all, Awards only exists because of the wonderful community which surrounds and supports it.

We'll do everything we can to bring you another successful, memorable, and fun Awards, so please consider tossing us a vote or approaching us with any questions. Thank you so much, and here's to another great year!
