The second area

In the GBA version only, the level opens with a cinematic showing Mario picking up a Key and tossing it upward onto the platform above, followed by climbing a ladder to reach the Key and using to unlock the door.

The player starts next to the locked door, under a ladder. After climbing the ladder, the player needs to press the blue Color Switch, and then climb back down the ladder and use the Springboard to the right. The player then needs to move past a Thwomp and land on the blue platform below to reach the Key. The player then needs to collect the Key and throw it onto the conveyor belt below, followed by crouching on the conveyor to get under the platform and recollecting the Key at the end. The player then needs to toss the Key up the ladder onto the platform above, climb the ladder and recollect the Key, then use the Springboard to the left to reach the red Color Switch. After pressing it, the player needs to move past the Thwomp and ride the conveyor belt once more to reach the locked door.
It is also possible to clear this area without pressing any Color Switches. By using the Springboard next to where the player starts and moving past the Thwomp, the player can do a Handstand Jump off of the conveyor belt to reach the Key. After throwing the Key onto the conveyor belt and riding it to the left, the player can reach the locked door.

In the second area, the player needs to press the Color Switches in order to lead the yellow Polterguy above to the above the Springboard on the right, which can be done by pressing the blue Color Switch, then the red, then the blue again, and the yellow to turn the Polterguy into a platform when it is positioned correctly. Once on the next platform, the player needs to jump to the ladder to reach the next set of Color Switches and do the same with the blue Polterguy, this time pressing red, then yellow, then red, and finally blue when the Polterguy is positioned under the ropes. By climbing the ropes, the player can reach additional blue Polterguys-turned-platforms positioned over spikes that the player can use to reach the Mini-Mario, which is being guarded by a jumping Thwimp.
