Bowser Castle 1 is a race course from Super Mario Kart, appearing as the fourth race of the Mushroom Cup. It was subsequently reused in Mario Kart: Super Circuit as the fourth track of the Extra Mushroom Cup. It is a stone road residing in a pool of lava. The music for this course (and subsequent Bowser Castle courses) is a variation of Bowser's battle theme from Super Mario World. Other than Mario Kart: Super Circuit, this is the only course in the Mushroom Cup in Super Mario Kart not to return as a classic course in Mario Kart Tour and the only one that has yet to return as a classic course in any later Mario Kart game.

Course layout

As with the other Bowser Castle tracks, Bowser Castle 1 is composed entirely of straightaways and 90° turns. There are also Thwomps as obstacles, which always appear in groups of four and remain airborne on the first lap. The course begins with a brief straight followed by a left turn and the only set of ? Panels. There is then a straightaway with the first row of Thwomps. Racers then take a left turn followed by a straightaway which has three zippers on alternating sides of the track. After two more left turns, the first of which has more Thwomps, racers use three wide jump pads to cross over the lava; just before the last jump pad is another row of Thwomps. Racers then take two right turns and use another three jump pads to cross over the lava. Afterwards there is two more left turns, the first of which has one last group of Thwomps, and racers reach the finish line soon after.

Bowser Castle 1 reappears in Mario Kart: Super Circuit. It is the fourth and final course of the Extra Mushroom Cup. It uses the background appearing in that game's own Bowser Castle 1. It has an extra Item Box to the right of the bend that comes before the first lava hops. The Thwomps and zippers are not present in this version of the track.
