Mummipokey[1] is the second boss in World 2 of New Super Mario Bros. He is a mummified Pokey with red spikes, along with a bear trap-like jaw. During battle, Mummipokey attacks by popping out of the ground in various places and by spitting projectile balls. The height of how far Mummipokey protrudes ranges from two to five segments, including the head. The time he stays surfaced is dependent on his size: the longer the segments are exposed, the longer Mummipokey stays surfaced. Mummipokey can be damaged from Mario or Luigi jumping onto his head. Alternatively, he can be Ground Pounded, dealing the amount of damage equivalent to jumping on Mummipokey twice, or have fireballs shot at him. While Mario or Luigi is in his mini form, Ground Pounding is the only way he can hurt Mummipokey, and it does not deal double damage like in regular form. Mummipokey can be defeated either from being jumped on thrice, Ground Pounded twice (or thrice while in Mini form), from fifteen fireballs, or from using a Mega Mushroom. Defeating Mummipokey unlocks World 3, or World 4 if Mario or Luigi is in his mini form.
