Gargantua Koopa Troopas are a sub-species of Koopa Troopa native to Big Island. Like many types of creatures on Big Island, Gargantua Koopa Troopas are enormous versions of their counterparts in the rest of the world. The reason for their large size is unknown. In battle, Gargantua Koopa Troopas are harder to avoid than their smaller counterparts because of their size. However, should one manage to reach the creatures' backs, they are much larger targets. After being jumped upon they hide inside their Giant Green or Red Shells.
Gargantua Koopa Troopas were members of Bowser's army during his attack on the eight major lands of the Mushroom World (see Super Mario Bros. 3).
They are basically just gigantic Koopas. Basically, if Mario or Luigi stomped them, they would pop into their shells; leaving a large shell to use to knock various objects and enemies.
Close relatives of the Gargantua Koopa Troopas appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. They are named Ankoopas. However, Ankoopas have the ability to walk upright.
