Questionable username

I'm not sure if this would count as an unacceptable username. Could you look into it please? Thanks. JLuigi.pngJ-Luigi (talk) 13:06, 18 December 2015 (EST)

Hmmm... I'm a bit on the fence about it, I'll ask for input from the other admins. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 14:04, 18 December 2015 (EST)

MarioWiki:Everybody is equal

I'm wondering if we can create a project page claiming that every user, whether new or long-lasting, is treated equally amongst each other, and are just as valuable as one another. Drilly the Elfhog 02:43, 21 December 2015 (EST)

Hello! That's a very good principle, but I feel creating a specific page to mention it is not entirely necessary, given it's mentioned here, here, and it would classify as common sense as well. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 10:59, 21 December 2015 (EST)
I see, as long as they mention something like "Administrators are not kings and queens, and can still be penalized in the same way as normal users should they ever violate the regulations.". Drilly the Elfhog 12:16, 21 December 2015 (EST)

RE:Uploads

Thanks! I try to help out wherever I can! I'm also occasionally finding duplicates and end up reusing assets while tagging the inferior images to be deleted. One such instance was Rainbow Note and File:Shrinking_Tiles.PNG. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 18:59, 22 December 2015 (EST)

Deletion of Green Space (Mario Party 9) redirect

I remove all what's linking to this redirect. The only one remaining is from Toa 95's page, but I'm not allowed to remove it.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 17:59, 28 December 2015 (EST)

The 'Shroom Images

I noticed you and a few other admins have been untagging images for deletion if they are used for The 'Shroom. I get that this decision is made to preserve older issues of The 'Shroom but I tag them for deletion because if you look at MediaWiki Categories, they appear as duplicates because they have been categorized as such, such as Category:Super Paper Mario Images and Category:Mario Kart DS Images for examples. I was hoping an admin would make minor changes to The 'Shroom articles that used the outdated image to use the more up-to-date image. This has mostly been occurring with PNGs that used to be GIFs or JPEGs. Should I instead just remove the categorization for the outdated images so they won't be thought of as accidental duplicates? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 21:39, 28 December 2015 (EST)

There's no harm in keeping the outdated images in the older issues. Yes, the best would be to remove other categories form such images so that they don't show up twice. Thanks for all the work, it's very valuable to our wiki! --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:44, 28 December 2015 (EST)
Thanks for clarifying and adopting my idea. The only harm I see with the older image is using up server storage space. It just felt awkward to have two similar image pages be existing at the same time or even showing up in the category. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 00:19, 29 December 2015 (EST)
I believe server space is not an issue at the moment (though I could be wrong), so no need to worry about that now. If there are way too many images that fall in this scenario you can tag them with the Requested for Deletion template and I'll be sure to change the 'Shroom sections before deleting, but let's go with keeping both for the time being. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 00:24, 29 December 2015 (EST)

Your signature

You didn't change the link in your signature yet; it still leads to User:Tucayo and User talk:Tucayo instead of you-know-what-they-should-be. I know Tucayo still redirects to Henry Tucayo Clay, but I'm just pointing it out. Drilly the Hedgehog 18:17, 29 December 2015 (EST)

It's not like it made any difference, as it still followed rule #2 on MarioWiki:Signature. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:46, 29 December 2015 (EST)

Thanks!

I contacted Pi about that vandal, but you seem to have taken care of it before him. Thanks for blocking them and thanks for hiding that edit on my talk page! Hello, I'm Time Turner.

No problem, I'm glad to help! Pi probably had Recent Changes on Auto-refresh and was on another tab or AFK, it has happened to me. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:35, 29 December 2015 (EST)

Other languages name

Salut ! I was editing the Lumacomète article, and I was wondering what's the wiki policy for the "Names in other languages" table if the article is named after an official non-English source. Should I add the French name in the table? Seems a bit redundant, but then again, why not? Cheers.
Banon (talk · edits) 14:01, 30 December 2015 (EST)

Salut! It's not explicitly stated but other articles do so, so sure, it should be added since it's still a foreign name. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 14:04, 30 December 2015 (EST)
All right then. Thanks!
Banon (talk · edits) 14:08, 30 December 2015 (EST)
So I guess the reference itself should also be on the table, rather than in the introduction?
Banon (talk · edits) 14:13, 30 December 2015 (EST)
For this I see it better to have the reference on the introduction, as it's the first mention of the name in the main body of the article and would be more useful there. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 14:15, 30 December 2015 (EST)
This is my opinion as well, actually. I looked through a few entries in here, and the reference location is pretty inconsistent. I'll edit those articles.
Banon (talk · edits) 14:22, 30 December 2015 (EST)
Ok, thanks! --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 14:24, 30 December 2015 (EST)

It seems that quite a few of these articles are actually named after translations of official Japanese names; however I can't always tell if it's a translation or a romanization. I know that the wiki policy is to use English names when the Japanese is loaning English words, but I don't speak Japanese. Do you think articles like Armored Stinger, Balloon Bridge, Bat (Donkey Kong), Beam Robota, etc. have proper titles?
Banon (talk · edits) 14:49, 30 December 2015 (EST)

I'm sorry, I can't give a proper answer on that :/ Maybe a post here could be answered by someone who speaks Japanese. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:43, 30 December 2015 (EST)
I will. Thanks for your help!

I think that vandal with numerous edits with inappropriate words is a same person. Yup, that's just an imbecile person ranting in this wiki. CSRLady Bow PM2.pngBoo-piranha.jpg 17:29, 2 January 2016 (EST)
Yup, just a random vandal sockpuppeting to evade his ban. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:53, 2 January 2016 (EST)
This douche monkey is just too persistent; fun fact: he copied your name in leetspeak. I know I shouldn't resort to personal attacks, even to vandals, but he's just someone who deliberately wants to mess around by creating multiple accounts to help him do the job, which only gets him into trouble by people like you, RandomYoshi, Walkazo, Lindsay, etc. (for the case of H3nry Tuc4y0 C14y, it was Yoshi876). Also, consider doing a range block in case something is suspicious; I suggest going back and performing CheckUser on the previous blocked users.
@Csrspirit Also, Tucayo is an admin, so he has rollback powers, so of course he's supposed to be fast, since he does this with just one click. Drilly the Hedgehog 20:43, 2 January 2016 (EST)

Sandbox Policy?

I would like to create a sandbox for myself located User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox. What is MarioWiki's policy regarding sandboxes for personal user creation, kind of like {{personal-image}}? I see User:RAP/PNG for example. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:00, 9 January 2016 (EST)

Per this page, you can have "Subpages that serve the wiki (These can include drafts for proposals, test templates, and miscellaneous works in progress.)". Sandboxes fit under this so you are free to have your personal sandbox(es). --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:10, 9 January 2016 (EST)
Thanks. I couldn't find that information. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:15, 9 January 2016 (EST)

Sorry I didn't reply to this. Some people RE: on the opposite user's talk pages while others just directly reply to the talk page like you did. Anyways, thank you. I added a few more details with how to take the best possible screenshots using an N64 emulator of some kind, specifically with the Glide64 rendering plug-in. I was wondering about Template:Mariowiki-image and how it works; can my tutorial page and images qualify for that template instead of being used as a Template:Personal-image? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:08, 15 January 2016 (EST)

Looks good. One question, though. What is the purpose of this section? --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:34, 4 February 2016 (EST)

I made quite a few changes to the page and it needs a look. I was trying to give examples of N64 games where 640x480 is supported. The only game covered by MarioWiki is Donkey Kong 64 and 64DD games (in theory, but I have no idea if N64 emulation can emulate 64DD). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:27, 4 February 2016 (EST)
Alright, it looks good. I scrapped the other NIWA-only games as they wouldn't be relevant for the page and I added italics to all titles. About the missing files, are they files we can obtain easily or is it a wait-and-see-if-someone-uploads-them kind of thing? --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:08, 4 February 2016 (EST)
I requested an image by Bazooka Mario (talk) as she has Super Mario Strikers and can upload high quality screenshots, such as File:MKWii - Blue Fake Item Box glitch.png. As for Wii U, I am having a hard time finding good images to demonstrate each resolution. I'm not using Super Mario Maker press images for the 1280x720 and 1920x1080 examples because they are pre-release images. I kind of want to keep it like one of our editors took and uploaded the screenshot. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:36, 4 February 2016 (EST)
OK, sounds good. We'll hold on until we have the Strikers image and then we'll see what to do with the Wii U. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:38, 4 February 2016 (EST)
You wouldn't happen to know anyone on the forum that can capture 720p or 1080p PNG images from their Wii U via HDMI or has their Wii U GamePad hardmodded to intercept the video signal for screenshot capture? Maybe we can solve the problem that way. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 00:02, 5 February 2016 (EST)
I'll ask. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 10:53, 5 February 2016 (EST)
Bazooka Mario (talk) supplied the image I was looking for (and I also used it elsewhere where applicable). Now I am waiting for Wii U PNGs, if we can find/upload them. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 20:02, 5 February 2016 (EST)
Alright, let's wait for a while to see if we can get them. I'll try to look around. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:35, 5 February 2016 (EST)

I'm debating the name you gave the sandboxed article. I'm thinking MarioWiki:Screenshots is more appropriate because the Wii U and 3DS aren't even emulator sections. Also, should I include emulator names that are known for their accuracy for each section? Also, I was thinking of giving MarioWiki:Image Use Policy some MediaWiki headers. Would my page be linked there if the sandbox becomes accepted policy? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 18:29, 6 February 2016 (EST)

That name could work better, yes. I... am not sure if we can include specific emulator names, I'll ask about that. It would be linked from there, yes. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 01:49, 7 February 2016 (EST)
Yes, emulator names should be included. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 12:50, 7 February 2016 (EST)
I have added emulators and linked to them, but to their Wikipedia articles. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:15, 7 February 2016 (EST)
Sweet. Let's wait for a while to see if we can get Wii U images for it, then. As for Wacky Worlds, I think it'd be good to cover it if it can be properly covered. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 12:13, 8 February 2016 (EST)
Wii U: I just found out you can upload screenshots of whatever you are playing anywhere as long as the webpage supports an upload file feature (such as Special:Upload). Limited to JPEGs. The Wii U has special handlers that will show the TV and GamePad screens instead of the open file dialog box of a regular computer. Upon my personal discovery, I'm starting to suspect the Wii U cannot render games in 1920x1080 (1080p or 1080i). Sure, the Wii U can output 1080p, but rendering a 3D image is a separate process. I think the Wii U is simply upscaling 1280x720 (720p or 720i). Don't know for sure. This could explain why Mario Kart TV YouTube renders (example) are 720p at max and why the screenshots I am uploading are 1280x720. This doesn't explain the 1920x1080 Gallery:Super Mario Maker E3 press release images though.
CD-i: The current Super Mario's Wacky Worlds screenshots are 2x native but it is salvageable right away to scale them to 1x native. For a while now, whenever I see an improperly scaled image that the game is sprite-based and doesn't use true 3D, I shrink the image down to 1x native with no detail loss but rather removing redundant pixels. It's quite easy in FastStone Image Viewer with no filter applied during reduction. The only catch is that the multiple native resolutions have to be an integer multiplied by the 1x native resolution (768x560 is 2x 384x280). I resize the image by ((1 / x) * 100)% where x is multiple times native.

Sorry about the wrongful page names for my sandboxes. All corrected. I am nearly ready to propose something for MarioWiki but I am now tying in additional tags with the sandbox page so that way any disputes with the {{image-quality}} tag can finally end (see here).

'Shroom Images Appearing in Special:UnusedFiles

I've been thinking about this for a while. I know not to mark 'Shroom images for deletion but so they stop showing up in Special:UnusedFiles, would it be OK to create an archival page of some sort for all 'Shroom images that appear to be going unused? That way we can make room for files not 'Shroom-related to show up in Special:UnusedFiles?

If you link me to them I can make a gallery in my user page and they won't show up anymore. Or alternatively I can talk to the Staff about creating something like The 'Shroom:Archive/images. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 17:19, 19 January 2016 (EST)
That would take too long. I've seen a lot. I was thinking of using a MediaWiki search through Category:Shroom images and have MediaWiki list the ones that are going unused. Not sure how to go about doing that but I'm sure it can be done. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 17:29, 19 January 2016 (EST)
Unfortunately I don't know how to do that. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:26, 19 January 2016 (EST)
I guess the best method is to create 23 pages worth of The 'Shroom:Archive/images (2216 right now) for Category:Shroom images:
  1. The 'Shroom:Archive/images/1
  2. The 'Shroom:Archive/images/2
  3. The 'Shroom:Archive/images/...
  4. The 'Shroom:Archive/images/23
The 23rd page will be the starting place for future 'Shroom Images and new pages will be created once 23rd fills up. That way the images are guaranteed to be used at least once, freeing up slots in Special:UnusedImages. Of course we can work on how many images per page if 100 is too many. I already have all files logged into a text file on my computer to make this very easy to create. Does that sound like a good plan? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:50, 19 January 2016 (EST)
I'd have to run this by the rest of the Staff to see if this would be something worth putting our time and effort on. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:23, 19 January 2016 (EST)
Is there a thread I can follow? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:48, 20 January 2016 (EST)
No, sorry, this is being discussed privately. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:51, 20 January 2016 (EST)
Hearing the news about our archive suggestion being rejected has got me curious what the solution could ultimately be. Two things are coming to mind how the solution will take shape. The first idea is that MarioWiki will get a set-up similar to that of Wikimedia Commons. Another idea is that there will be a Wiki dedicated to just The 'Shroom, freeing up MarioWiki. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 22:44, 20 January 2016 (EST)
To be honest I think these two are way too drastic for something that is not actually a problem. If there is a much simpler solution that doesn't require a massive overhaul, we can work on that. I'll ask around to see if somehow a template ({{Not-unused}}) could make images bypass Special:UnusedFiles. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:53, 20 January 2016 (EST)
This could help, but you'd have to run that by Porplemontage (talk). --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 22:59, 20 January 2016 (EST)
The simplest way is still the archive page way with my text file of all 2,216 files ready to go (preferably a gallery setup), but that was rejected unless you can put the images in new pages for your own personal use. Simpler would be a way to search through Category:Shroom images for the ones that aren't being used and take only those files to put into an archive (less files essentially but unsure how many that is), but you don't know how to go about doing that, if anyone else knows, or it is even possible. Supposedly Megadardery (talk) is a self-proclaimed expert with MediaWiki. Maybe he can help with our dilemma. Also that MediaWiki help page you suggested could be another alternative if Porplemontage (talk) approves. The only down side I can potentially see is that all unused images have a category for them. Note that images in Special:UnusedFiles are not showing up Special:UncategorizedFiles. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:08, 20 January 2016 (EST)

This is apparently way more trouble than I thought it would have been. You can just ignore the 'Shroom images and proceed with the rest of the Unused Files, no need to overcomplicate things to free up less than 5% of the Unused Files list. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:15, 20 January 2016 (EST)

I honestly thought this problem would get solved with relative ease with pages to link them to force them out of Special:UnusedFiles. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:29, 20 January 2016 (EST)

A note from one of the core 'Shroom staff; we're not doing the Archive thing, and a few obviously not-unused 'Shroom images in the category should really not be a huge problem. There is no benefit to having a massive Archive, and it's just excessive work on us for no gain, so I'm afraid we won't be doing that. -Crocodile Dippy (talk) 23:17, 20 January 2016 (EST)

But an unknown number of them are showing up in Special:UnusedFiles (not the same as Category:URL-linked images). The ones I am seeing in the special page are not marked with {{not-unused}}. Marking them as such doesn't solve the original problem. I find it kind of annoying I am seeing Photoshopped versions of boxart for The 'Shroom as I go through. I keep mistaking these as duplicates of images used in the regular pages when they are clearly not when you click on the file link. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:29, 20 January 2016 (EST)
Well then that's your problem, isn't it? It's not that hard to determine what is and isn't the real deal amongst those images, bruh. -Crocodile Dippy (talk) 23:35, 20 January 2016 (EST)
Also, in all honesty, Wildgoosespeeder, it's the 'Shroom staff's right to do as they please with their images, and it's inappropriate for you to continue pushing at this point. No one is forcing you to even go through the unused images, so if their few Shroom-tagged files are that much of an annoyance to you, maybe you should stop and find another project to do instead, because fixating on non-issues like not-unused images is more of a hindrance than a help. - Walkazo 23:44, 20 January 2016 (EST)
Yeah, I should put this topic down for now because it isn't going anywhere at this point. I'll continue to put up with the issue unless other people have something to say or if the extreme were to happen and that were to be that too many 'Shroom images show up in the unused files list. The only people potentially concerned with it right now are me, Megadardery (talk), and Henry Tucayo Clay (talk). --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:57, 20 January 2016 (EST)

MLSS tutorial images.

So, earlier this year, User:Yoshi876 removed many screenshots from the Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga special moves : Splash Bros., Knockback Bros., Chopper Bros., Swing Bros., Bounce Bros., Fire Bros., Cyclone Bros., Thunder Bros.. Because it fell under the strategy part. Unfortunately, that means that a lot of images went unused, I didn't want to tag them all with delete, because I'm still not 100% sure that they are completely unneeded, so I decided to ask you if you have any opinions on that matter, otherwise, if you have time, please delete them.

oh boy, Sorry about that

I'll ask from input for the other admins, I think they are along the line of what is strategy and what isn't. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:26, 19 January 2016 (EST)
Ok thanks, and if it is possible, can you look back at the deleted revisions of File:CoasterWorld1.JPG, just to see what it was replaced with? (It probably had a delete template) Thanks--

There was no delete template on it, sorry. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:23, 19 January 2016 (EST)
The images were deemed as unnecessary, regardless of whether they're strategy or not. I'll proceed to delete them. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:41, 20 January 2016 (EST)

How do you get confirmed (to make a page and edit protected pages?)

I think it's 4 days and 10 edits, but I'm not sure. Cataclysm (talk) 08:24, 20 January 2016 (EST)

Not Unused

This seems like the best time to ask yet another question. I also feel bad that I keep bugging you about things. Anyways, I noticed you unmarked File:Shiver Snowfield Mirrored.png for deletion. I understand. What I have questions about is where the file is being linked from. I posed a question on Template talk:Not-unused. What are your thoughts about it? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:48, 20 January 2016 (EST)

Don't feel bad, I'm here to help. I admittedly don't know where it's linked from, but the user is in their right to keep it as it's following all policy. I'll chime in on that. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 15:51, 20 January 2016 (EST)

Protect Mario Kart (series) page

Can you protect Mario Kart (series), because IPs always add false information about a Mario Kart 9.--LudwigVon Sig.png(TALK) 09:55, 22 January 2016 (EST)

I blocked instead the IP since the vast majority of the bad edits came from it, thanks for the heads-up. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 10:28, 22 January 2016 (EST)

Protect Scuttlebug to Only Allow Autoconfirmed Users

Scuttlebug seems vulnerable to vandalism. Just ask Yoshi876 (talk); he seems to be dealing with it a lot lately. Is it time to change the edit rights to only allow autoconfirmed users? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 19:56, 23 January 2016 (EST)

I'll never get spammers. Whoever did that original edit certainly took their time, though. (Alex95 (talk) 00:32, 6 February 2016 (EST))
EDIT: I've noticed this is also the same person who spammed as PhazonCreeperFan987 and XXX_MLGSNIPER_XXX, etc. There's no way to block a user from a source computer or something, is there?
I blocked his IP as well so that should do it. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 13:25, 6 February 2016 (EST)

I noticed you deleted MarioWiki:Featured Articles/Unfeature/N/Wii. Wii has an unfeature proposal here. What to do? --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 15:49, 13 February 2016 (EST)

I moved the nomination to the first link, which is where it should go. N2 would be after it's archived. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 18:51, 13 February 2016 (EST)

RPG Enemy Infoboxes

A little question, in the Mario & Luigi RPG Enemy infoboxes for some reason it doesn't show the enemy's defense. I mean it's shown on the source but not on the actual page, why's that?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fawful's Minion (talk).

Could you link me to a specific page? It shows on the ones I've seen so far. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:10, 16 February 2016 (EST)
Never mind, I saw it. Parameters need to be updated to the new parameters in {{bisenemy}} and {{dtenemy}}, as there was a recent propsal that changed them. Some pages haven't been updated yet. For example, "defense" is now "def", "level" is "lvl", and "experience" is "exp".--TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 23:13, 16 February 2016 (EST)
