Grass Land is the first world of Super Mario Bros. 3. It has 6 levels, only one Hammer Bros., a fortress, and two Toad Houses. In level 3 and the fortress you can get two out of the three Warp Whistles in the game. Using both of them lets you take a short cut to World 8, Dark Land. Grass Land is the place where Larry Koopa, the youngest Koopaling is.
The king got transformed into a dog in the original NES version. However, in the Super Mario All-stars remake for the SNES he was turned into a cobrat.
Brief Level Info
- 1-1: Mario begins his Koopa-kickin', Goomba-stompin', Mushroom Kingdom quest. If able to get a Super Leaf, on the stretch with the Goombas, Mario can uncover a secret by running along, jumping at the end of the stretch, and rapidly pressing the A Button to get to a cloud-top cache! Also, if enough momentum is gathered, Mario can lead off the edge of the long cloud platform and fly to a high-up pipe, where coins making a 3 are found!
- 1-2: Goombas have infested the rolling green hills of the Mushroom Kingdom. Clear 'em out! In the area with a Paragoomba and Goombas pouring out of a high pipe, Raccoon Mario can earn 1ups by stomping one, super jumping off it, slowly ascending, and hitting them again and again! Also, a P-Switch under a Venus Fire Trap's lair turns Coins into blocks, giving Mario access to a the pipe overhead containing a cache of MORE coins! Plus, the many Note Blocks can contain secrets...
- 1-3: Boomerang Bros. and Koopa Troopas defend the secret location of the first Warp Whistle. But before that, Mario can gain access to Coin Heaven! On the big block formation in the very first part (after the Boomerang Bro.), hit the Koopa Troopa on the top to the left. It will begin to wildly rebound, destroying many of the blocks and eventually falling out. Mario must go to the block stack on the left, stand against it, and jump to reveal a hidden red Note Block that will allow him to Coin Heaven! In this mysterious place, Raccoon Mario can fly to expose quite a few more coins and a block with a 1up mushroom inside! To get to the Warp Whistle, Mario must crouch on the big white block awhile before the Exit for five seconds. He will then fall behind the scenery, granting access behind the exit and to the Whistle!
- 1-4: Gold Coins and 1-Ups abound on a challenging stage of leaps and bounds. If all Coins in the level are collected, a White Toad House will appear, which has a P-Wing inside!
- World 1 Fortress: A meatheaded Koopa boss named Boom Boom defends Grass Land's stony Fortress. The second Warp Whistle can be grabbed by going through the entire Fortress to a door with a Dry Bones nearby. If Raccoon Mario, race back and forth on the stretch of floor by the door, eventually lifting off and going up, up, and onto a platform way above the door! When Mario gets to the end of this platform, he should press Up on the D-Pad to enter into a secret door with the Warp Whistle!
- 1-5: Delve into a dark cavern and face all kinds of unfriendly cave-dwellers. Another entrance to Coin Heaven can be found by taking the upper route after the two Piranha Plants, then jumping against the left wall to expose another red Note Block!
- 1-6: Expect a wild ride on this stage's dangerously erratic platforms and lifts. Nothing too special in this level along with a 1-up, and on the big platforms, Raccoon Mario can run and fly to find a huge arch of coins, just for him!
- Larry's Airship: Board an airship that's bristling with cannons and dodge the way to Larry Koopa, Bowser's favorite Koopaling. His only attack is to use the Wand to shoot rings at Mario. Dodge them and stomp him thrice to win the wand back, and change the King of this world from a Cobrat into his jolly old self.
