However they're still smaller than Spear Guys, they've almost the same length as a Spear Guy. Also, they hold their spear higher, so their spear is lower in height. To make the spear even more lower in height, it shrunk, so the normal Spear Guy's spear was taller instead of the Dancing Spear Guy's. But they still miss the feather and shield, and are yellow.

A Dancing Spear Guy.

Dancing Spear Guys first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and are a variant of the Spear Guy (which made their first appearance in the same game). They dance to move, and Yoshi must evade their spears, which these Dancing Spear Guys hold. Because this Shy Guy moves itself wildly, it moves the spear wildly as well, making it tough for the dinosaur to jump over it. However, they are edible, so Yoshi can simply swallow them. They are smaller than normal Spear Guys, without counting the spear. They also lack the shield and the feather held by a Spear Guy. In addition to this, Spear Guys are red, while Dancing Spear Guys are yellow. The spear of the Dancing Spear Guy was taller than the spear of the normal Spear Guy.

Differences between Spear Guys and Dancing Spear Guys.

They reappear in Yoshi's Island DS. They now have a greener shade on their masks, (every other Shy Guy appearing in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island had their palette changed to blue) and they also move differently. They hop when moving, and after every hop they make a circle and then they jump in height, then they hop again to move. They also grow in size. However, they are still smaller than Spear Guys, and still have a slightly longer spear than a Spear Guy. They still lack the feather and shield of a Sear Guy, however.

The idea was simple but effective in other Mario games. Jungle Guys from Paper Mario and Chuck Guys from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga do the same, but instead of being harder to avoid, they made a call to others. They are not to be confused with another dancing maniac Shy Guy, the Limbo Guy, who made his appearance in Yoshi's Story.

Dancing Spear Guys made a surprise appearance in a Mario Party 4; however, they were holding torches.
