The Sprayer (alternatively lowercase),[1] also known as the spray gun[2] or insect repellant,[3] is Stanley's weapon of choice throughout his scarce appearances, as well as Mr. Game & Watch's primary weapon in the Super Smash Bros. series based on its original appearance in Green House.
History[edit]
Green House[edit]
In its first appearance, the spray gun can be sprayed an unlimited number of times. It is used to kill the inchworms and spiders that try to destroy Stanley's flowers before they do so.
Donkey Kong 3[edit]
In Donkey Kong 3, Stanley must use the Sprayer against Donkey Kong as well as the angry bees and other insects that will try to destroy his flowers. Once again, it can be sprayed an unlimited number of times. Its power can also be amplified by equipping the Super Sprayer, which changes the insecticide to a yellow color; however, this is only a temporary power-up.
Donkey Kong 3 (Game & Watch)[edit]
In the Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong 3, in the same fashion as in the arcade game, Donkey Kong stirs up nests of bees, so Stanley is required to use his sprayer to combat Donkey Kong, who now has one of his own. The spray works differently here, as shots trap the bees and cause them to fly towards the opponent. The sprayers have to constantly be refilled with insecticide by a dripping pipe nearby. While refilling the sprayer, the player is left defenseless.
Saturday Supercade[edit]
The Sprayer also appears in the Saturday Supercade episode "Greenhouse Gorilla," which is also the only episode in the show that Stanley appears in. Unlike in the games, there is one scene in the episode where the Sprayer discharges all of its bug spray at once and subsequently runs out afterwards.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the insect repellant belongs to Mr. Game & Watch, who uses it as his standard attack. The attack performed by it is called Greenhouse, and it deals 1–3% of damage.[4]
The Greenhouse attack returns in Super Smash Bros. Brawl in the series and continues to be used as a trademark attack. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mr. Game & Watch's appearance changes while he uses his standard attack.
Game & Watch Gallery 4[edit]
In the Modern version of the Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong 3 in Game & Watch Gallery 4, Mario uses the repellant to push fireballs and Boos towards Donkey Kong. It sprays bubbles and needs to be refilled with water.
