Luigi Circuit is the first track of the Mushroom Cup in Mario Kart Wii. It is a fairly simple track which features a large boosted turn approaching the finish line, which lacks any hazards and is fully enclosed. This track can also be seen at sunset during the credits. This track shares its music with Mario Circuit, and an arrangement of it is heard in the second half of the credits music.

Course layout

An eagle's eye view of Luigi Circuit from Mario Kart Wii.
An overhead view of the course.

The track starts out in front of a large crowd stand full of Toads, Hammer Bros., Shy Guys, Birdos, Goombas, Monty Moles, Boos and Mii, with a Luigi Cap on top, similar to that seen in the Mario Kart 64 version of the track. Several garage buildings, more spectating Miis and a giant statue of Luigi appear on the right of the Finish Line. A Cheep Cheep-shaped balloon can be seen flying overhead which takes off from the landing platform in the middle of the lake. Hills similar to those seen in New Super Mario Bros. can be seen in the background. If the player is racing as a Mii or during the staff credits, the head of the Luigi statue and Luigi's face on some of the Luigi Circuit signs will be replaced with heads of random Miis from the player's system, but in the staff credits, Luigi's head on the statue is changed to the Mii the player selects for their license, but this still happens even if a Mii does not participate.

The track starts with a turn to the right, followed by a short straight section and a gentle left turn followed by a U-turn to the right. This is followed by a longer straight with another gentle left turn, followed by the large right turn towards the finish line with many Dash Panels, leading into the last straight segment.

Shortcuts

  • A small ramp is located in the sand on the left hand side of the straight approaching the Dash Panel section, which requires a speed boosting item to use without losing speed. Two Item Boxes are located on this ramp during Grand Prix mode.
  • The last turn can also be cut off by using a speed boosting item and driving across the sand.

Staff ghosts

The regular staff ghost for Luigi Circuit has a time of 1:29.670, using Luigi in the Sprinter. The expert staff ghost is unlocked if the player gets a time of 1:26.394 or less, with a time of 1:19.419 using Luigi on the Mach Bike. The expert staff ghost for this course is the only one in the game that uses a slower vehicle than their respective regular staff ghost.

Official descriptions

  • Site
    • Flag of the United States of America since July 4, 1960. For North American (and sometimes South American) release dates. "A great all-around starter track. Drifting through the boost pads banked around the final turn is a rush."
    • Flag of the European Union (previously the European Economic Community). For European release dates. "Listen to the roar of the crowd! A stand full of Miis will cheer you on as you hurtle round Luigi Circuit, where the final corner could decide the outcome..."
  • Guide "Luigi has been busy creating an excellent "starter" track, and the long stretches allow you to master your drifts (karts) and wheelies (bikes) while jostling for position. Make sure you cut in on all the corners, learn the "racing line," and don't forget that there are more shortcuts than you think!"
