Template:Character-infobox Sumo Kong is a large gray Kong who appears as the penultimate boss in the game Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, where he is a member of the Evil Kings. His name, as well as his appearance, are derived from the Japanese fighting style and sport, sumo wrestling. Sumo Kong is the ruler of the Star Fruit Kingdom, the sixteenth kingdom Donkey Kong ventures through. The battle with Sumo Kong takes place in space on an asteroid field with Earth in the background. After defeating him, Donkey Kong can face the Ghastly King, the final boss of the game.

Sumo Kong appears once more at the end of game ceremony, along with the other Evil Kings to honor Donkey Kong's victory over the Ghastly King.

Trivia

  • Sumo Kong is the only one of the Evil Kings who has a quiff, rather than hair in a distinct style.
  • Sumo Kong's in-game files refer to him as "Akebono," referring to Akebono Tarō, a Japanese-American sumo wrestler turned professional wrestler who was popular at the time of the game's development.[1]
