The minigame starts with the four players standing on a circular, floating platform. Suddenly, five giant cheep cheeps arc through the air and punch holes in the edges of the platform, forming a store shape.

The four players are standing on a floating circular [[platform]], with [[Klepto]]s and [[Shy Guy]]s in swordfish-shaped ships circling it. Five [[Cheep Cheep]]s fly into the air and land on the edges, causing them to crumble away into a star shape.


The goal of the game is to avoid falling off the platform by dodging the opponents' punches and kicks, the falling [[Cheep Cheep]]s and moving from crumbling pieces of lands, as those fall shortly after they start shaking. The last standing player wins.

Cheep Cheeps randomly fall from the sky, often towards the edges of the current platform; any sections of the platform that the Cheep Cheeps land on crumble and fall shortly after, shrinking the playfield over time. Cheep Cheeps come in small blue variants that destroy one block of land and in [[Big Cheep Cheep|large red variants]] that remove several blocks of land on contact. Players hit by Cheep Cheeps are temporarily stunned and risk falling off as a result. The last player standing wins. If all players fall off the platform, the minigame ends in a draw.

The camera zooms in to give a frontal view of the winner, who performs their victory animation as two rainbows form in the background.


The third factor that can eliminate a player from this mini-game is the crumbling ground. If the ground begins shaking below the player, he or she must move out of there as quick as possible, as this shaking indicates the ground will fall down.

This mini-game sets in the sky. The player fight on a store-shaped piece of land, which is divided in several, connected blocks. These "blocks" are not visible on grass, though. A little below the ground is a [[Bubba|Klepto]] flying in squares, but really serves no purpose to the [[Link|mini-game. In the same fashion, there's]] a [[Fly Guy|Shy Guy]] riding some kind of balloon-like pink machine. A lot lower, the player can see another store-shaped floating island similar to the one he or she is fighting on, except this one has more grass.

Even though it's called, "Fish Upon a Star," the platform is shaped like a store, so it may as well have benn called "Fish Upon a Store."

Fish Upon a Star is a 4-Player minigame found in Mario Party 5. The name is a pun on the saying "wish upon a star."
