Smash Cards were a series of e-cards created in Adobe Flash made to promote the release of Super Smash Bros. A total of seven were made, three each involving a different fighter of the Super Mario franchise: Mario, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi, respectively.

Usage[edit]

Each Smash Card opens with a notification that the viewer has received a Smash Card, followed by one of seven fighters giving an identical disclaimer to promote the official Super Smash Bros. website.[1] Each Smash Card has a short, comical animation focused on a particular fighter.

The Link and Fox Smash Cards have no existing archives, so their contents are unknown. All plotlines have at least one character from the Super Mario franchise.

SmashCardsMario.png Mario Mario starts in a boxing outfit, acting like he is prepared to fight a character. His shadow then morphs into Donkey Kong, who punches him offscreen, and a determined Mario attempts to fight Donkey Kong before the latter is revealed to not be present. Yoshi makes a "cuckoo" gesture regarding Mario's behavior as Yoshi and Kirby show up. A message appears onscreen, stating that the fighters are training and asks if the player is doing the same.[2] [1]
SmashCardsDK.png Donkey Kong Donkey Kong is annoyed by Link playing his ocarina while standing on a hill, so he knocks Link off of the hill and stomps on the ocarina. A message appears onscreen to give Donkey Kong a title based on his bad behavior.[3] [2]
SmashCardsYoshi.png Yoshi Yoshi is revealed to have shook the buildings in the first scene before growing inexplicably huge, scaring away Mario, Pikachu, and Kirby. Yoshi sticks his tongue out towards the screen before the event is revealed to be him dreaming. A message describing the game's contents is displayed.[4] [3]
SmashCardsKirby.png Kirby The animation begins with a suggestion that it is unsafe to return to the forest,[5] since Kirby is seen walking through the forest after the text disappears. Donkey Kong appears, only to be swallowed, and Kirby and gives a thumbs-up while facing the screen. A message appearing to parody a movie title is shown.[6] [4]
SmashCardsPikachu.png Pikachu The animation begins with Pikachu approaching and waving to the four green Yoshies appearing in the opening scene. Each Yoshi's facial expression is shown before they proceed to attack Pikachu, resulting in him stumbling around before collapsing. The animation concludes with a message stating that cute and cuddly are not the same.[7] [5]
