== Secondary Teams == | |||
Super-Yoshi recently undid an edit because it was a "secondary team." Not having played the game, I'm not sure exactly how that works, but am I to assume that it's the same as the original, and that each captain can have either one or two team names, selected randomly before each exposition match? If that's the case, and such names are official, they should be in the article somewhere. 16:59, 18 October 2008 (EDT)

==Red Toad = Toad== | |||
Well I thought I'd just bring this up as I believe that the red toad is infact Toad. Like how yoshi is sometimes called green yoshi in other spin off titles, he is just named red toad to differentiate from the other toads. It also strongly resembles him as he has a good relationship with Toadette, his bio from superstar baseball notes him strongly like Toad, his importance in the intro and overall scenes(why would they make a random toad so important in the cutscenes unless he was an important toad?), and also his chemistry from superstar baseball has him with good terms with peach, toadette and bad with Wario possibly noting Wario's woods. he's also important in the opening of superstar baseball as well. The reason why he has a red jacket was so he symbolizes the red colour more instead of showing blue as Blue Toad is already there. User:Pichufan93

== Alternate Team Players Artwork ==
Well, I was reading the Alternate Team Players section and I noticed that it looks quite empty with no artwork, so I decided to make some myself which I think I made in a good quality, and I know it's not official but I think it'll help to make the article look a bit better, and it helps with a visual concept of the characters, so if anyone has opinions, supports or opposes, please say so, I don't want to upload them and then knowing that those got deleted by any reason. Castle Toad

::::Hm, fine then, can you guys explain me how we have this if it's not official artwork? Just like what I try to tell both of you, even if it's not official, it helps for people to have a physical image of the characters. Can you answer my above comment, then? It's been here for 5 months.
:Assistant captain? What kind of term is that in that article? The term for that is simply "captain". I'm pretty sure this term is referring to story mode, where you can't face the "assistant" captain without facing the "leader" captain. It's basically saying that they are not the leader of the team for Story Mode, unlike the Exhibition mode where they can be the leader.
| |||
Look at the Bowser Monsters page. It says that next to Bowser Jr.

: Thing is, those sections are necessary; plus, I don't see why they are actually bad. ==Characters section==
I have a question. May we take screenshots of the characters in the character selection screen for the table instead of resorting to gameart? I have a Dolphin emulator right now and I am able to take high quality screenshots. I was just thinking about this earlier because we can provide images for the colored team players as well. If you haven't noticed, I've upload high quality screenshots for Mario Superstar Baseball for the tables and it looks splendid. If you disagree, then that's ok. I was just thinking of a way to add some images to the colored team players tables. And if you do agree to this, unfortunately, I lack a completed save for the file so I may not have the unlockable characters yet.
: If it's possible, yeah; but the roadblocks are these -- if you're referring to the Team Players portion -- the Main Team Players chart is fine. However, if you're targeting the Alternate Team Players portion, where in the game would you take screenshots of the characters? Challenge Mode roster itself, or when you get word about those alternate Team Players joining the team? --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Fan! User Page | Talk Page 00:05, 21 September 2011 (EDT)
::Well, in the character select screen for minigames such as Toy Field or say Bob-omb Derby, a character does an animation when you choose him. It's pretty similar to that of Superstar Baseball except you have to choose him in order for him to appear. M&SG already took a screenshot of what it would look like, except the version I will take is not full-screen and it will be cropped smaller.
| |||
I just personally thought it would be nice to fill out the image-less sections with these, since they are the next best option considering the work I have done on Mario Superstar Baseball article.

== Reasons Unreleased in Europe and Australia? ==
For what main reason was this game not released in Europe and Australia? We know that Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars originally was not released in those two countries since that game was under construction with Super Mario 64 and the Nintendo 64 console simultaneously but then made its way to those two countries for the first time officially on Virtual Console. Perhaps the main reason Mario Super Sluggers did not make its way to Europe and Australia would be primarily that it was under construction at the same time as Mario Kart Wii. --PrincessDaisyFanatic3883 18:20, 28 February 2012 (EST)

== Proposal: In character articles, in their appearances by date chart, stop pointing out unlockable (challenge mode) in the description column. ==
Settled TPP | |||
failed | |||
Okay, so I believe that this section in the tables is not noteworthy. Seeing as out of 41 characters in the game, only two character are starting characters in the mode (Mario and Luigi), that description is not noteworthy. 39 out of 41 characters are unlockable in that mode so that sure is a huge proportion. My suggestion is to stop listing that detail due to it not being noteworthy. Non-noteworthy things that are not noteworthy in this same way in the trivia sections of articles get removed so why do we have this?

First, where is it noted? (seems I'm not good at finding stuff) Also, this is a wiki. If you feel it's better this way, why not just changing it? I don't think there is major disagreement, so this should be closed by Rule 15.
:Right, if all unlockable characters are unlocked in Challenge Mode, there is no need for that, so just do it. I don't see anyone disagreeing with this.
:The information in question is listed in the individual character pages. I assume since the complain is specifically about information on the lists regarding Mario Super Sluggers, the TTP was put here. As this involves a large handful of character articles and not specifically this one, I'd have made this a normal proposal. That said, I'd still like to see a few specific examples, as most of them seem to say "playable character" and little else on the appearance by date chart (for those characters that have a chart). -- Ghost Jam 18:05, 16 November 2014 (EST)
::So what happened was me not checking myself enough. I have compiled a list of several different characters listing on what it says in that category. The list:
So these pages seem to have that extra detail on them:
Peach#List_of_appearances_by_date
Daisy#List_of_appearances_by_date
Birdo#List_of_appearances_by_date
But these pages don't: | |||
Wario#List_of_appearances_by_date
Waluigi#Game_appearances
Diddy_Kong#Game_Appearances
Dixie_Kong#List_of_Game_Appearances
Bowser_Jr.#List_of_appearances_by_date
Toadette#List_of_appearances_by_date
Baby_Mario#Game_appearances
Baby_Luigi#Game_appearances
The unfortunate part of this is that I notice that potential unwanted piece of information on the Daisy article and then double checked myself to see if it was common throughout the entire wiki on the Peach article and both pages ended up being in the minority group among whether or not this detail was present making me thing it was on far more articles than it actually was. On the articles I checked just now, the presence of the detail was 3 yes-8 no. Also as a mark for more potential things that need improvement, the Bowser page has an incomplete table while many others not on this list were excluded because there was no table like that on that specific article.
18:37, 16 November 2014 (EST)
:::That's a good reason, but is this proposal really necessary? This is a wiki: a place where anyone can edit information. Unless it's about something nobody cares about, there are always people that can fix the information. That doesn't mean you can call Peach a swear word or say how bad Bowser's plans are on the wiki, but it means that you can fix an encyclopedia without filling the books with pen marks and sticky notes. Don't worry if you fix the tables without a proposal; there's always somebody who can fix it right up. Proposals are mostly for merging pages, creating pages, editing the Mario Wiki guidelines, and other debatable stuff like that. Madz the Penguin (talk) 21:23, 17 November 2014 (EST)
::::Generally speaking, any topic that would effect a handful of pages, involve longstanding traditions, spark new discussions on touchy topics or otherwise bring about a more than slightly editorial change are all candidates for proposals. There is a lot of wiggle room built into the process so we can shut down proposals on banned topics or to just give an automatic administrative green light, but by and large we prefer that a topic be brought to at least an administrator if it has potentially long reaching consequences.
::::Further, some of your assertions are off, but they aren't unreasonable assumptions. Mergers normally only need proposals if they are going to cause problems, creating articles do not need proposals (and are normally closed via Rule 15, but exceptions do exist) and Wiki policy/guideline proposals are normally closed on sight and move to administrative discussion.
::::For the proposal specifically, it started out looking like a standard "stuff needs to be gone" editorial issue. Removals that aren't part of the normal curating process are routinely brought to the community before steps are taken for several reasons. As it turns out, it looks like it was data that was either intended to be added to the lot or was for some reason removed from the lot, with a couple stragglers that missed the purge. It's also opened us up to the greater issue that many of our character page charts need to be improved. -- Ghost Jam 06:07, 22 November 2014 (EST)
My opinion: It's better if we clarify who's default in every mode except Challenge. Think Challenge Mode like the Subspace Emissary, both can unlock all characters and not every otherwise-default character is available. Otherwise, listing these characters as "unlockable" is confusing, and we don't want that. But either way, this doesn't really call for any major changes, especially considering that few pages have the silly detail anyway. 23:17, 17 November 2014 (EST)
:So what do you think we should do with this proposal? Most of us agreed that it was unnecessary, so should we end it before the deadline? Madz the Penguin (talk) 00:34, 20 November 2014 (EST)
::Maybe support it or something. 00:47, 20 November 2014 (EST)
:As the proposal seems like it is going to fail, I'm thinking I might just add more detail to the tags to make them more clear instead when it passes it's deadline. 07:16, 27 November 2014 (EST)
== YP Quiz Questions == | |||
Where inside or outside of the game do I find the answer for the "point difference in a mercy game in baseball"? By "inside/outside of the game", I mean like EG, "how many gondolas are on the Ferris wheel?" I can solve that by going to the ferris wheel in Yoshi Park and looking at it. The answer is six. But for "how many tentacles does Blooper have?", the answer is ten. Because in general, despite seeing eight tentacles on Blooper, it's referring to squids in general biology. Squids have 10 tentacles in real life so the answer is ten. So where inside or outside of the game can I find the answer for the number of points scored when the mercy rule is activated/in use? Also, this question won't let me pass: "if you have a koopa, paratroopa, paragoomba, and boo, how many wings do you have?". I keep punching in 8 as 4 characters X 2 wings = 8 wings total. Help me please on this as well.--50.67.188.79 19:46, 21 July 2016 (EDT)
:First of all, it's four wings, as only two of the mentioned characters have wings. Second, I believe the mercy point difference is 10? *looks it up* Yeah, that sounds right. 20:31, 21 July 2016 (EDT)

I think this needs a "References to other games" section. Baby Peach appears as a playable character, and, that's a reference to Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Should we add that section? 15:45, 24 September 2017 (EDT)

Hi, all. I mostly play Mario Super Sluggers with the Wii Remote held upright, not sideways or with the Nunchuk.
I saw that to recruit Paragoomba, that his scout mission is to "Get an out with a ball dash!" However, I just played the game in Challenge Mode tonight, and for me, Paragoomba's scout mission was to "Steal a home run with a buddy jump!" This is not the only scout mission that has differed for me; should I add it in as an additional scout mission that could be provided?

Hey no se para que ponen eso de [citation needed] en los personajes:
Noki [citation needed] Koopa Troopa [citation needed] Goomba [citation needed] Baby Mario [citation needed] Baby Luigi [citation needed] Diddy Kong [citation needed] Dixie Kong [citation needed] Birdo [citation needed] Boo [citation needed] Toadette [citation needed] Petey Piranha [citation needed]
y King Boo [citation needed]

Box art[edit]
What is on the box art doesn't have to be in the actual game. Mario Party 8's boxart had Fly Guys, but they didn't play any role in the game itself. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 20:46, 17 May 2008 (EDT)
So they put Baby DK, Baby Peach, and Blooper on the cover just for the heck of it?
MDupont 23:38, 17 May 2008 (EDT)
- These characters happen to be on the cover because it was cut to fit Mario at the center. You can see to the far left people in seating box are barely cut out. ForeverDaisy09
We can't base it on the boxart. For one, Blooper might be a referee (or whatever), like Lakitu. It's very likely Baby Peach, but we can't be certain. And that Baby DK may be Diddy Kong. My Bloody Valentine The image is too blurry to be certain.
Diddy Kong on the left side of Mario and I'm certain that is Baby DK. Blooper probably not the ref because, one, of I don't think baseball you need two ref, two, he can't talk. -Pikatwo
Lakitu can't talk, but was he a ref in Super Mario Superstar Baseball? Yes. Palkia47

All stadiums... Daisy cruiser???[edit]

What's got me confused is...here you can see nine stadiums.... but the thing is this doesn't match up with our list. |Here I see:
- Mario Stadium 1
- Daisy Stadium 2
- Peach Stadium 3
- Spooky? Stadium 4
- Jr. Lego? Stadium 5
- Toy Field 6
- DK Stadium 7
- Wario Stadium 8
- Yoshi Stadium 9

- Mario Stadium
- Peach Garden
- Yoshi Park
- Wario Fare
- Shy Guy Dome Where is this on the map?
- Ice Palace Where is this on the map?
- Chomp Desert[2] Where is this on the map?
- DK Jungle[1]
That's beacuse the list is wrong, and someone who is able to change the list needs to into this list:
- Mario Stadium (confirmed)
- Daisy Cruiser (obvious)
- Peach Rink (confirmed by jeux-france)
- Luigi's Mansion (obvious)
- Bowser Jr. Castle (conjectural)
- Toy Field
- DK Jungle (confirmed by jeux-france)
- Wario Street (conjectural, confirmed)

Rosalina In her article, Rosalina is mentioned to be playable. Please, if she is not really going to be playable, fix her article. If she is playable, add her name to the list, please. Luma(possibly...just speculation) In Mario Kart Wii, a Luma appears as a special accessory of Rosalina's. This has led me to believe thatLuma may make an appearence. Character Confusion[edit]
The picture shows us 40 characters yet the list has 44 characters. II don't see Fly Guy or Dry Bowser anywhere, so their appearance is questionable. Also, Mario isn't seen on the character select screen, unless they get removed from it if they are selected as a captain.MDupont 11:15, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
Just noticed that Rosalina is missing from the picture too. MDupont 11:21, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
According to the New game pipe project, speculations are alowed. These caracters are speculations, but will most likely apear. Since Baby Daisy is playble, Rosalina and Dry Bowser are most likely also playble. Fly Guy appeard playble in more Mario games, why not this one. rend (talk) (edits)
The only logical conclusions I can think of is that 1.) More boxes are added when more characters are unlocked. 2.) Dry Bowser is an alternate color for Bowser like Fire Bro. and Boomerang Bro. are for Hammer Bro, and may be the same for Fly Guy with Shy Guy. 3.) They aren't in the game at all and perhaps Funky Kong is just in their for kicks. MDupont 12:44, 6 June 2008 (EDT)
We can't say anything now. On the official site of the game, the characters page can't be enterd jet. rend (talk) (edits)

I think it was a user's fan-made character. But when I typed it, all that came up with was that User:Piplupaxel had the word "axel" in his/her name. And what about Funky KOng? User: Sonic&Mario Kid
Woah.....lotta characters. Is anyone sure that that pictures legit? And also, on a side-note, Axel is a very popular character from Kingdom Hearts.... seriously, has no one heard of him? - Ultimatetoad
I know Axel. He was actually very easy to beat in KH: CoM... -Oteno 08:20, 7 June 2008 (EDT)

Wiggler....[edit]
Don't you find it odd that a HUGE caterpiller (bigger than bowser) would play in the game? It would make more sense that the Wiggler we saw in the image is actually a Flutter, ( so, it will float like Paratroopa). -Oteno 13:04, 7 June 2008 (EDT)

Unlockable Characters Revealed[edit]

Go here and check it out at WiiFolder.
Unlockable characters I see:
There's a possibility of 44 or 42 characters, but I think this:
- The Arrow Button goes to the next screen (select your course, maybe?)
- Change your color
- ????
- Done
Don't get mad at me because my guesses are wrong.
- IGN has its own list, which is sporting a character called "Mare". I sense a typo on their side there. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 16:38, 13 June 2008 (EDT)

Lakitu?[edit]

- Lakitu is also on IGN's list I linked above. Add with a reference to the site. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 16:58, 13 June 2008 (EDT)
- Are you sure this is confirmation? I mean, the pic we saw of the character select screen dipicted no space for Lakitu. Also, wasn't there a pic or video (possibly a trailer) that showed Lakitu floating behind Donkey Kong? I just wonder if Famitsu got it wrong. Has anyone even translated the text below to see what it says? Futhermore, IGN's Mare may be a typo, but of what? I can draw a few conclusions about Lakitu and the character select screen image. Either A.) It's a beta screenshot and not the whole roster was about to fit on the screen or B.) The character squares get smaller once more than 40 players are playable similar to how it works in Mario Kart Wii. MDupont 19:42, 13 June 2008 (EDT)
Yes, but IGN was basing their roster on what they saw in Famitsu. Not sure if they have translators there, but it's still likely that Famitsu is wrong and Lakitu is just "featured" in the game. MDupont 19:55, 13 June 2008 (EDT)
- I don't see the other way less likely. We should stick to press information until it is prooven wrong. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 20:11, 13 June 2008 (EDT)
- Now why was Lakitu removed? I thought he was "confirmed"? MDupont 13:44, 14 June 2008 (EDT)
- He is a umpire, the opening sequence on the Japanese website shows him as a umpire, just because he has art in Famitsu doesn't mean he is playable, it just means he is in the game. -Pikatwo
- This is nonsence, everyone. Lakitu is non-playable. There are only 40 characters. In almost every video, Lakitu is shown behind everything. He's an umpire. I'm not deleting him off the characters section, nor am I sure that my statement is true, otherwise I would delete alot of things. -- itameaMarioFan
Speculation Characters? WTF?[edit]
What the heck is this? When was it ever confirmed that there are infact 44 characters? Can someone please cite these sources like the 44 character thing. Sure, the speculation list is based off characters who have previously appeared in Mario games (except Lanky) but still. It came out of nowhere and I will delete it if need be. I know speculation is allowed, but I'd like to know where it says 44 characters. MDupont 17:48, 17 June 2008 (EDT)
I don't like this speculation rule. People could fill up with characters who "could" make it in. I say we should only post things that are confirmed. Please delete that. BTW, it NEVER siad 44 characters. -Oteno 18:29, 17 June 2008 (EDT)
Japanese Menus (MUST SEE) + Release Dates[edit]
I've been browsing the web and I've been looking at release dates for Sluggers. Here are some:
- 1UP - December 15, 2008
- Wikipedia - August 2, 2008
- IGN - August 25, 2008
BIG NEWS!
I've found some Japanese menu screens of Sluggers. Here are some:
- Captain Selection
- VS. Screen
- All Characters MUST SEE
- Select Mode
- Wii Menu
- Switch Positions
- File Select
Most of these are from my website.

Mega Mushroom is NOT an item![edit]
From the article: Mega Mushroom - Turn giant and stomp a player by the home base.
On the Japanese site, you see Mario getting big and crushing Bowser Jr. near the base by pressing "B" faster than Bowser Jr.. In a new gameplay video on YouTube, the same happens, but with Dixie Kong and Peach. Dixie was runnning to the base, where Peach was. This time, they had to press "2", Dixie pressed "2" the fastest, but did NOT get big, instead, she tackled Peach with her ponytail. What I'm saying is that Mario didn't get big because of a Mega Mushroom, but because of his special attack. The one who presses the random button the fastest, uses his/her special move, Mario's being getting big, and Dixie's being her ponytail attack. Freekhenstra

Team Names[edit]
What should we do about Bowser Jr.'s, and Birdo's team names? They're referred to as "Koopa Rookies" and "Catherine Lips" in the gameplay vids. Should we keep them as that for now, or change them to the inevitable (yet still unconfirmed) "Bowser Jr. Rookies" and "Birdo Lips"? -Moonshine
It makes sense to keep them as the Japanese names now, and change them once it is confirmed. MarioKun
Why is Bowser's team name "Bowser Monsters"? Shouldn't it be "Koopa Monsters", since Koopa is his Japanese name (Bowser Jr.'s Japanese team is also "Koopa Jr. Rookies"). Or did they start to use the name "Bowser" in Japanese as well? --Grandy02 13:17, 8 July 2008 (EDT)

Character Types?[edit]
So i take that the type system (Balance, Technique, Speed, Power) from Mario Superstar Baseball was dropped? If it wasn't then could the characters be put into those cateogories, maybe? --Toadster749 19:12, 26 June 2008 (EDT)
- I doubt it, besides, I think it's best for the U.S. (English) version to get released so that we can find out the real truth in terms of character types. I'm very sure there are Balance, Technique and Power types; but it's best to wait for confirmation on this. --M. C. - "Mario Gals" Enthusiast! 10:51, 27 June 2008 (EDT)

ART!!!![edit]
i found lots-a art of the players.....
Mrsdaisyluigi 15:31, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
Most of them are duplicate images, which means two or more images are the exact same thing. Plus, isn't most of this artwork older? For instance, none of these have nothing Baseball-related. TWG
I think all of them are older except the Baby DK one.--YOSHIANDLINK1 16:51, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- Yep, most of these images are "recicled", which means that producers utilize the same image in different games. I'll delete the duplicate ones, and we'll keep with the new as King Boo, baby Peach, baby Daisy, baby DK and the baby bros, because they were wanted...
- I think it's also worth noting that the main source is from the recent update at the official Japan game site for Mario Super Sluggers. But yeah, I'm with Coincollector in saying that it's safe to concludee that the arts for King Boo, Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby DK, Baby Mario & Baby Luigi were indeed to be mainly targeted for Mario Super Sluggers. Also the hi-res versions of those materials and the team captain arts have STILL yet to surface. *sighs* I wonder what's taking Nintendo so long to relay us the goods... MeritC
Wait! The Toad image should be kept because his jacket is red and not blue!
ooops sorry. next time i'll check.
Mrsdaisyluigi 10:45, 2 July 2008 (EDT)
Aren't all of the older artworks with their karts? You don't delete an older artwork if there is a background difference, regardless if it is the same pose. You only do that if there's no difference. MarioKun
Are these the same artworks from Mario Kart Wii? They look the same. Also, you should've did a gallery instead of using gigantic images. Happy Halloween!

The New "Playable Characters" Layout[edit]
I like it a lot!
But a lot of the pictures are empty...
I have a photo-editing program and i could make the color changes by using the official art. Would it be okay to do that and upload it, rather that having all those blank spots there?
--Toadster749 20:49, 14 July 2008 (EDT)
Thanks, I'm glad people like the new layout. I based it off of the Brawl characters layout. A lot of them are indeed empty, but I think the Japanese site will continue to update the characters section. Maybe we won't get artwork for every color, but hopefully every character will get artworks of some kind. I thought about recoloring art as well, but as Grandy02 said, it's not allowed for a reason. FD09
That Monty Mole picture is the REAL Mario Super Sluggers Monty Mole picture so I added it back.
I'm not so sure about the Paragoomba art though.....
In the case of the Monty art it's understood as I'm positive it's never been used before, but it is pretty crummy quality. Hopefully that will be one we get in a site character update.FD09
Yeah.
I can't find that image in better quality.
Images.[edit]
As you can see, there is images on this magazine scan that are of some of the playable characters.
So, can we add those images on the playable characters layout???

But, he have images for Dry Bones in MP8, Hammer Bro. in MP8, Koopa in NSMB, Magikoopa in SMG, Paragoomba, and Boo from MP8.

Red Toad = Toad[edit]

Can you answer my above comment, then? It's been here for 5 months.
- Assistant captain? What kind of term is that in that article? The term for that is simply "captain". I'm pretty sure this term is referring to story mode, where you can't face the "assistant" captain without facing the "leader" captain. It's basically saying that they are not the leader of the team for Story Mode, unlike the Exhibition mode where they can be the leader.
Look at the Bowser Monsters page. It says that next to Bowser Jr.

Characters section[edit]
Ray Trace(T|C)
- If it's possible, yeah; but the roadblocks are these -- if you're referring to the Team Players portion -- the Main Team Players chart is fine.
- Well, in the character select screen for minigames such as Toy Field or say Bob-omb Derby, a character does an animation when you choose him. It's pretty similar to that of Superstar Baseball except you have to choose him in order for him to appear. M&SG already took a screenshot of what it would look like, except the version I will take is not full-screen and it will be cropped smaller.
I just personally thought it would be nice to fill out the image-less sections with these, since they are the next best option considering the work I have done on Mario Superstar Baseball article.
Whare are they?[edit]
I notesd that thre's no beta elements or gliches section. Why are they not thare? --rwars 18:14, 11 October 2011 (EDT)
- Not every game has enough info on beta elements to have a section, and there likely is not notable glitches. 64Fan (Discussion)
Reasons Unreleased in Europe and Australia?[edit]
For what main reason was this game not released in Europe and Australia? We know that Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars originally was not released in those two countries since that game was under construction with Super Mario 64 and the Nintendo 64 console simultaneously but then made its way to those two countries for the first time officially on Virtual Console. Perhaps the main reason Mario Super Sluggers did not make its way to Europe and Australia would be primarily that it was under construction at the same time as Mario Kart Wii. --PrincessDaisyFanatic3883 18:20, 28 February 2012 (EST)

Proposal: In character articles, in their appearances by date chart, stop pointing out unlockable (challenge mode) in the description column.[edit]
This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal. |
keep "unlockable" in description column 1-6
Okay, so I believe that this section in the tables is not noteworthy. Seeing as out of 41 characters in the game, only two character are starting characters in the mode (Mario and Luigi), that description is not noteworthy. 39 out of 41 characters are unlockable in that mode so that sure is a huge proportion. My suggestion is to stop listing that detail due to it not being noteworthy. Non-noteworthy things that are not noteworthy in this same way in the trivia sections of articles get removed so why do we have this?

Support[edit]
- 3D Player 2004 (talk) per proposal
Oppose[edit]
- Ghost Jam (talk) - More, accurate information is better than less, per standard Wiki editing practices.
- Walkazo (talk) - Per Ghost Jam. Plus, acting as if there needs to be a cutoff number of default players before the rest can be called "unlockable" is a judgment call without any canon basis whatsoever, and thus, has no place on the wiki.
- Boo4761 (talk) Per all, WHERE are we supposed to put the unlocking crieta?
- Glitchy Bowser Jr. (talk) Per all.
- Madz the Penguin (talk) Per all, thanks for making that clear. We say Birdley is a combination of the words bird and Toadley because even if it's very obvious, it's useful information. Same with saying who's unlockable and who isn't. Ratios don't matter; if it's useful, it's going in. We don't assume our reader's IQ here.
- Lumastar (talk) Per all.
Comments[edit]
First, where is it noted? (seems I'm not good at finding stuff) Also, this is a wiki. If you feel it's better this way, why not just changing it? I don't think there is major disagreement, so this should be closed by Rule 15. TSUNAMI
- Right, if all unlockable characters are unlocked in Challenge Mode, there is no need for that, so just do it. I don't see anyone disagreeing with this. BabyLuigi64
- The information in question is listed in the individual character pages.
- So what happened was me not checking myself enough. I have compiled a list of several different characters listing on what it says in that category. The list:
So these pages seem to have that extra detail on them:
Peach#List_of_appearances_by_date
Daisy#List_of_appearances_by_date
Birdo#List_of_appearances_by_date
But these pages don't:
Wario#List_of_appearances_by_date
Dixie_Kong#List_of_Game_Appearances
Bowser_Jr.#List_of_appearances_by_date
Toadette#List_of_appearances_by_date
The unfortunate part of this is that I notice that potential unwanted piece of information on the Daisy article and then double checked myself to see if it was common throughout the entire wiki on the Peach article and both pages ended up being in the minority group among whether or not this detail was present making me thing it was on far more articles than it actually was. On the articles I checked just now, the presence of the detail was 3 yes-8 no. Also as a mark for more potential things that need improvement, the Bowser page has an incomplete table while many others not on this list were excluded because there was no table like that on that specific article.

- That's a good reason, but is this proposal really necessary?
- Generally speaking, any topic that would effect a handful of pages, involve longstanding traditions, spark new discussions on touchy topics or otherwise bring about a more than slightly editorial change are all candidates for proposals. There is a lot of wiggle room built into the process so we can shut down proposals on banned topics or to just give an automatic administrative green light, but by and large we prefer that a topic be brought to at least an administrator if it has potentially long reaching consequences.

- Further, some of your assertions are off, but they aren't unreasonable assumptions. Mergers normally only need proposals if they are going to cause problems, creating articles do not need proposals (and are normally closed via Rule 15, but exceptions do exist) and Wiki policy/guideline proposals are normally closed on sight and move to administrative discussion.
- For the proposal specifically, it started out looking like a standard "stuff needs to be gone" editorial issue.
Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 23:17, 17 November 2014 (EST)
- So what do you think we should do with this proposal? Most of us agreed that it was unnecessary, so should we end it before the deadline? Madz the Penguin (talk) 00:34, 20 November 2014 (EST)
- As the proposal seems like it is going to fail, I'm thinking I might just add more detail to the tags to make them more clear instead when it passes it's deadline. 3D Player 2010 07:16, 27 November 2014 (EST)
YP Quiz Questions[edit]
- First of all, it's four wings, as only two of the mentioned characters have wings. Second, I believe the mercy point difference is 10? *looks it up* Yeah, that sounds right. 20:31, 21 July 2016 (EDT)
References to other games[edit]
I think this needs a "References to other games" section. Baby Peach appears as a playable character, and, that's a reference to Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Should we add that section? LED42™ (talk – edits) 15:45, 24 September 2017 (EDT)
- That in and of itself is not a reference. Otherwise, Mario would be a reference to Donkey Kong. 15:46, 24 September 2017 (EDT)
Controls[edit]
...good gravy, there is a lot of stuff here. Are there articles and such about how to steal bases or pitching and whatnot? Not sure if we have any of those, so... Magolor04726 (talk) 13:32, March 1, 2020 (EST)Magolor04726
- Maybe I wasn't clear on what I was asking... is there a sections on how to steal bases, throw to first/second/third from the pitchers mound and other plays? I looked at gameplay but didn't see anything about how to. It stated that it was possible, but there was no elaboration. Of course, I could just be looking in the wrong area... -Mags (talk) 19:30, June 28, 2020 (EDT)
Challenge Mode[edit]
Since I brought up the Controls, what about the Challenge Mode? I don't think we have an article of any sort on that. -Mags (talk) 18:38, July 4, 2020 (EDT)
Different scout missions?[edit]
Thanks, all. Mari0fan100 (talk) 01:24, January 7, 2024 (EST)
- Sure. When I put those on there, I was using a YouTube longplay and corroborating with other videos to make sure it wasn't fully randomized, I guess there is still some variation. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:37, January 7, 2024 (EST)
- After looking at some YouTube videos, it seems that the scout missions differ between players who play the game with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk and players who just play with the Wii Remote upright. For example, instead of having to "lay down a squeeze bunt", I had to "bunt to advance the runner". Mari0fan100 (talk) 02:37, January 7, 2024 (EST)
Rosalina and Dry Bowser[edit]
How exactly is the fact that these two aren't in the game whereas they were in Mario Kart Wii notable? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:35, November 10, 2024 (EST)
