Archery Plus is a Plus Event that appears in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The objective of the event is to score as many points as possible by shooting the targets. The playable characters in this event are Mario, Wario, Birdo, Sonic, Silver, Sticks and Mii, with Sticks being unlocked by beating her in the event on the third day of Sonic's story in the Road to Rio mode.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player shoots three ends, each consisting of three arrows. The shots take place at roughly 20m, and the range features Brick Blocks and platforms similar to those that appear in Super Mario 3D Land. On each end, there is a different number and pattern of Boos and targets. For the first end, there are two overlapping circles of Boos, with the front circle containing only one-point targets and the second containing three single-point targets and three triple point ones. The second end has a circle of single-point targets at the front, and two moving pairs of three point targets and another moving pair consisting of a ten point target and a three point target at the back. The final end has a circle of three point targets, two circles of single and three point targets and a triangle of ten point targets. The single point targets are green and have one small star on them, the triple point targets are orange with three stars on them, and the ten point targets are rainbow-colored with one large star on them, but are much smaller than the other two targets. To take each shot, the player must press an hold R Button or A Button to draw their bow, which then gives them a more zoomed in view of the targets and starts a ten second countdown. The player can then move the system around to aim, and to shoot the arrow, the player must release R Button or A Button before the ten seconds are up. If the player does not release in time, they will not be able to shoot and will not score any points. The player scores as many points as the targets that they hit indicate, plus a five point bonus for a combo of two and an eight point bonus for a combo of three. After each end, the player is given their score for the end and any previous ends, their total score, and their current placement in the event.

Advice[edit]

  • You can draw your bow with the A Button as well as the R Button.
  • Hit lots of targets for major points! Aim for the instant the Boos overlap.
  • The time limit doesn't start until you raise your bow, so watch the Boos' movements carefully.
