Javelin Throw is an Event that appears in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Arcade Edition. The aim of the event is to throw the javelin as far as possible, with the starting world record being 98.480m and the starting Olympic record being 90.570m. The event takes place in the Olympic Stadium, and the characters with this as a recommended event are Bowser, Bowser Jr., Knuckles and Metal Sonic.
Gameplay[edit]
In this event, the player starts by running up to build power to throw the javelin by running on the cabinet base, with the faster they can run giving the javelin more distance when thrown. After a short period of time, the player's speed will be locked and the player must set the angle of their throw by pushing both of the joysticks upwards when the javelin reaches the angle they want to throw at. The closer to 45° the selected angle is, the further the javelin will be thrown. Once the javelin has been released, the player can shake the joysticks in any direction to boost their character's shout, causing the javelin to gain additional distance the more that they are shaken. When the javelin lands, Lakitu measures the distance of the javelin and the player's placement in the event is decided.
At the end of the event, the player's performance will be ranked in the categories of Approach, Angle and Roar
