The Boy in Mario Suit and Boy in Sonic Suit are Miis that appear as recurring characters in the Road to Rio mode of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for the Nintendo 3DS. The player first meets the two at the beginning of the mode, when they introduce Mario's Gym and Sonic's Gym to them and ask them to choose one. They will then appear around every district of Rio, where they will talk to the player about how their favorite gym is better than the other or taunt the other gym.

After strange events start happening, such as the ghost sightings and the medals' disappearance, the boys start spreading unconfirmed rumors about how Mario or Sonic are the culprits. During Mario Story, the boy in the Mario suit helps Vector investigate the ghosts sightings, while in Sonic Story, the boy in the Sonic suit helps Amy with searching for Sonic, later saying that Sonic has reportedly been investigating Mario's Gym. On Day 5 of Mario Story, the player can spot both boys talking to Bowser Jr. about a plan regarding the gold medals. On Day 6 of Sonic Story, Knuckles and Donkey Kong have an argument in which they accuse each other of sabotaging the gyms' training. After the player talks to both, they reveal that they got told these conflicting statements by the boys in the Sonic and Mario suits respectively, and they later apologize while telling this to the others.

On Day 7 of Sonic Story, after the player enters Dr. Eggman's secret factory in southeast Deodoro with Jet's help, Sonic tells them that Dr. Eggman used the Mario and Sonic suits to hypnotize the two boys and spread rumors to create rivalry between the gyms, so that he and Bowser could steal the medals. Sonic then says that he smashed everything in the lab so that Eggman would not be able to create any more suits, and the player uses Tails' Signal Jammer to destroy the device controlling the boys. Afterwards, the player can go talk to the boys, now free from Eggman's control, who will both apologize for what they have done while still wearing Mario and Sonic suits as they are fans.
