Name

From where does the name Snow Cheep Cheep come from? In the capture list it's as stated called Cheep Cheep (Snow Kingdom) so why is it Snow Cheep Cheep? --Raltseye prata med mej 06:10, 4 December 2017 (EST)

It's not that simple, though. If you check out the name of I Met a Snow Cheep Cheep! in other languages, most of them refer to it as a Cheep Cheep in the snow or some variant thereof (in Japanese, the Snow Kingdom's Cheep Cheep). It's also a counterpart to the I Met a Lake Cheep Cheep! mission, and we're not calling the regular red Cheep Cheeps "Lake Cheep Cheeps" anytime soon. As unusual as "Cheep Cheep (Snow Kingdom)" is as labeled in the Capture List, it's clearly the intentional name, whereas Snow Cheep Cheep seems to be incidental. Snow Cheep Cheep seems to mean "Cheep Cheep of the snow," so it's basically an identifier from official wording, ie works just as well as Cheep Cheep (Snow Kingdom) would. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 08:04, 9 December 2017 (EST)

It's inconsistent to use Snow Cheep Cheep when Lake Cheep Cheep also exists in a corresponding mission title, especially when we're well aware that they're both likely to be a minor translation mistake instead of a deliberate name. "Cheep Cheep (Snow Kingdom)" is just more readily visible to players as well. We didn't make up the identifier - it's consistently there in almost every language in the Capture List. If they're referred to as "Cheep Cheep (Snow Kingdom)", wouldn't that imply they're just regular Cheep Cheeps that happen to live in that kingdom? Is there any difference between the lake and snow Cheep Cheeps besides colour anyways? Blinker (talk) 14:35, September 13, 2021 (EDT)

Per everything above. This is just a Zigzag Lava Bubble situation with extra steps. The name comes from the power moon mission, it's only from the English version of the power moon mission(The other languages either say Cheep Cheep in the snow or just Cheep Cheep), and it's only functional difference ties to the kingdom it's in. There isn't much reason for keeping it split that I can think of given the fact that the game also calls the regular cheep cheep a "Lake Cheep Cheep" in a similar mission, and it's not like we have an article for that Cheep Cheep.

But it's purple, not red!

That's not a unique color for Cheep Cheeps.

EDIT: adding a move to Cheep Cheep(Snow Kingdom) option. Given that Cheep Cheep(Snow Kingdom) is more consistent across all the languages and closer to the name used everywhere else, we should at least move this article there if we’re not merging it.

Hewer (talk) The fact that this is separated in the capture list means that it's officially considered a separate thing. We don't have a separate page for Lake Cheep Cheep, but that's only because it's just the normal Cheep Cheep, as identified everywhere else in the game (including the capture list) where it isn't just generically called a 'fish', so the name 'Lake Cheep Cheep' was probably only used to differentiate it from the Snow Cheep Cheeps. Also, three of the four purple Cheep Cheeps you linked to are separate from Cheep Cheep anyway, so I don't see your point there.

#Seandwalsh (talk) As well as what Hewer said, the other purple Cheep Cheeps mentionined are separate Cheep Cheep species. It also serves a different function in gameplay, being resistant to the cold waters. Unless there's also going to be a merger of Eep Cheeps and Deep Cheeps I don't see why this one should. The Bonnetor Biologist from the power moon mission also points out that it has a "natural cold sink" and calls it a "freezing fishy mystery". Regardless, if the page stays separate it should be moved to "Cheep Cheep (Snow Kingdom)", as that is what it's called on the capture list.

@Hewer the game also lists the puzzle and picture pieces from the 2 different kingdoms as separate, yet we have them merged. As for the color, my point is that purple is not a unique cheep cheep color for it to have. The fact that other cheep cheeps were purple, that the game only calls it a snow cheep cheep in 1 version and that it’s functionally identical is why this proposal was made in the first place. Also, the fact that the name for the Snow Cheep Cheep in the capture list is Cheep Cheep(Snow Kingdom) implies that it's a cheep cheep living in the snow kingdom, not a cheep cheep variant or sub-species of a cheep cheep. By definition, it is a variant of the Cheep Cheep (different spot in the capture list, different appearance, and mechanically different, but still based on the Cheep Cheep). Its bad name doesn't change that, nor does its mechanical difference being tied to its kingdom (which doesn't make it any less a difference). @Seaandwalsh Deep Cheeps and Eep Cheeps are officially named across all languages and have functional differences that don't tie to the area/game they're in. This cheep cheep was only named in the English version with the other versions either being "Cheep Cheep in the snow" or just "Cheep Cheep". As for the icy water, again, that functional difference ties to the area it's in. If they put cheep cheeps in the lost kingdom, they would have to make them poison resistant as the only liquid in that kingdom is poisonous. Snow Cheep Cheeps are also named actoss all languages, and the distinguishing element of their names is present in the Japanese version - its not like it was invented by the English localisers, though the differentiator was dropped in a few other localisations. If they put Cheep Cheeps in the Lost Kingdom they'd probably make them pink and call them Cheep Cheeps (Lost Kingdom), and they'd also deserve a page of their own in my opinion. Snow Cheep Cheeps having their own spot in the capture list means precisely jack squat. We don't split the Puzzle Parts; we don't split the Picture Match Parts. We also don't split Purple Klaptraps anymore, despite being just as different from regular Klaptraps as Snow Cheep Cheeps are from Cheep Cheeps (and the gray Krushas from Platform Perils were never split). The capture list doesn't even give them a unique name, just an identifier. On that note, I fail to see how moving to the identifier name is supposed to justify the article's existence.
