== Your User Page Colors ==

Hey thanks for cropping that Bubbles pic for me, the table looks a lot better now! {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}
Green-and-blue doesn't make for a great contrast, and it's kind of hard for me to read.  Do you mind altering the colors of your user page for better contrast?  Thanks! -{{User:YoshiFlutterJump/sig}} 00:40, 20 November 2017 (EST)
:Yeah thanks for the tip. I'm trying to make the [[DK: King of Swing]] article more presentable so I will keep that tool in mind. {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}

== Re:Uploads are JPEG to PNG ==

I have sprites I am willing to upload from DK: King of Swing, but the background is purple. Are you able to recolor them if I upload or send them to you? {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}
Hi, my uploads of Paper Mario artwork were PNG to begin with. I got them from the source in the upload description if you want proof, they were already PNG. The only exception is Kooper, because I found the existing JPG artwork looked better and was slightly bigger so my bad on that one. --{{User:Fawfulfan64/sig}} 16:09, 1 December 2017 (EST)
:Alright cool. I think the size might be messed up as well but I think someone with more skill image-wise than me can fix it. {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}
:OK that makes sense. What about the ones that are bigger than what's already here though, like most partner and boss art? Also, in regards to the JPG to PNG thing, I've had this thought for a while but I'm not sure if it's been answered, what's wrong with uploading them as PNGs when that makes the process of uploading actual high quality PNGs when they are found easier, since you can just update the existing file instead of uploading a new one? --{{User:Fawfulfan64/sig}} 16:26, 1 December 2017 (EST)
::Yes I'm really not that technologically skilled to do that stuff. Sorry. {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}
Can I re-add the artworks that are at least more desirable than the current tiny/small ones? (Peach distress, Goomba King, Kammy etc that obviously weren't copied from the wiki to begin with) --{{User:Fawfulthegreat64/sig}} 12:03, 5 December 2017 (EST)

== Reverting edits ==

Maybe you'd like to find some better sprites?--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 18:41, 10 December 2016 (EST)
Hey. Just to let you know, when someone's done a spate of edits you can actually undo them. Just click onto the page history, go to the last "good" revision, click edit, and then save. It's basically the rollbacking ability we have, just more steps. {{User|Yoshi876}}
:I just found the texture from sticker star that makes the sprites shiny.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 19:33, 10 December 2016 (EST)
:That sounds like you're just clicking the undo button, what you need to do is click on the timecode for that edit. When you go to edit you should get a message reading "Warning: You are editing an out-of-date revision of this page. If you save it, any changes made since this revision will be lost." {{User|Yoshi876}}
::Alrighty.
:::The Paper sprites are getting deleted, which I expected. Is there anyway you can get some native resolution png screenshots from Paper Jam of the paper enemies, for cropping? Like maybe using the Citra emulator, or through homebrew HANS or whatvere. I barely understand any of that.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 09:45, 13 December 2016 (EST)

== Re: Deleting bestiary leftovers ==
== Thanks ==

Look, I want to incorporate the enemy idle animations back into the Bestiaries, not on the page itself, but when transcluded the gifs show up in the enemy box. However, I can't very well do that if you're going to delete all the gifs.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 23:30, 10 December 2016 (EST)
Hey, just want to say thanks for helping out with my screenshot qualities. I may have a way of getting higher quality screenshots for NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and GBA through my father's Retron system, but the setup for doing so is rather...convoluted and may not happen any time soon. So, until I'm able to meet policy on my own, thanks for the help. :) {{User:Alex95/sig}} 22:43, 20 December 2017 (EST)
:I've already added the Paper Jam gifs. Speaking of which, I might need to whip up a new proposal soon, one that will allow modification of images in order to give an accurate portrayal, ie adding the white outline to the sticker star sprites and uploading them under paper jam.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 00:51, 11 December 2016 (EST)
:Despite possible Retron mistakes, the image quality would be much better than my capture card can produce. The issue is it saves to an SD card, which my computer does not have a slot for. My dad's computer does, though, so maybe I can work things out with him sometime.
::Just please, take a step back on the gifs that belong to RPGs. They aren't leftovers.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 01:14, 11 December 2016 (EST)
:The program I am currently using is called Debut Video Capture Software made by the NCH Software company, with my capture card being an AV to USB, if that helps. Not sure which one is the real issue when it comes to quality, or if it's both, but it's easily accessible and my computer can (barely) run it.
:::Actually, I'm only concerned with the RPGs.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 01:54, 11 December 2016 (EST)
:While I have no other way of capturing N64, GCN, or Wii footage and screenshots (and I can upload from the Wii U directly), I can use my father's Retron for the NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and GBA screenshots, which the Retron automatically takes at pixel-perfect size, so I'll see what I can do with that when I need to. DS and 3DS is a nope though :P {{User:Alex95/sig}} 11:31, 21 December 2017 (EST)

== Re: Images and Categories ==
They're from the Retron I mentioned above. Takes snapshots in the correct size, but sadly, there's no way to change the output file format :( {{User:Alex95/sig}} 21:02, 16 March 2018 (EDT)
:Oh, I guess I've just been saying "Retron" rather than "Retron 5" :P It can play NES, SNES, Famicom, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 11:14, 17 March 2018 (EDT)

Hi! I am so sorry for not filling the spaces! I actually knew what I was doing for the <nowiki>{{aboutfile}}</nowiki> template: I actually just filled it on the 1st frame image and the rest I left incomplete since I thought only filling the first frame would be enough, as the other images are just a sequence...
==Hey==
Hey thanks! I'm going to be very busy today, as it is Christmas, but I'll look into those softwares you suggested to upload the rest of the pictures. Thanks and, by the way, happy holidays, too! {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}

I left the categories empty because we didn't have a category page for those, again, sorry!!! If you are willing to create those category pages, I tramslated the titles of the comics: The Halloween one is "Ashley meets Halloween" (or maybe Ashley's Halloween meeting, I am not the best in japanese, sorry) and the 2nd, the Barbara one is merely called "Barbara and Ashley"

I asked the same Question and someone told me to ask you this question. Ever since Miiverse has shut down, I've lost my work into trying to put in images I post on Miiverse, so I decide on Uploading images taken from my iPhone which was my only way around it (I own an iPhone 4, so the quality shouldn't be too bad). == Homebrew ==
== RE:SWF JPEG screenshots ==

Ok, I might do the Homebrew. I have a New 3DS XL, up to date, and my copy of Paper Jam is digital. Will this mess up my system, revoke my Nintendo Network account, is it reversible?--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 17:28, 13 December 2016 (EST)
To take screenshots, I put the games on full-screen and use the print screen function. I then paste them in Photoshop and save them for web as JPEG. I don't think it's possible to take screenshots directly from the SWF file, unless I download and use third-party software which I don't want to do. -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}} 18:07, 31 December 2017 (EST)
:I remember seeing a homebrew thing that lets you make custom 3DS themes. Can I still do that with 3DSX? And will using the exploits in compatible games ruin the game?--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 19:47, 13 December 2016 (EST)
:I think I understand what you are talking about, but I do not have the Flash files (.fla) so that I could access the contents of these games. Only the Adobe Player files (.swf) that run them can be downloaded from the net. Or do you mean there are other official Flash players out there which allow me to take screenshots? I can't find them... -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}} 06:56, 2 January 2018 (EST)
::I think only the smashbroshax will work for me, but it sounds risky since it can affect other smash players. Is the exploit, or exploits, a one time only thing or what?--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 20:07, 13 December 2016 (EST)
::I'm honestly out of the loop with this. Have merely downloaded and installed a new version of the Flash Player. Now, how do I effortlessly take screenshots on a .swf file? I can neither do it on browser nor on the separate file, unless I use the Print Screen function. -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}} 12:01, 2 January 2018 (EST)
:::I think I may need to find myself a copy of Freakyforms Deluxe because the smashbrosax sounds way too complicated for me to comprehend.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 20:39, 13 December 2016 (EST)
:::Got it. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I have the time to retake the screenshots, and it's a pretty tedious work at that. Should the image-quality template be put to the existing images? -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}} 09:41, 3 January 2018 (EST)
::::Okay, I did the freakyhax and got to the homebrew menu. I went to the theme manager and scanned for themes. It stayed there awhile and I couldn't exit so I closed the system. The screen was black and I couldn't do anything so I turned it off and back on. now when I do the exploit, it partially loads, but it stay on the black screen that says the homemenu ropbin is ready.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 20:53, 14 December 2016 (EST)
:::::Guess it takes a few tries. However when I try booting paper jam up in hans, the bottom screen goes red and the top goes black.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 21:19, 14 December 2016 (EST)
::::::What's NTR CFW and would it work as an alternative to using HANS for the screenshots?--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 18:24, 17 December 2016 (EST)
:::::::I'm asking you because I don't understand anything in the world of homebrew, and I'm not a redditor. You're my reference. Check this out [https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/4kfqv0/guide_how_to_installuse_ntr_cfw_cheatsreal_time/ here].--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}}
::::::::What's a cia?--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 19:36, 17 December 2016 (EST)
:I actually did manage to get NTR CFW on my 2DS and it works. The only issue is half the time when I take a screenshot, the game glitches out and stops rendering sprites, only models and textures. But if you can get the cartridge version of Paper Jam working with HANS, that'll be way more convenient. One thing though: DO NOT UPDATE THE GAME. It's possible that's the reason it wouldn't work for me.--{{User:Eldritchdraaks/sig}} 14:26, 1 February 2017 (EST)

I only managed to get the DOS version working by running Windows XP through VirtualBox, and even then the results are iffy. I can save, but some parts are oddly sped up. Still, I've been getting my images directly from the folders; it's convenient that the static images are .bmp, which can be easily converted to .png. Unfortunately, any elements that are animated, including Paradise, are stored as .anx, which is a lot harder (read: impossible from what I can tell) to convert. I can try to take a screencap of the ending, but that'll require going through the rest of the game first. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 01:26, 14 December 2016 (EST)

== APNG Optimizer (usable both with still and animated PNG) ==
Hello, could you upload an image of each cities from the [[Mario_is_Missing!#MS-DOS|MS-DOS version]] (especially the red links)?
In my past proposal about APNG you asked if optimizators for APNG images like Zopfling exist. They do indeed exist: [https://sourceforge.net/projects/apng/files/APNG_Optimizer/ APNG Optimizer] is an open-source (zlib license) software that works both with still and animated PNG files and has, among the compressors, also Zopfli, making it pretty much a superset of current optimizators for still PNG files. I think it might be interesting for you, considering Google is about to implement APNG in Chrome and such an optimizer would optimize all .png files, both still and animated.--[[User:Mister Wu|Mister Wu]] ([[User talk:Mister Wu|talk]]) 21:05, 16 December 2016 (EST)

== Re: Replace Images ==
== Image Quality ==

Thanks for the advice. BTW is there any way to distinguish which screenshots in Cat:MLBIS Images are not pixel-accurate? I might have missed some JPG-converted-to-PNG images (as well as incorrectly configured ones like this). Also I have yet to hunt for images with emulator-generated borders or from a non-US locale. --{{User:A gossip-loving Toad/sig}} 03:12, 18 December 2016 (EST)
Hey would you mind reuploading [[:File:Rainbow Tourney.png|this]] to improve the quality? {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}
:Ah, thanks for the encouragement. For JPG-to-PNG, I used MS Paint's "fill/color bucket" tool to detect irregularities in color around text or game elements. And the advice to use SoftRasterizer was in time too!
:Hey you see for the original upload of [[:File:Rainbow Tourney.png|this picture]] how it has a Rainbow Tourney logo on the bottom? Is it possible that you can reupload that specific picture so the Rainbow Tourney logo is there like it is in the original? {{User:DKPetey99/sig}}
:Unfortunately, this is what I can do for now because there's a [[Giant Bowser]] vs [[Fawful Express]] intermission which requires the player blowing into the microphone, but the noise sample provided by DeSmuME isn't recognized as blowing, nor is my microphone input when I really blow (even after setting the Windows 7 meters to maximum), so I'm literally stuck there. --{{User:A gossip-loving Toad/sig}} 21:24, 29 December 2016 (EST)

::Can you tell me what that YouTube video is about? I'm unable to view it myself since YouTube is blocked in China. Thanks. --{{User:A gossip-loving Toad/sig}} 23:57, 29 December 2016 (EST)
:::Ah, great! It worked and now I can resume the project. By the way, it seems that simply turning on SoftRasterizer is not enough to correctly render the HP/SP panels in screenshots like [[:File:Memory ML.png]] in DeSmuME 0.9.11. I had to check the "Enable TXT Hack" to get a better version of that screenshot. Even worse, even with "Enable TXT Hack" turned on rendering of Baby Mario is still wrong in [[:File:Babybowserfight.PNG]] compared with the [https://www.spriters-resource.com/ds_dsi/marioluigipartners/sheet/52561/ Spriters Resource]. (I was using the x64 version without enabling the dynamic recompiler.) --{{User:A gossip-loving Toad/sig}} 01:08, 30 December 2016 (EST)

== Re:Image Category Reminder ==
== RE: Concept Art Category ==

Thanks for the heads-up. I do try to categorize images as best as I can, and if I forget, anyone, including myself, can categorize them for me. Plus, if you fail to categorize images from an upload, the image will flash a reminder at you to add categories. {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 10:29, 21 December 2016 (EST)
Branching it out makes it more convenient for viewers. I can understand wanting to keep them all in one place, but if a user were to look for some concept art, a separate category would save them the trouble of having to sift through hundreds of pre-release/unused content images. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 03:29, 18 January 2018 (EST)

== Re:Signature ==
:I wouldn't be opposed to splitting the pre-release and unused content images, and if there are any overlaps as you mentioned (pre-release content found unused in the game), both categories can be included on the file page; if there are too many overlaps, though, then it's probably not worth splitting them. Considering we have [[:Category:Fair use art]] and not "Fair use art images" (which seems a bit redundant), I don't think renaming [[:Category:Concept art]] is really necessary. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 07:22, 19 January 2018 (EST)

== On issuing warnings ==

Hi Wildgoosespeeder. The admins agreed that it was necessary to post a message here regarding some types of warnings you've been issuing lately. Please remember that before giving out any of the [[MarioWiki:Warning policy|four warning templates]], that you are fully aware of the relevant policy, and have first given the situation careful and proper judgement.

The problem has arisen several times through warning appeals from other users, which involve templates that should never have been issued in the first place. The user {{plain link|1=[http://www.mariowiki.com/MarioWiki:Appeals/Archive_2#LuigiBro_.28talk.29 LuigiBro]}} should have just been told to purge his browser's cache, as [[:File:MPAdvanceUKboxart.jpg#Licensing|you knew]] that was the reason why he reverted the upload. Secondly, {{plain link|1=[http://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=MarioWiki:Appeals/Archive&oldid=2117672#The_RPG_Gamer_2 your reminder]}} to The RPG Gamer regarding using HTML markup had no standing at all with the warning policy: issuing a reminder was completely out of the question. Finally, the reminder that Toadette the Achiever recently appealed should also have been considered more carefully. You yourself linked to [[MarioWiki:Courtesy]] with the reminder, even if it clearly states that ''" discourteous behavior is not serious enough to warrant an official {{tem|reminder}} right off the bat"'' in the first paragraph.

Warnings are a serious thing, and it's important that they are issued correctly. And if you're in doubt on whether a first-time or minor infraction deserves a warning or not, it's always better to go with an informal message first. Please don't take this as a discouragement from enforcing the rules: it's just to ensure that enforcement is done properly, and hopefully it may also reduce the number of users appealing their warnings. Thanks for reading.

== OpenGL for ''Partners in Time'' battles? ==

If you've followed my recent conversation with {{user|Shokora}}, there's [[:File:MLPiT Petey Piranha battle.png|this screenshot]] that SoftRasterizer failed to render Luigi's hat correctly (like it did for Baby Mario). In such cases, do you know if OpenGL is a suitable substitute for the 3D rendering? Literally, no, but functionally, yes. Mario, Peach, Yoshi, and DK are the four starting characters in the game, whereas Gene is only unlocked late into the story. == Virtual Boy Screenshots ==

Hi Wildgoosespeeder. I've been looking into taking screenshots from Virtual Boy emulators recently, because results in the color display can vary significantly. I've been using Red Dragon, which is old software, and I've understood that it's not recommended by [http://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Virtual_Boy_emulators Emulation General] and [https://tcrf.net/Help:Contents/Taking_Screenshots#Virtual_Boy TCRF]. Both of these sources recommend the VBjin emulator instead. However, following [http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=33319 this info] on Virtual Boy color display, the RGB value of the Red is evenly spread in intervals of 85 (0-85-170-255). Using this information, the following image shows the proper colors of the Virtual Boy:

[[File:Virtual Boy Color Palette.png|left]]
{{br|left}}

However, no emulator matches this exactly. Red Dragon is actually ''much more'' accurate than VBjin. See the following table that I compiled (all in RGB values).
{{br|left}}

{|class="wikitable"
! VBjin
! Red Dragon
! Actual Virtual Boy colors

Should [[User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox|your draft]] be updated to reflect this difference? With GIMP, I replaced the colors of a Red Dragon screenshot with the correct ones, and it makes quite a difference. Compare the [https://www.mariowiki.com/images/archive/2/2a/20170211104434%21Dinosaur_Fish.png original screenshot] with the one with [https://www.mariowiki.com/images/2/2a/Dinosaur_Fish.png corrected colors]. On your draft page, should we give instructions on how to correct the colors in GIMP?

{{User:Shokora/sig}} 06:15, 11 February 2017 (EST)

Yeah, the instructions to correct it in external programs could be a little complicated for everyone to view on the policy page, and you're right: the small difference isn't too significant. I don't mind making the colour-corrections myself, so I'm happy to just keep that level of accuracy as a standard to enforce for myself and any other screenshots which I feel could be improved.

== RE: A User's Submissions ==

It depends on the image. {{user|Shokora}} brought up a point in regards to the Chain Chomp images: The original screenshot image might have certain features that would be good to have around (the stake it's attached to, in this case), so anything like that doesn't need total replacing. If that's the case, I think the source image should at least be mentioned in an {{tem|aboutfile}} template on the sprite page. {{User:Mario jc/sig}} 05:30, 15 February 2017 (EST)

Since you seem to have included this in a few of your edits, I wanted to let you know that when you're adding an image to an article, it's unnecessary to include "right" in the image tags. Might I ask why you changed the SMG Mechakoopa image to have pre-release tags? :I happened to come across the citation needed on your [[User:Wildgoosespeeder/sandbox#Wii_U|sandbox]] for 1080p Wii U images. To my knowledge, the only way to obtain 1080p images is if a game has a method of saving screenshots to an SD card. The SD card can then be inserted into a computer of your choice, and you can obtain the images from there. This is how I uploaded the bulk of my images for ''[[Super Smash Bros. for Wii U]]'', though it isn't much help if the game has no such method. In most cases, the 720p method you outlined is the most reliable way of obtaining images from a Wii U.

== RE: TTYD Screenshots ==

Do u think I choose YouTube? No. I also know that snips from YouTube are nearly always blurry.
They're being uploaded in my perspective (regards less), if unless you're planning to assist me.
I still insist that the latest snip was also from an emulator. I snipped it while was playing Bit Boy on Dolphin. And about my file list, except the first two (which I don't remind from where) all others were snipped while I was playing them on emulator. SSG3 pics was from the game's assets.
I REALLY don't know why even snipping tool makes the shot you have got blurry. I also have this prob while ripping sprites and logos, which I snip, but it isn't pixel perfect, as I compare them to pics from the other collab websites, such as TCRF. How the heck they are pixel perfect?? :-)

*P.S. I played it again. The blur is not from my snipping. The game screen IS blurry, if you think. As a proof, You can check it out for yourself on Dolphin.

Hey, I get you were trying to test something with transclusion, but [[Template:Test template delete|making a template just for it to be deleted]] is something you shouldn't do. If you need to test transclusion with something, you can use one of your subpages and transclude that, but creating a test template is just unnecessary. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 17:08, 30 March 2018 (EDT)
:Yeah, no, you don't create something just for it to be deleted. That just creates extra work and is, again, unnecessary. == Re: Image Category Reminder ==
I've said it before, I'll say it again if need be >.< . The English instruction manual is ''not'' the only source for Rocky Wrench. The various Shogakukan books referred to them ''specifically'' as being within the ''Kame-zoku'', which means not "turtle," but "Turtle ''Tribe''," which is the ''same'' term they use in the JP instruction manual for SMB1 in reference to what the English manual calls "the Koopa." Ergo, they were ''indisputably'' Koopas back then, and saying "nuh-uh they're just turtles saying they're Koopas is fancruft" when ''specific'' evidence is presented to you is just not OK. Aaaaanyways, how can Monty Mole have been the parent species? You said that Rocky was simply "revealed" first. The problem is, this ''hinges'' on the idea that Nintendo had already come up with Monty Moles before development of SMB3, despite there being ''no'' evidence to support this and the fact that Rockies were Koopas then indicating that no, they hadn't come up with them then. ''Furthermore'', Rocky Wrench still has the less specific Japanese name. I really don't see why people don't like this idea. It makes the most sense from a design history perspective. And sorry if this comes off as unnecessarily rude, but I ''despise'' having to explain the same thing seven times. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 01:44, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
:The only reason I PM'd you is that you seem to have not seen my explaining this multiple times, and I wanted to make sure you actually saw it. The term "Koopa" was initially used as a direct translation of "Kame-Zoku" in the SMB1 instruction manual, and ergo, they are literally synonymous, as "Koopa" was used as a translation for that. So it's not just generic turtles. It's Koopas specifically. [[User:Doc von Schmeltwick|Doc von Schmeltwick]] ([[User talk:Doc von Schmeltwick|talk]]) 02:03, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
:Why did you say a Hammer Bro is a kind of Troopa? Are you trying to make me burst a blood vessel? That's not nice....but anyways, I don't think [[Bazuka]] is a kind of [[Kobble]], and that's fairly comparable to this comparison. Not all Koopas are Troopas, as Troopas are a specific subgroup. Spinies are Koopas, but they certainly aren't Troopas. Please, just....have mercy, that outright causes me physical ''pain'' to see people do that. == Goombas: (microgame) or (WarioWare: D.I.Y.)? ==
== Re: Audio Formats ==

Hi, I noticed that you moved [[Goombas (microgame)]] back to [[Goombas (WarioWare: D.I.Y.)|Goombas (''WarioWare: D.I.Y.'')]]. As per the [[MarioWiki:Naming|naming policy]], type identifiers ''must'' be used before we move on to video game title identifiers. Also, what do you mean by "consistency issue"? [[Rocky Road (microgame)|This is an example of what I'm taking about.]] {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 17:41, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
Apologies, I'm not familiar with uploading audio files outside of the mp3 file format, which Super Mario Wiki should consider having, hence why I accidentally did so. But thanks for suggesting me some reliable websites as well for converting file formats that are Super Mario Wiki compatible for future references.
:That doesn't necessarily answer my question. Pretty much the only example of the game title actually ''doing'' a solid as an identifier (from a fifty-page sample of the [[Special:WantedPages|wanted pages list]]) is [[Hare Raising]]. Again (well, maybe not '''''again''''', but rather reiterating what I said earlier), check the [[Rocky Road]] disambiguation page as an example. One last thing: when giving another response, could you please state ''how'' your title identifiers comply with [[MarioWiki:Naming]]? Thanks! {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 18:11, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
::The templates ([[:Template:WWDIY Microgames]] and [[:Template:WWDIYS Microgames]]) have several instances of Microgame Name (microgame) like [[Paratroopa (microgame)]], [[Spiny (microgame)]], [[Pikmin (microgame)]], [[Yoshi (microgame)]], [[Mario Kart (microgame)]], [[Super Koopa (microgame)]], [[Boo (microgame)]], and [[1-UP (microgame)]]. Those with (WarioWare: D.I.Y.) are those with other WarioWare games. {{User:Yoshi the Space Station Manager/sig}} 18:23, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
:::Those examples are all from the game ''[[WarioWare: D.I.Y.]]''/''[[WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase]]'', which wouldn't really all that bad if they all had <code>(WarioWare: D.I.Y.)</code> instead. Yes, two games, but we tend to think of them as one game, kind of like ''[[Super Smash Bros. 4]]'' for the 3DS and Wii U. The games compliment each other. Unless there is a new ''WarioWare'' release for the 3DS, Wii U, or Switch that reuses the older microgames as a legacy feature, which I doubt will happen, the name is fine for right now. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 18:31, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
::::There is also [[Famicom (microgame)]] from WarioWare Twisted. I didn't really search the other WarioWares when I made the above post, and I just looked at WarioWare Twisted for this post. {{User:Yoshi the Space Station Manager/sig}} 18:40, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
:::::@Wildgoosespeeder: What about '''over fifty other articles''' that are treated the same, such as [[Chain Chomp (level)]], [[Muncher (level)]], [[Rocky Road (mission)]], or even game titles that '''can't''' be separated via game identifiers, such as [[Mario Golf (Nintendo 64)]] or [[Donkey Kong (game)]]? Maybe you're referring to the precedent for [[DK Jungle]]? Lastly, could you please bring up the exact line in [[MarioWiki:Naming]] that '''clearly''' states that your naming was correct? {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 18:49, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
::::::RE: [[Skeeter]] seems fine, since {{fake link|Skeeter (enemy)}} doesn't differentiate anything as said in rule 2 of the naming identifier policy, but I suppose we should talk to Steve about the [[Gold Ring]] example. Wow, I didn't realize how weird that example is. {{User:Toadette the Achiever/sig}} 19:00, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
"I don't think {{user|Porplemontage}} cares that much about the rules" Considering he runs the place, I'm pretty he cares very much. A majority of the microgame pages that have a name similar to a non-microgame page are identified with (microgame) rather than the game title. According to [[MarioWiki:Naming#Shared titles]], the '''type''' of content it is should be the identifier, in this case "(microgame)". {{User:Alex95/sig}} 19:12, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
:I mean if there is something factually wrong or he spots vandalism, yes he cares. From my editing experience, I don't think he contributes all that much in terms of information about any topic. Doesn't really matter though. Getting off-track. I don't consider him the go-to guy for how to organize content. I would ask some other sysop. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 19:19, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
::Does he contribute a lot? No. Does he care how the wiki is run and if the users follow the rules and policy? Yes. Regardless of what you think Porplemontage does or not, the name of the page is incorrect and should be moved back as per policy. If an identifier is needed, especially if the subject is across multiple games (which it is, in this case), the identifier is of the type of the subject, not the game it's from. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 19:27, 24 June 2017 (EDT)
:::Alright then, but there are many articles that have this problem, so would it make more sense for policy to reflect alternative names, the kind of alternative name being debated about, which could be just as valid when thought about more critically? --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 19:36, 24 June 2017 (EDT)

== Upscaled Images ==

It's partially because I don't have the SNES music (I ''do'' have the tracks for the PC Deluxe release, albeit as MIDIs), and mostly because I'm not used to uploading music. It's always seemed a lot more complicated than uploading images, especially when it comes to obtaining it and how to convert it so that the sound doesn't become horribly corrupted or something, so I've always tended to abstain from that stuff. Besides all of that, though, are music tracks generally uploaded to the individual pages? There doesn't seem to be a policy page about music/sounds, but from what I can tell, they're relegated to subpages of the games. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 23:30, 11 July 2017 (EDT)

:::Thank you for the link, but now that I'm listening to all of them back-to-back, there's an issue: some of the level themes aren't unique. I haven't played through each level yet (and I only have so many save states), but I can at least tell you that [[Philadelphia]] and [[Calcutta]] share their music, as do [[Orleans]] and [[Cambuluc]], [[Cambridge University]] and [[Menlo Park]], and [[Florence]] and [[Athens]]. :::::Again, I'm just following what Shokora said. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 23:25, 12 July 2017 (EDT)

::The error messages were mostly with Winamp, so I switched to XMPlay. And now that I put more thought into it, I realized what was going on. Long story short, I didn't realize that Windows used its default soundfont when playing the game, and it took me an embarrassingly long time to both figure that out and put it into effect. Now it's just a matter of looping and fading out the track, which I should hopefully be able to manage. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 20:26, 14 July 2017 (EDT)
:::Yeah, it doesn't loop nicely in-game. It always lags for a second as the music starts again. I'll leave it as-is, then. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 22:43, 14 July 2017 (EDT)

I always appreciate this kind of help. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 23:56, 14 July 2017 (EDT)
:To clarify the different versions of MTM, there's the NES release in 1994, the SNES release in 1993, the DOS release in 1993, and the Deluxe release of the DOS version in 1996. I've been calling this last version the "PC" release for lack of a better term. In any case, I'm not sure if it's feasible to obtain the music, or any piece of media, from the DOS release: I actually own it (it was released on floppy disks in 1993, but later ported to CD-ROMs in 1994 with no changes), but its files aren't as easily accessible as the Deluxe version, and the methods that I've seen online for obtaining music from DOS games are... [http://www.mirsoft.info/gamemids-ripping-guide.php unwieldy], to say the least, and completely impractical for me. Beyond that, the game is really laggy when run through DOSbox, to the point that it crashes most of the time and is too slow to play otherwise. In short, obtaining the music is not particularly feasible. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 22:08, 15 July 2017 (EDT)
:I just wanted to inform you. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 22:25, 15 July 2017 (EDT)

Did it. There's one track I haven't uploaded yet, it keeps screwing up when I throw it into xmplay, but everything else has been uploaded. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 18:18, 13 August 2017 (EDT)
:I've been using the middle-mouse trick continuously, but the RegEx stuff's new to me. I probably won't be able to make use of that, but I appreciate the knowledge nonetheless. Also, if you're gonna link to Wikipedia, the wiki's moving to using {{tem|wp}} instead of the original <nowiki>[[Wikipedia:Wikipedia]]</nowiki> links. It's basically the same, but if you're linking to Mario (to use that as an example), you can write <nowiki>{{wp|Mario}}</nowiki> instead of <nowiki>[[Wikipedia:Mario|Mario]]</nowiki>. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 20:17, 13 August 2017 (EDT)
::As far as I know, Wikipedia's the only one to have a set-up like that. I wouldn't mind seeing that implemented for the others, especially for the NIWA links - something like <nowiki>{{niwa|splatoon|Inkling}}</nowiki> would be tidy. {{tem|wikipedia}} has also fallen out of use in favor of linking to the article in the intro text (using {{tem|wp}}). {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 15:13, 14 August 2017 (EDT)

Hey, you might know me who found some unused content from Double Dash!! Well I have a folder which has better screenshot images than the wiki.
Hello, I found a small glitch a while back that I made a video of on Youtube on my Mirage account. My problem is I'm not exactly 100% sure on how to word it in the List of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! glitches page. It requires getting the Gyrocopter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78ycf9ITVX0 Could you help me with this if possible? --{{User:Nintendoplayerawesome/sig}} 15:02, April 15, 2019 (EDT)

I assume what I said [https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=Tara_Strong&curid=16646&diff=2242323&oldid=2242321 on Tara Strong's page] is what brought this point up. In that instance, the coverage makes the page seem more like a Wikipedia article, not a Super Mario Wiki one. I ''do'' think it's okay to list a few examples outside of the Mario universe, but this seems a little excessive.<br>
== Smiley Bomb ==
Regarding our coverage on ''Donkey Kong'' and ''Super Smash Bros.'', while I do think that having multiple wikis makes some aspects redundant, at the same time, it is still relevant. [[Donkey Kong]] is a ''Mario'' character and started off as one, as such it makes sense that we would cover his games and series as well. For the ''Super Smash Bros.'' series, it's a bit more difficult to explain, but I do think our coverage on it is relevant. Crossovers are a tricky subject. For example, [[Link]] has crossed over into the ''Mario'' series on several occasions, and we cover him like we would any other ''Mario'' character. Though for cases like, say, [[Marth]], he doesn't appear in the ''Mario'' series all that often. However, with ''[[Super Mario Maker]]'', he does appear in a ''Mario'' series game, which ultimately makes his coverage, albeit a small one, relevant.<br>
Overall, I see no problem with our coverage on the extended ''Mario'' universe. It's really when we start going into Wikipedia-like content that bothers me. Think of it this way, though: Say someone only knows of the Super Mario Wiki and plays ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'', but not knowing about the Smash Wiki, wants to know who [[Wolf O'Donnell]] is. We would provide a small coverage on the character, relevant enough to the connections in ''Smash Bros.'' between him and the ''Mario'' series, and at the end, direct them to the Smash Wiki. But because Wolf and Mario appear alongside each other in a game, we should have an article on him. Not having an article on him when said someone wants to look him up when he appears alongside Mario may leave the reader confused.

It's all about the reader. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 17:51, 19 July 2017 (EDT)

We're not the Donkey Kong Wiki, nor the Smash Wiki. There's no need to follow what the other wikis are doing. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 18:29, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
== At your earliest convenience ==
:Except the other Wikis aren't doing that. Last I checked DKWiki, they were doing an abysmal job at keeping things up to date. And, DK is an offshoot of the Mario series. {{User|Doc von Schmeltwick}} 17:32, 19 July 2017 (CT)
::For the games in question, it shouldn't be {{SITENAME}}'s job to make sure that things are covered and are up-to-date, unless you have an account both at DKWiki and {{SITENAME}}. I would argue that if we stopped covering the games I am questioning, it would help DKWiki get the attention it deserves. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 18:41, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
::Like I said, I have no problem with our coverage. We have a brief opening paragraph about the character's origins, then goes into a simple explanation of their relation to Mario. No, I do not think we should limit the characters to one page, as they can, and in [[Kirby|some]] [[Samus Aran|cases]], ''do'' appear in the ''Mario'' series. ''Super Smash Bros.'' is a collective of series, from ''Super Mario'' to ''The Legend of Zelda'' to ''Street Fighter'', and since by extension they are all related to the ''Mario'' franchise. I realize ZeldaWiki and Bulbapedia don't cover the games to the extend we do, but the point of a wikipedia of any kind is to '''''cover any and all related subjects in an as accurate and up to date manner as possible'''''. Covering Pikachu would fall under that, no?
::As for ''[[Super Mario 64]]'' on DKWiki, Donkey Kong or any Kong-related character or setting, doesn't appear in the game, so the coverage would be irrelevant. But since Shulk appears next to Bowser, we should. If we followed the other wiki's example, we wouldn't cover settings like [[Alltrades Abbey]] or characters like [[Yangus]], despite being a playable setting and character in the heavily ''Mario''-based crossover sports games. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 18:37, 19 July 2017 (EDT)

Throwing in my two cents, I personally think the wiki is fine as-is covering offshoot franchises, such as DK and Smash. After all, neither of these franchises would even exist if it weren't for Mario. And like Alex said, the wiki is meant for the readers, and that would include new readers who have experience with Mario, but may not have experience with other characters, and got introduced to them via Smash or cameos. As such, reducing coverage on that would hurt our readerbase, remove from our encyclopedic aim, drastically change the entire structure of the site, and overall... it just wouldn't be the Super Mario Wiki anymore. It'd be a much more conservative place, something I'm unfamiliar with and something I'd personally would not enjoy, and I'm sure many other people would feel the same way. Your arguments essentially boil down to "it's not Mario enough", and quite frankly, that's a rather weak argument. If something appears in a Mario game, appears alongside Mario characters, or appears somewhere that wouldn't exist without Mario, then it is worthy of at least brief coverage if we want to go for the most complete encyclopedia we can. Therefore, I would staunchly oppose retracting coverage of DK and Smash. {{User:Lord Bowser/sig}} 18:47, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
<big>👉</big>[[The 'Shroom:Issue 150/The 'Shroom Spotlight]]<big>👈</big>
:Your argument is kind of confusing. [[Donkey Kong (game)]] was the first game Mario appeared in so actually, without Donkey Kong, Mario wouldn't be here. We should cover [[Donkey Kong]], but in a similar way that [[DKWiki:Mario|Mario is covered on DKWiki]], and only mention DK's presence in games starring Mario, such as [[Mario vs. Donkey Kong (series)]]. [[Donkey Kong Country (series)]] is overreaching. We should cover how DK is a rival to Mario, not the things he as done not related to Mario at all. DKWiki covers Mario how he is the rival of DK, not the games that don't have anything to do with DK. That's my argument against covering DK's games on {{SITENAME}}. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 23:22, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
:::Per. They're about as ''Mario'' as ''Mario's Time Machine''. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 18:48, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
::::One problem with that argument and that is Donkey Kong isn't referenced at all in ''[[Mario's Time Machine]]'', except [[:File:NES Museum.png|in a portrait]] in the [[NES]] version, which is a reference to ''[[Donkey Kong Jr.]]'', and that barely matters as validation to cover what we do but shouldn't. We cover MTM because it features the controllable character Mario, even though it doesn't fit the mold of established [[genre]]s of the character. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 23:22, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
You don't get it, don't you? The mere fact that Donkey Kong is a ''Mario'' character makes Donkey Kong 64 a ''Mario'' game. It doesn't matter whether Mario himself appears in it. If a ''Mario'' character is a main character in a game, it's a ''Mario'' game. [[File:Luigi Emblem Winter Games.jpg|link=User:Skuchi037]] 18:49, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
:No, ''Donkey Kong 64'' is a Donkey Kong game. But since Donkey Kong debuted and is currently a ''Mario'' character, we cover him and his series as well. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 18:51, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
::You're talking about restructuring how we cover games as a whole. Of course that's going to include more people than just you and me :P {{User:Alex95/sig}} 18:53, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
:::That's my point. ''Donkey Kong 64'' is a ''Mario'' game BECAUSE Donkey Kong is a ''Mario'' character. [[File:Luigi Emblem Winter Games.jpg|link=User:Skuchi037]] 18:58, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
::::Does that mean that that ''[[Super Mario 64]]'' is a DK game because Mario and DK are closely related characters? That's the reasoning you are giving me trying to validate ''[[Donkey Kong 64]]'' being a Mario game. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 23:22, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
This is a discussion that will ultimately go nowhere. You asked what my views are on the coverage, and I gave them. This type of discussion has been brought up several times, and {{User|porplemontage}} has the final say on the matter. And he has said his point multiple times. No. We are not changing how we cover the ''Donkey Kong'' and ''Super Smash Bros.'' games. The ''Smash'' characters appear alongside Mario and the others, in which every character plays a major role in, and ''Donkey Kong'' debuted as a Mario character and his series derived from Mario's, and so we cover both series as normal. End of discussion. Bringing this up again will be a fruitless effort. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 19:03, 19 July 2017 (EDT)
:I didn't expect an immediate change. The goal of this conversation is to get the ball rolling re-evaluating what we cover here. If it were to happen, the change will be gradual and take years to instill the mentality and shift. This is how real life works with anything. Takes a long time for radical change to take place. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 23:22, 19 July 2017 (EDT)

::::::::Like I said, it's not definitive, but at the same time, out of the people who were involved in this discussion, none agreed with you. If you want a larger sample size, how about [[MarioWiki:Proposals/Archive_45#Create_a_page_for_Minecraft:_Wii_U_Edition_as_a_guest_appearance|this proposal]] to consider [[Minecraft]] as a guest appearance? Out of fifteen people who voted, all but one supported it (and before you mention that it was from 2016, most, if not all, of those users are still active today). This community is only so big. Alternatively, there's also [[MarioWiki:Proposals/Archive_27#SmashWiki|this proposal]] that set out to delete all Smash Bros content, and a majority of users voted aginst it (although this time, I will concede that this was six years ago, and not all of those participating users are still here today). Yes, the Minecraft proposal covers a much smaller subject than what's being discussed here, but it shows that there's a general consensus for users being comfortable with those kinds of articles appearing on the wiki. I can personally confirm a significant number of users would be strongly opposed to such radical changes, regardless of how long term they may be. In fact, you are quite literally the ''only'' user I have seen in support of this idea. And only time will tell if everyone here wins the lottery or if the world suddenly blows up or if Nintendo takes down this site or if, or if, or if, and it infinitely goes on from there. It's incredibly easy to talk about potential futures and "what-if" scenarios, but it's a meaningless statement. An entire myriad of things may happen in the future, or they may not. Relying on a single one of those possibilities to occur, out of the entire gamut of possibilities, is jut foolhardy. I get it. I seriously do: you want what's best for the wiki. The thing is, ''everyone'' here does. Nobody has the perfect solution that will solve everyone's problems; nobody could possibly be that prescient. That's why we have discussions and proposals to ultimately come to a solution. In this case, we have a discussion that has reached a conclusion by several users. You can't cling onto some blind, desperate hope that everyone will suddenly change their minds. As someone who has had more than a few proposals be completely shut down, the best advice that I can give you is to accept what the majority of users want and continue contributing from there. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 01:14, 20 July 2017 (EDT)

:It's not even about what-ifs. People's opinions change and will change. It's not that I am pondering about a future that might not ever be, it's about not being immediately so resistant to new ideas. Take some time to think about the idea before immediately responding to it. As we speak, I am thinking about why people want DK games to stay. I just haven't resolved it in my head yet. --{{User:Wildgoosespeeder/sig}} 01:25, 20 July 2017 (EDT)
::You keep talking about people's opinions changing as if it's a guarantee, as if the world will bend over to grant your whims. This is not a new idea: you've talked about this in the past, and one of the proposals I linked to above was from 2011. The users here are not dismissing this because it's a new and frightening idea, they're dismissing it because they've already have plenty of time to mull it over and come to a conclusion. I, myself, have been here for several years, and the issue of keeping the articles is something that I've already thought about in plenty of detail. Let me tell you this bluntly: no, my opinion will not change. Ii can guarantee you that I've thought about this long enough to say that with certainty. You're free to talk about people's opinions changing, but at some, with enough people telling you the same thing, you need to take the time to consider things from their point of view. Besides, what's to stop me from saying that your opinion will change in the future? Your argument works both ways. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 01:38, 20 July 2017 (EDT)

Of course others are going to comment because 1) this conversation isn't exactly private and 2) it's a discussion about making a major change to how the wiki functions. But then your next message went into your usual "Here's what I think we should do" spiel about this subject. I think you are a great editor here, I do, and you have helped out a lot with your image uploads and guidelines. == Big Boo vs. Paper Big Boo ==
I take it you've never played Dark Moon, the Big Boo there was comprised of smaller Boos. And the Big Boo in Sticker Star was called Big Boo. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 03:12, 20 July 2017 (CT)

I notice you are still referring to [[Big Boo (Paper Mario)]] as "Atomic Boo." Why is that? It was Big Boo most recently, in Sticker Star, and Big Boo was always "Atomic Boo" in Japan. Now the reason I find Mega Mole and Morty Mole to be deserving of a split was that their Japanese names are indeed different, as well as the differences in appearance and attacks. It also seems that I may have come off as....intrusive in our first communication, and I'd like to apologize for that. But remember, in a Wiki, anything can be seen and responded to by anyone. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:29, 26 July 2017 (CT)

If memory serves me correctly, the initial merge happened long before Sticker Star. In fact, I'm 95% sure that was the case. Either way, the differences that remain are quite slim, as the whole "being made of smaller Boos" was done with Big Boo in Dark Moon, and attack-wise, most RPG enemies act somewhat differently, such as headbonking Goombas and Boos that turn other enemies invisible. == RE: Uploads Optimizations ==
I use a Mac and I've already tried using ImageOptim before, but it seems way too complicated for me. I've never been good at using these types of programs. Like I have no idea what to enable and what not to enable and I have no idea what most of the settings mean.

Update: I tried using it again today and messed around with the settings, but the image still looks the same even after doing that. {{User:LuigiMaster123/sig}} 01:52, 27 July 2017 (EDT)

== Screenshots ==

So, I now have a way of capturing screenshots (and footage, but that's mostly irrelevant at the moment) from systems before the 3DS and Wii U, with the exception of NES, GBA, and DS. I have obtained a capture card <small><small>or rather, my dad found one in a box</small></small> I can use that snaps a screenshot of the game I am playing, which means the images will be coming directly from the games I own rather than through an emulator. It's not the greatest quality, as you can see [[:File:Endless Stairs.png|here]], but I'm glad I can finally help more with this :)

Now for why I'm here. I know it'd be best if the screens are captured at the system's native resolution. I don't entirely know what those resolutions are, so would you mind letting me know what the resolutions are for SNES, Game Boy/Color, N64, GCN, and Wii images? I may not be able to get the greatest quality, but I want to at least get the image sizes correct (assuming my capture device lets me adjust that, still testing the thing :P). If you want to tell me what the resolutions are for the systems I can't get for future knowledge, that'd be cool, but I mainly what to know about the ones I can do at the moment. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 00:57, 29 July 2017 (EDT)

:I know capture cards usually have terrible quality, but at the moment, that's the best I can do. I hate using emulators, main reason being that emulated games are illegal and they aren't always perfect. If I can get a better method of screen capturing, then I'll use that instead. Thanks for linking me to your page, I'll keep it in mind. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 01:31, 29 July 2017 (EDT)

::I didn't have a save file with enough stars, either. I have my 100% file, but taking the image from that would be redundant as that's not going to show what we needed, so I had to gather some on a different file before I could take the image.
::Emulation is a finicky thing for me. I know emulation itself isn't illegal, but I'd rather stay away from it unless it's official things like Virtual Console. I get that a separate ROM of a game you could be used as a back-up, but it doesn't make sense to me to have a ROM of a game when you already paid money for the legitimate one.
::idk, I'll mull over it some more, but for now, I'd rather not. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 12:04, 29 July 2017 (EDT)

:::I also have only tested the thing on ''Super Mario 64'' so far. I don't know how anything else looks through it, so the quality of the other systems could be good or bad. I'll keep messing with the settings to see if I can get greater quality, already reuploaded the Endless Stairs image to a closer exact resolution. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 15:18, 29 July 2017 (EDT)

"Just make sure your computer can handle GCN/Wii emulation."<br>
^ This is one of my problems, actually. For some reason, my computer can't handle emulation of any kind, even something simple like an NES emulator. Graphics card is fine, it can run more powerful programs like Unity engine. But it says no to emulators. Running my capture card software now just fine, though. idk, maybe I just pull the emulators and ROMs from the wrong place on the internet. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 16:53, 31 July 2017 (EDT)
:I haven't used emulators in a while, but I remember some graphical flicker and audio problems, sometimes not starting up at all. VirtualBoyAdvance seems to be the only working emulator I've used, iirc. All others tend to give me issues. It's just too much of a hassle for me to figure out how to work everything, even if it's something as download the emulator and ROM, then play, 'cause sometimes I have a wrong file format or the emulator just doesn't want to work at all. It's just easier to load the actual game. So, I guess it's not my computer issue, but the fault of the emulator or my lack of knowledge on them. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 17:03, 31 July 2017 (EDT)
::I may not be able to do much with emulation and high-quality images at the moment, but my intention now is to just get the images up. If someone else (like you, for example. I know you're good at this stuff) uploads a better quality image later, then hey, all is good. This is a wiki after all. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 17:32, 31 July 2017 (EDT)
:::And I appreciate the help. I realize how tedious {{tem|image-quality}} can be, but emulators have never been kind to me. I'll see what I can find later, or maybe I can get a better capture card in the future, but for now, this is the best I can do. == Millstone ==

The name "Millstone" specifically comes from the DKC one, where one of the levels featuring them was "Millstone Mayhem." However, as they are all functionally the same, they are a general category article that merits having all of the appearances, particularly as having one official name makes sense to use as basis for the other appearances as opposed to an unrelated conjectural name, IMO. Turner claims that "Roller" came from the Prima guide, but it hasn't been cited. {{User|Doc von Schmeltwick}} 17:34, 31 July 2017 (CT)

== Media ==
Hello! I have just uploaded my first audio file, [[:File:DKCTF Zip-Line Shrine.oga|this one]], and I would like to ask you if everything's alright with it. I made it fade out when it starts looping, as policy dictates, but is it the correct format? I'll upload more later. -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}}
:I understand, and I would have done a List of DKCTF media page myself once I uploaded enough tracks from the game. However, I meant those seven I have already uploaded to be an introduction to the game's soundtrack, a proof of its diversity and immersivity. May I put them back on the main page, after I fill in the newly created one? -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}} Also, [[List of extras in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze#Music|this section]] definitely requires audio tracks, just so you know I'll not let it hangin'.
::Okay, got it. But wouldn't the audio track thumbnail look better in the "Music" section of the level's infobox? I modified the [[Zip-Line Shrine]] article just to demonstrate what I'm saying. Revert my edit if you see it fit. -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}}
:::I guess we use the "song" parameter for tracks that have received titles, such as "Savannah Pop" [[Cannon Canyon|here]] or "Hot Head Bop" [[Red-Hot Ride|here]], among many other examples. We can link them to their respective tracks, if we upload them - however, if they don't have names, then we simply drop the media file in the infobox. Wouldn't look very consistent, but it's better than cluttering the articles with a separate Media section that may contain only one track, or a track that was used in other levels. But that's just, like, my opinion dude. -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}}
::::So, like [https://www.mariowiki.com/index.php?title=Zip-Line_Shrine&diff=2282694&oldid=2282203 this]? Definitely not, it clutters the table. It's a clear trade-off between aspect and more info... Which leads me to think that having a separate media section with the audio track is actually the best solution, practically speaking. Otherwise, the most elegant option seems to be embedding the file itself into the table, as I proposed. -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}}

== RE:Nintendo Switch Screenshot Taking ==

If you're referring to how screenshots are taken and then shared, then yes, the Switch's screenshot taking ability is the same as the Wii U's. For the switch, you just hit the screenshot button and then, just like on the Wii U, you use the Image Share service to post the saved screenshot on social media. (Note that I didn't see Tumblr in the list of websites you could upload on, whereas it was there on Wii U, if that makes any difference.) Some resolution downgrades definitely occur when capturing a screenshot; however, I can't offer you technicalities. Also, I'm not aware of any possibility to take higher quality screenshots, aside from - maybe? - using a capture card... -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}}
:Aaaah, I see what you mean. As of now, you can't post a screenshot without using the image share service, which restricts you to Facebook and Twitter. The browser isn't readily available on the Switch, and AFAIK, even if you access the hidden browser, you can't go beyond the google search results (that is, enter Super Mario Wiki to upload the image there). You may want to note this in your sandbox. -- {{User:Super Radio/Sig}}

Sorry to bother, but you haven't responded to my latest message on the [[MarioWiki:Proposals#What_is_Yume_K.C5.8Dj.C5.8D:_Doki_Doki_Panic.3F|''Yume Kōjō '' proposal]]. I am genuinely interested in hearing your points, especially if I am able to improve my proposal through them. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 12:33, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
:Why do you think that this discussion needs to take months when you have no ideas for what to discuss? Perhaps the situation is not as complicated as you're making it out to be. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 16:24, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
::Again, why do you want to discuss something if you don't know what you're going to discuss? {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 16:28, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
:::A "what-if" scenario is meaningless if you can't come up with one in the first place. ''If'', a few months down the line, an issue comes up, we'll look into it and settle it accordingly. But we can't plan for every scenario. What if the entire site gets taken down? What if numerous pages are irretrievably deleted? What if the world blows up tomorrow? It's easy to come up with thousands of scenarios, but making a plan of attack for every single one of them is an exercise in futility. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 16:35, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
::::What might we lose from this proposal? The topic of to what extent ''Yume Kōjō'' should be covered on the wiki has been brought up before, if the other proposal I cited is any indication, and it's hardly as if nobody has ever heard of the game in the first place. If they don't know enough about the topic, then they would have read the article and perhaps looked up some external sources before casting their vote. What more do you want? What kind of knowledge or deeper insight do they need to acquire that couldn't be obtained just from reading the article? The people here don't need to extensively study democracy and voting standards to participate in a proposal about votes, so I fail to see why it's necessary for this proposal. Not everyone has the ability or the capacity to participate in long, complex discussions, anyways, and the majority of people wouldn't even participate - not to the extent that they would by casting a vote in a proposal, anyways. And again, what is there to discuss? All of the information is already out in the open, and any discussion would mostly be a regurgitation of the facts accompanied by each user's purely personal opinion. By the end of the discussion, it would be unlikely for everyone to come to the same conclusion, and ultimately, it'll be decided by a proposal. Why is this a complicated situation? You constantly bring up concerns, but you've yet to give an adequate explanation for them, only that there's a vague possibility that "something" might go wrong without ever defining what that something is. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 16:58, 18 September 2017 (EDT)
:::::We're not agreeing to disagree if you're still voting against doing anything in regards to my proposal. I'd say that's actively disagreeing. {{User:Time Turner/sig}} 21:19, 18 September 2017 (EDT)

== Emulation ==

Thought I'd get back to you on this and say that I have recently tried to use a Project 64 emulator when I tried to play that SM64 Online mod. Turns out I had the emulator for a while, but it had trouble starting up. After messing with some settings, I then found out I needed the ROM of the original game to play the mod. So I downloaded the ROM, which took for''ever'', as the sites weren't kind to me. Once I was felt I was ready to boot the ROM, I kept encountering vague error messages like "Encountered an exception" and ultimately couldn't get the game to load properly. It ''did'' load, but with graphical errors unsuited to screenshot taking. I also couldn't get the Online mod to work, but that's a different case altogether :P

tl;dr An hour and several error messages later, I decided it wasn't worth it to keep going. Thought I'd tell you I tried to make progress with it, but I'd much rather keep using the capture card I have. At least I know that works. {{User:Alex95/sig}} 14:45, 21 September 2017 (EDT)

Hello. I believe you posted a warning on my page. I'm really sorry. I am super new to this site and am still getting the hang of posting images. I would really like to help expand mariowiki with these images and I guess I need to work on my posting skills. This whole forum/ archive deal is super confusing for me. I apologize if I've done anything wrong.

Okay I'm trying to do what you said but how do I post an image to a specific gallery? I've tried clicking the edit icon on a certain gallery to upload an image but then it still doesn't show up on that page.
== Re: Paper Mario TTYD Screenshots ==
for example, I uploaded these two images because I wanted to add them to Mario's Gallery.

I have a full time job from 8AM-5PM Monday through Friday. Consider me busy almost all the time, but I'll try to check-in from time to time.

I usually reply on the users' talk pages if you don't see my replies on my talk page. If it looks like I don't respond, I do, just in a different spot.

I have decided that archival will happen after every 100th talk section sees a resolution.

Check mark.svg Shouldn't archive (page should contain more than 100,000 characters, which this page has 35,733 at this time).

Re:Uploads are JPEG to PNG[edit]

Hi, my uploads of Paper Mario artwork were PNG to begin with. I got them from the source in the upload description if you want proof, they were already PNG. The only exception is Kooper, because I found the existing JPG artwork looked better and was slightly bigger so my bad on that one. --Fawfulthegreat64Logo.png 16:09, 1 December 2017 (EST)

OK that makes sense. --Fawfulthegreat64Logo.png 16:26, 1 December 2017 (EST)

Can I re-add the artworks that are at least more desirable than the current tiny/small ones? (Peach distress, Goomba King, Kammy etc that obviously weren't copied from the wiki to begin with) --Fawfulthegreat64Logo.png 12:03, 5 December 2017 (EST)

Reverting edits[edit]

Hey. Just to let you know, when someone's done a spate of edits you can actually undo them. Just click onto the page history, go to the last "good" revision, click edit, and then save. It's basically the rollbacking ability we have, just more steps. Yoshi876 (talk)

That sounds like you're just clicking the undo button, what you need to do is click on the timecode for that edit. When you go to edit you should get a message reading "Warning: You are editing an out-of-date revision of this page. If you save it, any changes made since this revision will be lost." Yoshi876 (talk)

Thanks[edit]

Hey, just want to say thanks for helping out with my screenshot qualities. I may have a way of getting higher quality screenshots for NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and GBA through my father's Retron system, but the setup for doing so is rather...convoluted and may not happen any time soon. So, until I'm able to meet policy on my own, thanks for the help. :) Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:43, 20 December 2017 (EST)

Despite possible Retron mistakes, the image quality would be much better than my capture card can produce. The issue is it saves to an SD card, which my computer does not have a slot for. My dad's computer does, though, so maybe I can work things out with him sometime.
The program I am currently using is called Debut Video Capture Software made by the NCH Software company, with my capture card being an AV to USB, if that helps. Not sure which one is the real issue when it comes to quality, or if it's both, but it's easily accessible and my computer can (barely) run it.
While I have no other way of capturing N64, GCN, or Wii footage and screenshots (and I can upload from the Wii U directly), I can use my father's Retron for the NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and GBA screenshots, which the Retron automatically takes at pixel-perfect size, so I'll see what I can do with that when I need to. DS and 3DS is a nope though :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:31, 21 December 2017 (EST)

They're from the Retron I mentioned above. Takes snapshots in the correct size, but sadly, there's no way to change the output file format :( Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 21:02, 16 March 2018 (EDT)

Oh, I guess I've just been saying "Retron" rather than "Retron 5" :P It can play NES, SNES, Famicom, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:14, 17 March 2018 (EDT)

Eagle
Sample

I asked the same Question and someone told me to ask you this question. Ever since Miiverse has shut down, I've lost my work into trying to put in images I post on Miiverse, so I decide on Uploading images taken from my iPhone which was my only way around it (I own an iPhone 4, so the quality shouldn't be too bad). The sample I have is for Mario Golf for the Nintendo 64. I understand if you do not accept, I just really want to help out articles that are in the need for images. RE:SWF JPEG screenshots[edit]

To take screenshots, I put the games on full-screen and use the print screen function. I then paste them in Photoshop and save them for web as JPEG. I don't think it's possible to take screenshots directly from the SWF file, unless I download and use third-party software which I don't want to do. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 18:07, 31 December 2017 (EST)

I think I understand what you are talking about, but I do not have the Flash files (.fla) so that I could access the contents of these games. Only the Adobe Player files (.swf) that run them can be downloaded from the net. Or do you mean there are other official Flash players out there which allow me to take screenshots? I can't find them... -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 06:56, 2 January 2018 (EST)
I'm honestly out of the loop with this. Have merely downloaded and installed a new version of the Flash Player. Now, how do I effortlessly take screenshots on a .swf file? I can neither do it on browser nor on the separate file, unless I use the Print Screen function. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 12:01, 2 January 2018 (EST)
Got it. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I have the time to retake the screenshots, and it's a pretty tedious work at that. Should the image-quality template be put to the existing images? -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 09:41, 3 January 2018 (EST)

Big Steely[edit]

That page no longer covers the Super Mario 64 obstacle; as such, one of the new pages should be used for its info. Probably Iron Ball, as that's also used for various similar objects in Bowser's Inside Story. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:24, 3 January 2018 (EST)

Well that info has been removed from that article like 4 times already, and short article =/= stub. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:38, 3 January 2018 (EST)

RE: Concept Art Category[edit]

Branching it out makes it more convenient for viewers. I can understand wanting to keep them all in one place, but if a user were to look for some concept art, a separate category would save them the trouble of having to sift through hundreds of pre-release/unused content images. Rosalina costume pose in Super Mario Maker Mario JC 03:29, 18 January 2018 (EST)

I wouldn't be opposed to splitting the pre-release and unused content images, and if there are any overlaps as you mentioned (pre-release content found unused in the game), both categories can be included on the file page; if there are too many overlaps, though, then it's probably not worth splitting them. Considering we have Category:Fair use art and not "Fair use art images" (which seems a bit redundant), I don't think renaming Category:Concept art is really necessary. NSMB sprites[edit]

I noticed you posted an image quality template on the New Super Mario Bros gallery, mentioning to use a certain editor to rip the spirtes. I've been messing around with it, but can't seem to find a way to do so. OK. Do you have Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars on the 3DS? I know you have a method to capture screenshots. Is it possible that you would upload the maps of these levels as they appear on the level select screen? (So, the top screen of the console.) I missed the chance to do this myself when Miiverse was shut down. Levels in the Wii U version have slightly different layouts, but I might cover those in the future. Re:Thorny Flower[edit]

There were giant ones in the King Kaliente mission of the Good Egg Galaxy and the Sun-Baked Sand Castle mission of Dusty Dune that contained launch stars. And of course, there's still the third flying variation... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:38, 9 March 2018 (EST)

All I have to work with are YouTube videos, as I only have the game on console, and at home specifically. But I suppose that may be possible. I'm just glad there are videos recent enough to be in an acceptable picture quality, it was LP'd like crazy back in the day. Anyways, I probably can, but schoolwork must come first. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:37, 9 March 2018 (EST)
I do actually have a picture of Mario next to the small, non-Mini Wanwan from the King Kaliente mission, and I may upload it as well. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:39, 9 March 2018 (EST)
I'm not talking about Mini Wanwan, I'm talking about the smaller-than-normal Chomp variety found only on the saucer planet in the Good Egg Galaxy, which is still larger than Mini Wanwan. It's about Mario's height. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:08, 9 March 2018 (EST)
I don't know. They only appear once and act exactly like regular Chomps, and they've been acknowledged on the Chomp page for quite some time. I suppose its worth noting they're about the size of the Chain Chomps found in most sidescrollers and later 3D games.... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:24, 9 March 2018 (EST)

Reddit[edit]

Everything on that page is a fan creation. Unless you plan to delete it entirely, there's no reason to single out Reddit. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:19, 10 March 2018 (EST)

It's a more informal page, used for collecting the miscellaneous odds-and-ends of the Internet without it encroaching on the rest of the wiki. None of the "List of references" pages have any set policies for notability, and for the moment, I'm fine with that. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:27, 10 March 2018 (EST)
And Reddit is neither of those things. The sentence is directed at fan projects like Super Mario Bros. Z or any old Let's Play, presumably to quell the tide of easy-to-make YouTube videos. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:30, 10 March 2018 (EST)
When I think of a "reference", a single "small nod" is far from the only think that I think of. That'd entirely limit games like The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening from being discussed here, and even if you want to exclude links to the Mario-based subreddits, that has nothing to do with singular posts on other, non Mario-related subreddits. Also, the fallacy is using the slippery slope as a legitimate argument. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 16:42, 10 March 2018 (EST)

MechaKoopas[edit]

Might I ask why you changed the SMG Mechakoopa image to have pre-release tags? I on't see anything out-of place, myself, just looks like a "theatrical" camera angle that a site like IGN would use for screenshots, similar to the Torpedo Ted picture. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:29, 27 March 2018 (EDT)

By the way, a pipe actually does appear in that segment if you fall, there's one on one of the feet. Can't remember how high it comes out though.... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 04:52, 28 March 2018 (EDT)

Test templates[edit]

Hey, I get you were trying to test something with transclusion, but making a template just for it to be deleted is something you shouldn't do. If you need to test transclusion with something, you can use one of your subpages and transclude that, but creating a test template is just unnecessary. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:08, 30 March 2018 (EDT)

Yeah, no, you don't create something just for it to be deleted. That just creates extra work and is, again, unnecessary. You don't need to create a new subpage for testing, just add something to one of your (several) subpages momentarily. Once you've accomplished what you wanted, just remove the code or place it elsewhere. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:20, 30 March 2018 (EDT)
"Modifying my existing userpages was undesirable" Better than making a page marked for deletion from its creation. Record deletion shouldn't be the determining factor here. A few test edits are fine. Creating a new page intended to be deleted from the start is not. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:39, 30 March 2018 (EDT)

CMYK[edit]

Are you sure your CMYK (conversion) uploads are right? They're all REALLY oversaturated, moreso than could ever print. - Reboot (talk) 05:21, 31 March 2018 (EDT)

{{NIWA}}[edit]

The context is clear from the template itself: "X's page on other NIWA wikis". No page, no link. - Reboot (talk) 13:47, 3 April 2018 (EDT) Also, it takes at least two to edit war. Kinda rich for the other guy "warring" to tell the other guy to lay off in the edit summary... - Reboot (talk) 13:49, 3 April 2018 (EDT)

Helicopter "Yoshi"[edit]

I decided to mark it for deletion. For one, because of Yoshi876's rationale to delete the respective BJAODN entry. For two, I have no use for the image outside of the context. "The things I do for love!" -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 11:19, 4 April 2018 (EDT)

Though it's strange that these things were given a pass even though they're clearly acts of vandalism. Nobody could have mistakenly figured Hitler or Korto Momolu are in Mario Kart Wii.But the first rule of BJAODN specifically prohibits vandalism that is immature/otherwise not funny, and these, well, these gave me a chortle. Nevermind, I just read the third rule.-- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 11:32, 4 April 2018 (EDT)
I do not wish to insist. April Fools is a time when things have to be kept under control. Yoshi876 implied that April Fools vandalism, however funny, is an exception from BJAODN because everyone can use that time as an excuse to add jokes on pages. -- -- KOOPA CON CARNE 11:54, 4 April 2018 (EDT)

160px[edit]

Why do you keep adding |160px to images which are already 160px wide and so displays as such? - Reboot (talk) 10:18, 9 April 2018 (EDT)

[edit]

What was so bad about the transparency on it? I checked it in Paint.net, there are no extraneous patches of opacity, and it is cut to the edges surprisingly clean.... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:10, 14 April 2018 (EDT)

How about the transparency used in the texture on the actual title screen? Suppose that'd be lower-res though....anyways yeah, Paint.net's wand tool with tolerance set to zero shows nothing. Unless you mean the edges of the words? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:25, 14 April 2018 (EDT)
Huh, I figured that would have been of the Textures Resource, guess that's why I never found it.... Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:29, 14 April 2018 (EDT)

-sigh-[edit]

I've said it before, I'll say it again if need be >.< . The English instruction manual is not the only source for Rocky Wrench. The various Shogakukan books referred to them specifically as being within the Kame-zoku, which means not "turtle," but "Turtle Tribe," which is the same term they use in the JP instruction manual for SMB1 in reference to what the English manual calls "the Koopa." Ergo, they were indisputably Koopas back then, and saying "nuh-uh they're just turtles saying they're Koopas is fancruft" when specific evidence is presented to you is just not OK. Aaaaanyways, how can Monty Mole have been the parent species? You said that Rocky was simply "revealed" first. The problem is, this hinges on the idea that Nintendo had already come up with Monty Moles before development of SMB3, despite there being no evidence to support this and the fact that Rockies were Koopas then indicating that no, they hadn't come up with them then. Furthermore, Rocky Wrench still has the less specific Japanese name. I really don't see why people don't like this idea. It makes the most sense from a design history perspective. And sorry if this comes off as unnecessarily rude, but I despise having to explain the same thing seven times. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:44, 15 April 2018 (EDT)

The only reason I PM'd you is that you seem to have not seen my explaining this multiple times, and I wanted to make sure you actually saw it. The term "Koopa" was initially used as a direct translation of "Kame-Zoku" in the SMB1 instruction manual, and ergo, they are literally synonymous, as "Koopa" was used as a translation for that. So it's not just generic turtles. It's Koopas specifically. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:03, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
Why did you say a Hammer Bro is a kind of Troopa? Are you trying to make me burst a blood vessel? That's not nice....but anyways, I don't think Bazuka is a kind of Kobble, and that's fairly comparable to this comparison. Not all Koopas are Troopas, as Troopas are a specific subgroup. Spinies are Koopas, but they certainly aren't Troopas. Please, just....have mercy, that outright causes me physical pain to see people do that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:16, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
Sorry, as a hobbyist biologist, I really don't like it when people misclassify things. Especially Koopas, as I like Koopas, see? And I am truthful when I saw that it causes my blood vessels to fluctuate in pressure dangerously when I see that, not out of anger, but mostly out of that cringe-feeling, you know? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:26, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
I am curious as to what ground you have to say that Rocky Wrench was based off of Monty Mole 3 years before there were Monty Moles. Do you perhaps have some scans of old idea documents for SMB3 featuring unimplemented Monty Moles? I know you've seen and worked with many of the images on this wiki, so I'm legitimately curious about that. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:30, 15 April 2018 (EDT)
OK, this might get a little sappy, be warned. Mariowiki has been a huge facet of my life for about 10 years now, and even though I didn't join until a bit less than a year ago, it's always been one of my favorite sites. Getting to work on it now that I have good stronger internet access is still so amazing to me, and I wouldn't abandon this place no matter what, no matter how tempted I may sometimes get. I just kinda love this place, and just want it to be the best that it can be. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 02:35, 15 April 2018 (EDT)

Though I noticed that you uploaded a new version of the audio file with lower audio quality from the supposed 64DD emulator, but is there any other way you could convert the YouTube video I converted to the appropriate Super Mario Wiki playable format instead? I don't mean to bug you, it's just that I choose that particular YouTube video as it was a higher quality boot sound than most I could find, including your audio upload.--Jjrapper100 (talk) 13:34, 3 May 2018 (EDT)

Well, thanks for telling me as for why MP3 files can't be used. But that blows, since the said YouTube video had a higher quality of the Nintendo 64DD's boot menu sound than your audio upload is all, so I guess we'll leave it at your current audio upload then. --Jjrapper100 (talk) 08:42, 5 May 2018 (EDT)

Merlar Sprite[edit]

Not that Paper Mario savvy, bu File:MerlarSprite.gif and File:PM Madam Merlar.png look like two different images. Does Merlar look like both of these in the game? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:09, 20 May 2018 (EDT)

Ah, I see. A transparent sprite doesn't actually exist. Alright, thanks for the explanation! Is it possible you can provide the requested reupload, though? Looks like the fake image has been around for ~12 years, so it needs an update :P Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:19, 20 May 2018 (EDT)

Is this allowed?[edit]

From what I can tell, you're the most knowledgeable on this subject, so I was wondering if the way thisMedia:Tutankhamun idol.jpg image was edited is within policy, because I didn't think it was. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:27, 24 May 2018 (EDT)

It's exactly the same as the previous revision, but with the contrast adjusted, it would seem. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:36, 24 May 2018 (EDT)

Upscaled Images[edit]

What is wrong with using upscaled images? One could always resize them? I made them large so A) people can see them more easily and B) flexibility on resizing. DarkFireYoshi (talk) 14:45, 11 July 2018 (EDT)

Yoshi's New Island quality[edit]

Since you reuploaded the metallic Lantern Ghost picture, you specified which quality it was. You may know which quality uses Frenetic Gamer in his walkthroughs. What quality is that? --FanOfYoshi (talk) 10:05, 4 September 2018 (EDT)

Dkc 3 glitch wording[edit]

Hello, I found a small glitch a while back that I made a video of on Youtube on my Mirage account. My problem is I'm not exactly 100% sure on how to word it in the List of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! glitches page. It requires getting the Gyrocopter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78ycf9ITVX0 Could you help me with this if possible? --Mirage6485 (talk · edits) 15:02, April 15, 2019 (EDT)

Ring planet lava image[edit]

Hi, part of that image's purpose was illustrating the fireballs flying around the planet on the enemies/obstacles section of the main SMG page, so it needs a replacement since your version lacks them. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 01:00, April 17, 2019 (EDT)

Gameboy emulators[edit]

All of your listed Game Boy emulators require a download. Is there any good online GB emulators that do not require a download for images? Thanks. Doomhiker (talk)Artwork of a Topmini from Super Mario Galaxy 16:20, April 17, 2019 (EDT)

Re: Dolphin Emulator Tips and Tricks[edit]

So we're allowed to take upscaled GameCube and Wii screenshots? I took your advice and did Auto (multiple) and fullscreen, and I took File:New Super Mario Bros. Wii Title Screen.png. How does it look? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 18:12, April 18, 2019 (EDT)

What's the native resolution for New Super Mario Bros. Wii? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 18:38, April 18, 2019 (EDT)
I can't seem to get the window at 640 × 456 for widescreen. Will I have to switch to 4:3? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 18:48, April 18, 2019 (EDT)
Okay, I set it to "stretch" and I retook this screenshot. Is this right? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 08:43, April 19, 2019 (EDT)

Using your new and improved method, I retook this screenshot once again. Does it look right? Can I reupload other screenshots like this? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 18:44, May 7, 2019 (EDT)

Ah, I didn't know that widescreen made a difference for internal resolution frame dumps. I have changed the resolution to force 4:3 and redid the screenshot once again. Is it good? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 18:59, May 7, 2019 (EDT)
Oh, I was using the wrong aspect ratio setting. I have fixed this, but now the screenshot is letterboxed. Is this supposed to happen? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 19:09, May 7, 2019 (EDT)

I'm trying to take Mario Party 7 screenshots, but it's forced to 640x524. Stretching the window doesn't change this. Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 20:54, May 7, 2019 (EDT)

Thank you for solving my Mario Party 7 problem. As for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, should I keep taking screenshots of the game with the letterboxing? Should I crop out the black bars? Scrooge200 (talk) PMCS Mustard Cafe Sign.png 21:13, May 7, 2019 (EDT)

Bye there[edit]

Good luck with everything. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:53, April 23, 2019 (EDT)

Beach Bowl Images[edit]

You can't see the ocean floor in this image, but you can here. I remember being able to see through the water, so is the first an emulator glitch? Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 11:29, May 10, 2019 (EDT)

Ah, okay. Thanks for the explanation ^^ Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:10, May 10, 2019 (EDT)
Do you have an HD Capture Card of some kind to use? I know that would require actually having the game (*gasp*), but you wouldn't run into any graphical errors caused by an emulator. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:28, May 10, 2019 (EDT)
Yeah, they are expensive... Otherwise, I'd be able to use one myself >_< Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 22:45, May 10, 2019 (EDT)

Smiley Bomb[edit]

Hi, would you mind applying PNG Monstrous to File:Smiley Bomb.png? The reason I ask is because there was a 'Shroom Spotlight for it about seven-and-a-half months ago. Thanks! Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 13:27, May 20, 2019 (EDT)

Image metadata[edit]

Hello, I wrote a draft in my sandbox for a help/policy page to explain the technical details of PNG color metadata and optimization as part of Trig Jegman (talk)'s recent proposal. If you have time, could you check if there are any additional details I should include or inaccuracies I should fix? --Super Mario Fan 67 (TCS) 16:43, February 25, 2020 (EST)

Noki Image Quality[edit]

Yesterday I created a Gallery for the Noki Page and added several screenshots of the different NPC variations from Super Mario Sunshine, however I've been a bit worried with my work since all my screenshots come from a capture card. GoombaBroadcast (talk) 10:09, July 13, 2020 (EDT)

They will need a better capture eventually. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) (Stats - Contribs) 23:16, July 14, 2020 (EDT)
Would replacing the Noki images I added with screenshots from Sunshine in 3D All Stars be acceptable? GoombaBroadcast (talk) 10:10, September 4, 2020 (EDT)

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 Players Choice cover[edit]

--Hello, I have a higher quality image of the Players Choice rerelease for Wario Land Super Mario Land 3. If possible, could you replace the low quality image with this one? Thank you.

A higher quality version of the box art of the Player's Choice re-release of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 for the Game Boy

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out myself. Thank you.
