Does anyone think that articles about Booster's henchmen Snifits, Snifit #1, Snifit #2 and Snifit #3 could be made, I would think there'd be enough information on them to warrant an article, as they appear in Moleville, Booster Tower, Booster Hill, Marrymore and those little cinemas you see when you look into the balcony of Booster Tower later in the game. -- Sir Grodus

Number 4 is not actually the Apprentice. If you lose to the Apprentice, it becomes #4. If you lose to another Apprentice, it becomes #5. I actually thinks this goes on to #6 or #7 (I forget). The next Apprentice in line gets rejected, as Booster already has so many Snifits. -- Son of Suns

Sub-Species

Should we have so much info on Snifit's sub-species in thwe article? It seems to have no information about snifits, just it's subs..... - Ultimatetoad

Sub-species deserve a mention in the game they appear in (as done in the Goomba article) with some minor info on them. However, detailed information should be in the sub-species article. -- Son of Suns

Er, I'm about to edit this out, as it gives nothing to the article, its probably fanon, and its poorly written. For anyone who wants to put it back in, or reword it, here it is:

* There are some thoughts that says that under the mask Shy Guys and related species are actually human.

New Article

There are lots of sub-species that all have their own, tiny articles. I was thinking of combining all of the sub-species into a big article so there weren't so many small waste of space articles. Are they Shy Guys?

I guess this is following on from the Bandit proposal. How are Snifits related to Shy Guys? No Guy at the end, no sign of a hei-ho in the Japanese name. Forgive me if I'm wrong or if I missed something. (T · C) 15:47, 3 June 2015 (EDT)

As has been said in many other places, but not as much here, strangely, it's because they have the same basic stats (I think?) and the exact same Japanese name. Split

So, seeing as how the "Snifits" in Super Mario RPG have black robes, different stats, and are called ブッカー (Bukkā) instead of ムーチョ (Mūcho), shouldn't they be split considering how we handled other clearly misnamed enemies in that game? Who has lost his tail? 02:59, April 1, 2019 (EDT)

Host Snift

Shouldn't there be an article for the host Snifit from Sticker Star and Color Splash that hosts Snifit or Whiffit get his own article? --Magma. (talk) 20:18, July 22, 2020 (EDT)

I'm not exactly familiar with when we should use game titles as distinguishers, but "Snifit (Paper Mario series)" could be a consideration. Maybe even "Host Snifit", if the Color Splash screenshot is anything to go by. MarioComix (talk) 22:57, July 22, 2020 (EDT)

We don't call Mario "Contestant Mario", so I think "Host" is the title in this case. The French translation makes it more clear that it's a title (it reads "Animateur: Maskrache"). "Host" isn't capitalized in dialogue, either. Scrooge200 (talk) 00:42, July 23, 2020 (EDT)

Resemblance to Sturm

I was thinking, maybe we should add a small tidbit in trivia that Sturm's Advance Wars (1) design resembles a Snifit? It was mentioned in the Sturm article in the Advance Wars fandom wiki, so I was thinking maybe we should mention it hee? Relation to Shy-Guys

(NOTE: I am not saying we should consider them to be NOT related.)

Ok, so I'm aware that Snifits are literally Shy Guys with a different mask, but I just want to put an idea on the table:

• Usually when an enemy is meant to be a variant of another enemy, their Japanese name is based on them. The Japanese names for Shy Guy and Snifit are Hei-ho and Mu-cho respectively, with the former being an anagram and the latter being Subcon + Military leader. Bandit's Japanese name is also different from Shy Guy, but Bandit was confirmed to be a Shy Guy enemy in Minion Quest.
• Usually when an enemy is meant to be a variant of another enemy, there's some sort of bio saying they are. As far as I can see:
  • Most bios talk about how shy Shy Guys are and how Snifits shoot bullets without mentioning their connection
  • SSBM Does have a list of things Shy Guys have done, but it doesn't seem to bring up Snifits(The closest is "throw balls", but that's most likely Green Glove).
  • Mario Party Superstars is the only time AFAIK that there's a bio about Snifit's relation to Shy Guys, but it's basically saying "They look similar to Shy Guys but they're differentiated by their masks", not "These are Shy Guys with different masks". A subtle difference, sure, but I believe it's an important one.
  • The original SMB2 that they both originated in doesn't say anything about their relation. Note how it does mention the Shy Guy relation for Beezo and "Birdo".
  • The Island Museum In Yoshi's Island DS doesn't list the only kind of Snifit that appears in the game as a "Shy Guy Enemy", but rather a "Subterranean Enemy".
  • As Doc has informed me, Minion Quest lists the variants of Snifits separate from the Variant of Shy Guy.
• Usually when an enemy is meant to be a variant of another enemy, they have a similar appearance. In this case, Shy Guy and Snifit are literally the same design with a mask swap(but bear with me for a second longer please).

Now with this in mind, I want to say a few more things:

• Snifits and Shy Guys use the same voice clips in a number of appearances.
• In TOK, one particular Snifit who is facing a wall says if Mario mistook him for a Shy Guy(as Swallow told me).
• Snifit and Shy Guy debuted in the same game(SMB2) and one didn't seem to be more prominent than the other in SMB2.
• In Color Splash, Snifits and Shy Guys had variants that paralleled each-other.
• The Japanese names might actually be similar to eachother, as Heiho is an anagram of the Japanese writing of "Foot Soldier", and Mucho means "Subcon Military Leader", so there could be a similar name intent. And with everything else I said above, I'd say it's definite that they're super closely related, but it's likely that Shy Guy wasn't meant to be the parent species(If anything, Snifit had more prominence in SMB2).

I might be grasping at straws, and I might be ignoring some overlooked-but-important source confirming Shy Guy is the parent species of Snifit, but might it be possible that Shy Guy and Snifit were originally parallels of the same "robe-wearing dream soldier" type enemy and Shy Guy just became more prominent than Snifit did, instead of Snifit being made as a variant of Shy Guy? (I am not asking for a merge or a split or anything like that, I'm just talking about both species' relations to each other.) Somethingone (talk) 20:59, February 10, 2022 (EST)

I should point out that the only type of Snifit Minion Quest has is the Ice Snifit, which is an enemy that only appears in Superstar Saga and is not a recruitable ally. Nightwicked Bowser 21:19, February 10, 2022 (EST)

I'd personally find it a little strange if Bandit was considered a derivative of Shy Guy while Snifit wasn't, given that Bandit arguably has a bigger design divergence (also note that it isn't in the Island Museum's Shy Guy exhibit either), but considering that recent statements resemble what's been stated about the Goomba and Galoomba difference, we may have to just work with what we have. I do want to add that I have the 1987 Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic guide by Futabasha, and it has the following description for Snifit - Red (ムーチョ赤) on page 19: 「ヘイホー族とは親戚同士の間柄だ。ヘイホーよりも仕末が悪いのは、お面の口からイマジン君たちにむけて悪夢の弾を射ってくることだ。」 or basically (Close relatives of the Shy Guys. Even worse than Shy Guys, their mask's mouth shoots the bullets of evil dreams at Imajin and co.). While it seems to predate the Shogakukan line of guides, I think we can consider it an official source since it also seems to be the first named appearance of Flurry (ナカボン), Spark (スパック), and Tweeter (リートン), who were missing in the original manual (incidentally, page 23 also refers to Tweeter as...ducklike (アヒルなど)?). This suggests that they should be considered "relatives" at minimum. There's also Perfect Ban Mario Character Daijiten, which here refers to Snifit as a "power-up" version of Shy Guy - the same term the book uses for others such as Fire Bro, which we consider a derivative of Hammer Bro. Spookum Localisation Names? (Super Mario RPG)

Where should the localisation names of Spookum be put in the Snifit article, considering the enemy is combined together with the general Snifit page?

For reference: the Dutch localisation decided to name it Cadet, referring to the rank given to students in the military because they are weaker than a regular Snifit within the ranks of Booster's minions. TopHatHipster (talk) 09:21, December 31, 2023 (EST)
