The competitors must cross an obstacle course placed in the sky, trying not to lose their three lives. If the player falls off the course, than they will be brought back up to a random point inside a bubble, but only as long as they have heart points left. Every platform caught at the back of the screen will fall off, along with any player caught on it at the time. The first area contain spinning disk-like platforms. Soon after, the players must cross spinning block formations. Then, they must cross many bouncy clouds and rotating platforms, until they reach the goal, a small, grassy platform with the numbers one through four inscribed upon it. The first player to reach the goal wins.

In Perspective Change mode, the camera's angle changes to view the player from a third-person viewpoint. The player also only has one chance to get across, instead of having three hearts.
The first area contains many rotating circular platforms, with the second area containing a set of plus- and T-shaped blocks, some of which rotate as well. The third and final section has bouncy clouds and rotating platforms that lead to the goal platform. The first player to reach it wins.

Skyjinks is a Free-for-All minigame in Mario Party 9. The name is a portmanteau of "sky" and "hijinks."

Introduction[edit]

The introduction to Skyjinks

The players are seen jumping on platforms. Landing on wooden boards, the characters stop, and the minigame begins.

Gameplay[edit]

The players must travel through an auto-scrolling obstacle course in the sky without falling off the course. A player who falls loses one of three hearts, is placed inside a bubble, and is brought back onto the course at a random point. A player is eliminated if they fall with no hearts remaining. As the players proceed along the course, the platforms toward the back fall offscreen.

The first area contains many rotating circular platforms, with the second area containing a set of plus- and T-shaped blocks, some of which rotate as well. The third and final section has bouncy clouds and rotating platforms that lead to the goal platform. The first player to reach it wins.

In Perspective Mode, the camera is in "tracking" mode behind the player, and the screen does not automatically scroll. Additionally, players are immediately eliminated if they fall off the course.

Ending[edit]

Two endings can occur: The last player remaining may fall off and lose their last life but still win, or, if the player manages to reach the end, the players in first, second, and third do victory poses while the player in fourth just stands idly.
