King Boo's Puzzle Attack is a boss minigame in Mario Party 9.

Introduction[edit]

The camera zooms in on a window outside the tower. The view then enters the tower, where King Boo appears and laughs, and then the items fall from above, followed by the cursors appearing.

Gameplay[edit]

The game involves the players trying to line up three or more of the same item to deal damage to King Boo (similar to Bejeweled). The items include Green Shells, Red Shells, Ice Flowers, Fire Flowers, and lightning bolts. All items are worth one point each except for lightning bolts, which give the player ten points and take three points away from the opponents. After losing half his health, King Boo sends a Boo in the playing field to temporarily stun any player's cursor that makes contact with it. Players whose cursors get caught by Boos must shake their Wii Remotes to break free (although lightning bolts can destroy Boos as well). The player who lands the final attack gets an additional ten points. Whoever has the most points is declared the winner. If five minutes pass and King Boo has not been defeated, the minigame ends in a draw.

Ending[edit]

King Boo spins and disappears, disappointed, and several Mini Stars appear in Party Mode and Solo Mode.

Trivia[edit]

  • This is the only boss minigame in Mario Party 9 to give a final attack that is not worth three points; instead, it is worth ten points. It is also the only boss minigame in Mario Party 9 to have a score tally up to 999 points, as the number of points is shown in three digits, like in Pit or Platter.
  • In the background, there are candles with blue flames, which become red when King Boo gets angry. After he is defeated, the flames go out. This also occurs in Mega Dry Bones's Femur Fever in Mario Party: Star Rush.
