Shifting Platforms Ahead is level 5-7 of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3. As the name implies, it consists on jumping from platform to platform in order to avoid falling into the bottomless pit below. This level's playable Yoshi is the red Yoshi.

Overview[edit]

Red Yoshi will start near a Bumpty, and he will have to go to the left, where he will find several platforms moving around, allowing him to across a huge pit. Yoshi will find falling stone blocks and Ravens walking around floating spheres. Yoshi must dodge all these obstacles, while using platforms to get across the level. He will eventually find Tap-Taps jumping in tiny circular platforms, which can be destroyed with eggs.

Next, Yoshi will find a Warp Pipe, and he must ride a Goonie to reach it. This pipe leads to a bonus area, where he can collect a lot of coins, and a Special Flower, while jumping on falling platforms. He can also use a ! Switch to cause blocks to appear and form a bridge over spikes, allowing him to collect more coins. If Yoshi chooses to ignore the Warp Pipe leading to this bonus, he will find more Goonies, and he will have to ride a paddle wheel to reach a Flatbed Ferry. Yoshi will ride many yellow and red platforms, avoiding the Ravens, Goonies, and occasional Tap-Taps and Bumpties. Unfortunately, Yoshi will also have to jump over various falling platforms that gets into his way.

After this, Yoshi will cross a large area, first passing through a cloud where Baron von Zeppelins carry Shy-Guys and a crate, and then using platforms to cross an area with Ravens and a pipe leading to the second part of the stage. Here, Yoshi will have to defeat a Wild Ptooie Piranha blocking the way by shooting eggs at it while on a platform. After this, Yoshi can destroy a large wall of blue blocks with eggs to uncover a hidden Special Flower. Entering the pipe, Yoshi will find a Middle Ring, and will have to cross a large area filled with many falling platforms and Bumpties, avoiding the pit at all costs. There are two Special Flowers in this part. Yoshi will find the Goal Ring right after a Turtle Cannon shooting Bullet Bills.
