The protagonists first interact with Chompasauruses in [[Fruity Factory]], the third level of Juicy Jungle. Since then, the creatures begin to show up in more areas of this island. However, a single Chompasaurus makes a cameo appearance right before Fruity Factory, at the end of [[Reckless Ride]]. Here, it comes out in the background to devour the defeated [[Speedy Tuck]], who has previously tried to hinder the Kongs with his enormous robot in the same level.

Chompasauruses[1] are carnivorous plant enemies inhabiting the Juicy Jungle in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its Nintendo Switch port. They look very similar to the Chomps of Donkey Kong Country Returns due to their spotted, ball-shaped heads, slit by very large mouths arranged with inconsistent rows of sharp teeth. Apart from these traits, a Chompasaurus displays a mane of blade-shaped leaves, pointing backwards, surrounding its head. Chompasauruses walk using a set of bent tentacles arranged disorderly around their short bodies. Chompasauruses are colored in gradients of green, with their leaves and tentacles being more light-colored than the rest of their bodies, though their concept artwork depicts them with violet coloration on their skin.

Chompasauruses are capable of moving on the ground and ceilings alike. If one of them spots the Kongs on the same path or on a perpendicular direction, it lashes its long tongue, trying to grab the Kongs and bring them inside its mouth. Once there, the Ground Pound button should be pressed repeatedly to make the Kongs beat the plant from inside out and defeat it, freeing themselves. However, if this is not done on time or done insufficiently, the Kongs will end up losing heart points as the enemy slowly chomps on them. The Kongs can also get hurt if they touch a Chompasaurus from the left, right, or bottom side without performing any attack. Ground Chompasauruses perish if attacked with three stomps, three Roll Attacks, or if hit with a throwable object, such as a barrel. Chompasauruses that stick to the ceilings are unreachable with stomps or rolls and can only be defeated with a projectile.

Chompasauruses are first encountered in Fruity Factory, not counting the one Chompasaurus appearing at the end of Reckless Ride right beforehand; here, the Chompasaurus comes out in the background to consume the defeated Speedy Tucks, who has previously tried to hinder the Kongs with his enormous robot in the same level.
