Bumpers[1] are items from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise that knock the player back after contact with it. These items make one appearance in the Super Mario franchise within the game Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 during both the Tower Climb and Tokyo Sky Flight minigames found in the Story Mode and the Game Room. In Tower Climb, Bumpers are used as springs to help Tails jump higher. In Tokyo Sky Flight, Bumpers are used as shields used by enemies to deflect shots fired by the Tornado.
