Spring Mario is one of Mario's forms in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. In both games, he is able to transform into it by collecting a Spring Mushroom. In Super Mario Galaxy, the form first appears in the Toy Time Galaxy, and later in Matter Splatter Galaxy and Beach Bowl Galaxy (only in the Purple Coin mission "Beachcombing for Purple Coins"). As Spring Mario, Mario is able to jump higher but cannot run or spin. Instead, he perpetually bounces off the ground, making him harder to control and more prone to falling off edges or into hazardous places. Using this form, Mario is able to bounce very high to reach hidden items and areas by pressing A Button upon touching the ground. He is also granted the ability to climb very steep inclines in a slinky-like fashion, and retains his Ground Pound as well. If Mario takes damage, touches water, or enters a Launch Star or Sling Star, the form is lost.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, the Spring Mario form returns, behaving the same as it does in the previous game and making its only appearance in the "Spring into the Chompworks" mission of Chompworks Galaxy.

Many of the locations Spring Mario is intended to be used can be circumnavigated via sequences of Somersaults, Wall Jumps, and spins; in fact, it is possible to collect every Power Star (including Green Stars) in Super Mario Galaxy 2 without once making use of Spring Mario.

In Wario Land II, Wario Land 3 and Wario Land 4, Wario possesses a similar form known as Bouncy Wario.

  • Trading card: BOING! Here comes Spring Mario after he grabs a Spring Mushroom in the Toy Time Galaxy. Use the fun Mario transformation to jump higher than ever before - and jump jump everywhere for that matter (Mario can't run as Spring Mario). Using the Spring Mushroom, Mario will be able to find hidden items in the air and climb steep levels with ease.

Boingee boingee boingee... It's Spring Mario, bouncing along and having a grand time! Just get a Spring Mushroom, and then press the A Button right when you land for a super-high jump! If you have a fear of heights, though, there's nothing wrong with staying in place and just bouncing a little. (American English)
Boing! Sproing! Mario's turned into a spring! One touch of a Spring Mushroom and he becomes Spring Mario. He'll bounce SUPER high if you press the A Button right when he lands. Doesn't it make you feel like just bouncing on the spot? Boing, boing, boing... (British English)
