Coin Mario is an original transformation that appears in chapter 8 of Super Mario-kun volume 5.
While fighting against some very powerful Monty Moles, Mario is tossed near a ? Block. Hoping to find a power-up inside of it, Mario hits it, but only a coin pops out from the block. While Mario complains, the gleam emitted by the coins blinds the Monty Moles. Mario then attaches the coin to himself and asks Luigi to pass him more coins, becoming Coin Mario and emitting so much brightness that it blinds and defeats the Monty Moles.
