It is explicitly stated that KP Koopas have the same abilities as normal Koopa Troopas, and they differ merely in coloration.
Their appearance in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door are yellow-shelled Koopas. Yellow-shelled Koopas, however, have appeared in the earlier title, Super Mario World. As the Gold Star, KP Koopas are called "Gold Koopas" in French; whereas, they are never referred to having yellow shells in any version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
