Spike Koopas are short Koopa Troopas found in Mario Party. Spike Koopas are possibly one of the most obscure species in the Mario series. They are found exclusively in the mini-game Key-pa-Way. Their role is to prevent all four characters from unlocking the door to the Treasure Chest. If a character comes in contact with one, he or she will be stunned or drop the Bowser Key. Luckily, they can be easily avoided by jumping and tossing the Bowser Key.
They are probably minions of Bowser as they are seen guarding the Bowser Key. In the mini-game, there is also a barrel with Bowser's head stamp in front of the locked door, indicating the Spike Koopa are protecting Bowser's stash. Spike Koopas have purple, spiky shells and are small, making them probable close relatives of the Spiny.
