The 'Shroom:Issue 104/Pipe Plaza
Director’s Notes
Hello 'Shroom readers! This is Issue 104, my post-holiday issue. Yes, for most of this month I've been sunning it up in Florida and then I return to the swamps of rain England where I'm then promptly swamped in quality sections for you readers.
Banjo and Gutseh have returned with their Late Night Interviews for you, and whilst this edition should feature an Upcoming Games, Paper Yoshi was unfortunately unable to do so because of exams. But don't worry, he has assured me that it will be present in the next issue for you!

Tip of the Month
The holidays are full of brand new game releases! But you have to remember to take unconfirmed information with a grain of salt. If Nintendo hasn't said "this feature is definitely in our new game!", you shouldn't write an article claiming that it truly is. Mark a new game's page with this template: {{upcoming}}, and be SURE to cite your sources, too, so others can check them out.
Poll Committee Discussion
New Spots Available!
Packy is not available, so as his second-in-command, I shall be taking over Poll Committee Discussion this month. We have some very important information this month to share.
A spot has just opened up in the Poll Committee. Additionally, we have decided that because we are now publishing polls once every week, we have added two spots to manage the faster pace. This means we have three spots open, and we welcome applications from anyone.
Applications are simple: just Personal Message me on Super Mario Boards a paragraph on why you would be a good committee member, along with a sample poll you made. Before applying for the Poll Committee, though, you consider meeting the following requirements.
- First and foremost, you must be very active. At the pace of one poll a week, it is absolutely crucial that our members check at least once every three days. Too many times have we fired members due to inactiveness.
- You must have an account on Super Mario Boards. The Poll Committee discussions take place solely on that website, so you’ll have to make an account there if you don’t have one.
- You should have a creative mind. Polls are one of the first things visitors see upon visiting Super Mario Wiki, so we need quality ideas.
That’s about it! The Poll Committee is an exciting and important job, so if you think you’re ready, please consider applying. Applications are due December 19 (when the next 'Shroom comes out). We excitedly await your applications!

Types of 3D Mario games (Andymii (talk), November 1, 2015)
Recently, 3D Mario games have become very linear and influenced by the 2D games. Do you like this change, or do you favor exploration-based gameplay? |
---|
I support this change! Recent 3D Mario games merge the best of both 2D and 3D games, and the result is spectacular. 12.18% (293 votes) |
I'm fine with the change, but I still want an exploration-based Mario game once in a while. 23.32% (561 votes) |
They're both super fun! For every linear Mario game there should be an exploration-based one. 22.49% (541 votes) |
Meh. Linear 3D Mario games are okay, but I would like Nintendo to mainly focus on exploration-based ones. 14.09% 339 votes) |
I oppose this change! Linear 3D Mario games simply aren't that fun, and it's long past due for a Super Mario Sunshine 2, Super Mario Galaxy 3, etc. 14.13% (340 votes) |
I trust Nintendo to make every game of exellent quality. Whatever direction they choose to go in will be the best. 13.8% (332 votes) |

New president of Nintendo (Andymii (talk), October 11, 2015)
Tatsumi Kimishima has been announced to be the new global president of Nintendo. Are you satisfied with this decision? |
---|
Yes! As a previous head of Nintendo of America and with plenty of other marketing experience, he is the perfect choice. 27.4% (764 votes) |
He's a fine leader, but other people (such as Reggie Fils-Aimé) could have been better fit for the job. 13.27% (370 votes) |
He's a great asset for Nintendo, but he probably doesn't fit as the CEO. 3.91% (109 votes) |
He'll be an okay president. There are better choices out there, but at least he won't destroy the company. 5.81% (162 votes) |
He's a terrible choice! He doesn't have the necessary skills for such an important job, and Nintendo is going downhill after this. 1.08% (30 votes) |
It doesn't matter. Nintendo will always be great, regardless of who's in charge! 48.53% (1353 votes) |
Total Votes: 2,788 |
Analysis
New President of Nintendo: Although a large amount of voters also expressed their support of Tatsumi Kimishima, there was an overwhelming consensus that Nintendo would be great, regardless of who led the company. I feel like that’s because a lot of people don’t really know whom he is, so they picked the choice that avoided judging Kimishima.
Unofficial Mario Level Editor: I’m actually surprised that more than half of people have actually have used fan-made level editors. I’ve personally tried out Super Mario Flash, but that’s about it.
Types of 3D Mario games: Okay, this is perhaps one of our closest polls yet, and one I’ve been excited to put up for a long time. Votes were so close that one choice beat another by just one vote, and another beat another by just two votes. It really means that we’re intensely divided on the subject. Personally, I’m an exploration-based guy, but as this poll shows, it’s really a hot debate topic.
Choosing a career: We aimed for something a lot sillier this time. I see we have a lot of aspiring go-cart racers out there. But what’s with the lack of carpenters?
That’s about all I have to say. Thank you for reading this month’s Poll Committee Discussion, and please enjoy your Thanksgiving!
Forum Update
Written by: MrConcreteDonkey (talk)
Welcome back the Forum Update, which probably has the narrowest audience of anything I've ever seen. I mean, the intended audience for this is basically people who haven't been on the forum but want to know what's happening, which I'm guessing is approximately no one.
As it is November, we'll be covering October this month.
Stats
- 175 topics were created during October.
- 9955 new posts were made.
- 21 new members joined.
- 179 was the most online - that's the lowest amount so far this year. Great job, guys.

Bold means new entry and Italics means inactive for at least the past month. Bold and Italics means there's probably an imminent time paradox.
Thread of the Month
October's Thread of the Month goes to The once improperly now properly named FE drawing thread by Dr. Alphys (Gabumon (talk)) which was started, like, literally right at the end of October but who cares about that. Either way, Edo's drawings are really great and you should check them out.
Also mariowiki website reviews by Glowsquid was pretty cool, and Memes by Joseph wasn't afraid to say some pretty subversive stuff.
The prize for Best Halloween Thread goes to Halloween is coming by Mettaton (Hypnotoad (talk)), mostly due to Anton's fantastic pumpkin.
Quotes
- "you guys always crack me up" - N64dude
- "i hope not because crack is illegal." - Freakworld
- "if i were hitting on you i would insult you a whole lot more" - 2257
- "why does everything """"serious"""" or """"dark"""" in the mario universe always have something to do super paper mayro" - GBAToad
- "super paper mario's backstory feels to me like, someone at intelligent systems was butthurt they weren't allowed to do Super Mario: The Mature Epic so they hid their fanfiction in the NPC fluff." - Glowsquid
Mafia
Currently underway are Stooben's 'Shroom Mafia III, Roy Koopa's Roy's Mafia and Meta Knight's Paper Mafia 64.
- GBAToad's The Longest Day, The Shortest Mafia (lounge), which contained a maximum of five day phases and was intended to last no longer than 48 hours, was won by the Mafia.
Thanks for reading.

Hello, readers! I'm your Spotlight manager and Pipe Plaza Director, Yoshi876. Welcome to Retro Feature, a section in which I delve deep into the archives to bring you the best blasts from the past. This time I bring you a section from Waluigi48 (talk)!
Waluigi48 joined the Super Mario Wiki on 24 September 2009, and he joined The 'Shroom on 10 November 2010, as the writer of FMTV (a section that has debuted in the original issue of The 'Shroom). Waluigi48 was not with The 'Shroom very long, in fact other than his debut section he only wrote one further section which was six months later, and it was another FTMV.
However, you’re not here to learn about the history of Waluigi48, you’re here to a view a classic section from issues gone by, so without further ado here is Waluigi48's FTMV from Issue XXXIII.
Hi everybody! I have a special issue of FTMV for you today! This month, I'm going to review New Super Mario Bros. Wii!!! Yes, I bought it. Before I tell you the tips, cheats, etc. Let me give a little run through in this game. Peach gets kidnapped, AGAIN, but this time she gets kidnapped by the classic Super Mario Bros. 3 guys, the koopalings. Not only that, but Bowser Jr. gets to join in the fun. Anyway, with that said and done, let's get on to the real stuff. Mario's ToiletYes, Mario does have a toilet, it's a block. To do this, you have to be Super Mario or anything higher ranked than that. Then, you need to ground found a block that gives multiple coins. Hold the down button while doing this. Mario poops coins. Enough said. Easy 1-upsWay 1, The Classic WayThis is like the way to do it on the DS. Go to World 2-3. When you get to the end of the level, you'll see stairs and a green Koopa. Get to the end of a step and when the koopa walk to the above step, jump and you'll bounce several times on the shell, reaching more points and then 1-ups. Way 2, The Wii WayThis is a bit easier. I can't remember the name of the level, but I know it's on World 7 where there's pipes behind you. Anyway, when you get to the check point, walk to moving pipes, and throw a shell in the pipes, the 1-ups commence. This is easier but takes longer than Way 1. You'll probably get 10 lives before you die of time. The shell hits the multiple bullet bills and the points lead up to 1-ups. The Effect of Too Many LivesIf you get 99 lives during a level, you will lose you cap. Mario will still think he has a cap though if you complete a level with 99 lives and you don't die once. Try it with Luigi or the Toads. World 9New Super Mario Bros. Wii DOES have a world 9. I don't want to spoil the surprise, so I'll give you a little hint. You need some star coins or maybe you have to complete the game. Maybe both... Well, that's a have for this month. Next month, I'm going to review a classic fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I'm also going to get some more info on Charles Martinet's "mystery game for 2010." Until next time, PLAY MORE VIDEO GAMES!!!!!!!! |
Banjo 'N' Gutseh's Late-Night Actually Legit Interviews
Written by: Banjonator1 (talk) and Gutsehman (talk)
<banjonator1> Hello, and welcome to our (actually) late night interviews!
<banjonator1> We have a longer name, but I can't be bothered to type it out.
<NEXandGBX> 9pm isn't all that late though.
<banjonator1> It's 10 if you lived in glorious flyover america
<banjonator1> oh wait
<GutsehMan> it's 9 for me too
<banjonator1> it is nine
<banjonator1> wow i can't read clocks
<GutsehMan> as you can see we're professionals
<banjonator1> Anyway, I'm glad to be back with guts after we missed last month's issues
<GutsehMan> i had an incident about having to find some crystal skull thingy
<banjonator1> because i am physically incapable of getting my things in order
<banjonator1> We have with us NEXandGBX
<NEXandGBX> reminds me that i should get my section for this month written soon
<NEXandGBX> also hi
<banjonator1> Now my first question is this:
<banjonator1> what is a nex, and what is a gbx
<GutsehMan> and to add to his question
<GutsehMan> what happens when you put them together like that
<NEXandGBX> well a nex is a nex
<NEXandGBX> and a gbx is just dumb
<NEXandGBX> actually it's nintendo entertainment xtremist and game boy xtremist respectively
<NEXandGBX> and when you put them together it becomes fatter
<GutsehMan> 'nintendo entertainment xtremist and game boy xtremist'
<GutsehMan> agh i'm not good at improving up questions while banjo does this bit
<GutsehMan> ...but i do have one
<banjonator1> shoot, guts
<NEXandGBX> don't actually shoot me please
<GutsehMan> nex remember when we teamed during the smash tournament during the awards celebrations
<NEXandGBX> yeah
<GutsehMan> did i do good
<NEXandGBX> well you did pretty good
<GutsehMan> like how was it overall though
<GutsehMan> because we had some decent stuff going on there
<GutsehMan> even if certain villagers inserted salt into my veins by the end
<NEXandGBX> we didn't have a whole lot of teamwork but i think that was my fault more than yours
<NEXandGBX> oh and fuck tree hitboxes tyvm
<GutsehMan> nerf trees tbh
<NEXandGBX> i'm still salty over that zelda reflector miss
<banjonator1> ugh
<banjonator1> "salt"
<banjonator1> this is what i get for interviewing a card carrying member of the meme team
<NEXandGBX> yes
<banjonator1> Anyway Nex, what do you think people in the community know you for?
<GutsehMan> banjo is the 'meme team' the same as when we had the interview with pi
<GutsehMan> just to clarify
<banjonator1> The meme team changes to fit my mood
<GutsehMan> k
<banjonator1> its like the word hipster
<banjonator1> to clarify a bit:
<banjonator1> what do you think you are most known for in the community?
<NEXandGBX> i'm probably most well known for the months of lankyposting i did
<banjonator1> That thread is golden.
<banjonator1> You've done us a great service, and I applaud you.
<NEXandGBX> can i slip a bit of a secret here
<banjonator1> I mean
<NEXandGBX> pi made me stop lankyposting
<banjonator1> everyone who reads this dumb section can read-
<banjonator1> NO
<GutsehMan> lynch pi
<GutsehMan> LYNNNNNNNCH
<banjonator1> And you'd think pi would welcome memes with open arms
<NEXandGBX> anyways, other things i think people know me for are me never doing any of my projects (see: nexandgbx adventures, nexandgbxandmafia), being chill, and the 'shy guy is too small' bit
<banjonator1> I could probably vouch for you being chill, you seem like an alright guy.
<banjonator1> Just gonna backtrack for a sec here, how much closer do you think we are to seeing lanky in smash?
<NEXandGBX> a bit farther i would think
<GutsehMan> but lanky is in smash
<NEXandGBX> trophies though
<GutsehMan> he's a trophy :')
<NEXandGBX> so i guess lanky really was in smash this whole time
<GutsehMan> he did have style
<GutsehMan> and he did have recognition
<banjonator1> this is eye opening
<GutsehMan> he was put in the smash bros
<GutsehMan> in high definition
<NEXandGBX> yet he still has a funny face :^)
<GutsehMan> scrap 'in the'
<GutsehMan> put 'into'
<GutsehMan> editor's note
<GutsehMan> banjo we have an editor right
<banjonator1> don't worry i'll fix it post production
<banjonator1> (i actually won't because it makes gutseh look dumb lol)
<GutsehMan> oh speaking of smash
<GutsehMan> ...i should point out we're conducting this interview the day of the direct
<GutsehMan> we got cloud
<GutsehMan> i just need thoughts oddly enough
<banjonator1> Yes, it's a historic day for people who care about final fantasy
<banjonator1> so
<NEXandGBX> cloud has been in smash since melee
<NEXandGBX> in pikachu's down b
<banjonator1> i'm ded
<NEXandGBX> he's been watching this whole time
<NEXandGBX> observing
<GutsehMan> >not going for the yoshi's story reference
<GutsehMan> shameful tbh
<banjonator1> man, spamming down-b was fantastic
<NEXandGBX> and he finally broke free of his shell and became human again
<GutsehMan> one last smash thing
<NEXandGBX> because what you don't know is that after every other game with cloud in it is that pikachu kidnapped him and made him a literal cloud
<GutsehMan> *whistles*
<GutsehMan> ok so like
<GutsehMan> to end off the entire direct they announced a news thingy for december
<GutsehMan> and nintendo is calling it
<GutsehMan> "the last one for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS"
<GutsehMan> probably in terms of specific directs and such
<NEXandGBX> source?
<GutsehMan> press release
<NEXandGBX> well then
<GutsehMan> so it's safe to assume
<GutsehMan> we'll get the ballot results
<banjonator1> oh wow
<GutsehMan> or some kind of update on the future of the series
<banjonator1> that's actually really exciting
<banjonator1> did anything else in the direct catch your eye, nex?
<NEXandGBX> not particularly, fe14 releasing in february is nice i guess
<banjonator1> Well, gutseh, you have any last questions?
<banjonator1> Good call bringing up the direct, btw
<GutsehMan> well i was setting up for one with the ballot talk
<GutsehMan> since it's sort of been confirmed as a 'suggestion box'
<GutsehMan> with the surprise reveal of cloud
<GutsehMan> who nobody could've seen coming
<GutsehMan> who do you think will be added to smash as a result of the ballot
<NEXandGBX> SANDBAG GETS REVENGE
<NEXandGBX> oh wait zelda's already in smash
<GutsehMan> ohhhhh
<GutsehMan> come on nex
<GutsehMan> low ******* blow
<banjonator1> I've got my **** in a twist for shovel knight personally
<GutsehMan> we can't swear can w- oh ok
<NEXandGBX> ehehehe i had to
<banjonator1> Well I think we got a lot out of this.
<banjonator1> Thanks for being with us Nex!
<NEXandGBX> No problem~
<banjonator1> Any closing words?
<NEXandGBX> Shy Guy is still too small for Smash.
<GutsehMan> i'll fight you
<NEXandGBX> scrub
<banjonator1> Cool.
