Merge Special Shots from Mario Hoops 3-on-3 into this article[edit]

This proposal aims to merge all of the Special Shots from Mario Hoops 3-on-3 into this article. Basically, they're all the same thing, minus some aesthetic differences and forms of activating. The Mario Sports Mix section below is already summarizing the moves that each player uses in the other sports.
If you take a look at articles such as the Cannon Shot or the Twist Dunk, for example, they're basically stating most of the same things but differ only by stating which pattern is needed to tap out a shape and what the animation of using the move looks like, both of which can be summarized conveniently on the Special Shot page here. If there were notable gameplay differences, then it's more understandable why they'd be split, but the Special Shots are not proven to have any distinct effect on gameplay. Special Shots are similar to the Super Strike in Super Mario Strikers, and that has the Names in other languages for each of them on the article, so this merge will be manageable.
If this proposal passes, the following pages will be merged into the Mario Hoops 3-on-3 section of Special Shot (Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and Mario Sports Mix):
- Fire Shot
- Flutter Dunk
- Konga Dunk
- Jet Shot
- Moogle Dance
- Green Fire Shot
- Heart Shot
- Flower Shot
- Cannon Shot
- Egg Shot
- Move-It Dunk
- Twist Dunk
- Graffiti Shot
- Bomber Dunk
- Thriller Dunk
- Wing Shot
- Leaf Veil
- Thunder Shot
- 1000 Needles
- Holy Shot
- Meteor Shot

Comments[edit]
Bit on the fence here. It's a good point that most of these special shots don't do anything particularly special and that most of them could just function as a list article, but at the same time, they all have names and I have a hunch that's why they are all split to begin with. If naming is the point, that kinda makes me realize that Hyper Strikes, which also have their own names and their own unique effects, do not have their own articles (not exactly the point of the proposal, but this proposal itself is what made me realize the differences in how special shots are treated). I guess it would make sense to merge these together, but I'm also under the impression that if they have their own names and features, despite lack of unique functionality, they can have their own articles. - Special Shot (Mario Tennis Aces) and Special Shot (Mario Golf: Super Rush) are also in a similar boat in that they have unique names and animations, as well as effects in the latter case. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 17:40, January 2, 2025 (EST)
- I guess that leaves me with a question of what exactly do we want to do with special shots in general. It does seem most of them are grouped into list articles except for Power Shots from Mario Tennis games. I guess knowing that, just merging them here would be consistent with other special shots, but then it raises the question of what to do with Power Shots. - Super Abilities and Skillshots have their own pages too (but not Mega Strikes, I guess. The template for MSC doesn't even list the article). BMfan08 (talk) 18:35, January 2, 2025 (EST)
- While we're on the topic of Special Shots as a whole concept, what about the Special Shots/Special moves from the Mario & Sonic series? They all have their own names and animations as well. They debuted in the first Summer Olympics, and were all named after the first Winter Olympics. ThunderBrine (talk) 20:40, January 2, 2025 (EST)
- We could gather a list of moves throughout the games that are only aesthetically different but are initiated in more or less the same way and could therefore be summarized on their respective move pages (such as Special Shot in this case). And then handle those on a separate proposal. Super Mario RPG (talk) 20:42, January 2, 2025 (EST)
Whether this proposal succeeds or not, I think it'd be a good idea to revamp the list on this article a bit regardless, because the concise bullet lists divided by even shorter subsections... whoof, that doesn't look good at all. This section on the Mario Hoops page actually has a neat table we can use here (although I personally wouldn't want to put the commands and how to perform them on the frontlines). rend (talk) (edits) 18:29, January 2, 2025 (EST)
Ooh, ooh! Should we merge literally every single sports special moves into their own pages like say remerging the special shots with this page? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:57, January 3, 2025 (EST)
- You're missing the point. There's no discernible gameplay characteristics with the Special Shots in Hoops, only cosmetic and the methods of activating them, both of which can be easily stated on the Special Shot page itself. Super Mario RPG (talk) 09:29, January 3, 2025 (EST)

- How does that change anything? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 18:59, January 4, 2025 (EST)

@ThunderBrine ...are you gonna add something to your vote (maybe a "per proposer")? As far as I'm aware, we do not allow blank votes just yet (there's an ongoing proposal about it, but it's currently on a standstill). rend (talk) (edits) 13:46, January 4, 2025 (EST)
