Move to "Kutlass (enemy)"[edit]

As the title implies, I'd like to move this page to Kutlass (enemy) to make way for "Kutlass" being a disambiguation page for the species and the character. The reason I'd like to do as such is because Kutlasses (the enemy) aren't too popular in the Donkey Kong franchise. They only appear in Donkey Kong Country 2 and its Game Boy Advance remake. And even so, they defiently are the most well-known enemies, unlike Kannons or Krunchas. This enemy also doesn't even appear in Donkey Kong Land 2, which is unlike most other Country 2 enemies. Also, considering the Donkey Kong Country show "obscure" is a false statement. It's popular due to it being so infamous. And I'm not saying Kutlass (the character) is a popular character in the show, he only appears in a few episodes, yet I feel like Kutlasses (the enemy) shouldn't exactly take priority over him.

Support - Move "Kutlass" to "Kutlass (enemy)" and make "Kutlass" a disambiguation page[edit]
- Kaptain Skurvy (talk) Per proposal.
- PrincessPeachFan (talk) Yeah sure. After all, why should only one version have an identifier?
- Rykitu (talk) Per all.
Support - Move "Kutlass" to "Kutlass (enemy)" and move "Kutlass (character) to "Kutlass"[edit]
Oppose - Keep as is[edit]
- Arend (talk) It feels a bit weird to me to give the game enemy no priority over the cartoon character that is based on said game's game-originated franchise. I feel the proposal also undersells the general awareness of Kutlass the enemy: not only does this guy appear in 9 levels across the game's five worlds (that's in comparison only three levels less than Klomp, DKC2's equivalent to the basic Kritter enemy), not only does it have a near-identical variant in Klank that appears in two more levels, but the game they appear in just so happens to be one of the highest-selling and most beloved SNES games of all time. I think a fair few more people will recognize Kutlass sooner as that one small enemy with the big swords from one of the most popular games of the 90s, over this rather unremarkable-looking pirate henchman that just so happens to be a recurring character in an "only-popular-because-it's-infamously-bad/goofy" cartoon adapted from the games... purely because his boss is a recurring character in said show and is rarely (if ever) seen without him. (EDIT: I also went through the wiki pages for every episode, and Kutlass the character was only mentioned in five of those. He apparently appears in a sixth episode, but only as a mere cameo appearance from reused clips, so that's only five significant appearances in the show overall. I'd be more receptive to giving both Kutlasses equal priority if cartoon!Kutlass appeared in more episodes than game!Kutlass did in levels, but that seems not to be the case either)

Comments[edit]
I'm not exactly sure about "popularity" of this enemy or how "popular" the DKC cartoon guy is or the cartoon factors into this. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 12:50, January 27, 2025 (EST)
@Arend: To me it's not about the "popularity" (which I think is odd to bring up), it's about the fact that the DKC cartoon guy has an identifier but the enemy does not. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:07, January 28, 2025 (EST)
- Typically, when multiple subjects share the same name, it's the most well-known, most relevant, or most contextually obvious that gets priority, and whose article won't need an identifier, whereas the rest do require one (see Buddy and Buddy (Mario's Bombs Away); notice how the one from Mario & Luigi Brothership does not have an identifier). The proposer, Kaptain Skurvy (not to be confused with the character of the same name), argues that Kutlass the enemy is not well-known enough to deserve priority over Kutlass the cartoon character and thus should receive an identifier as well, arguing that they're equally well-known and equally relevant, and thus should both require an identifier, akin to the two Cog Jogs (to which I disagree, as his points undermine the popularity and relevance of DKC2 compared to DKC the cartoon series, and also make it seem like Kutlass the character is more important in the show than he really is). rend (talk) (edits) 11:30, January 28, 2025 (EST)
