Shouldn't this article be called "Fly meter" rather than "fly"? As in Health Meter's case, we don't have a standalone article called "Power" reserved for Super Mario 64's health meter. "Fly meter" is also more precise than simply "fly", because "fly" can dictate an action or a common insect. This article deals mostly with the meter anyway. It's me, Mario! This article is redundant. It's also bothersome that searching for "Fly" leads to this page rather than a disambiguation (searchers can think about the insect or the move). This article, also, is extremely short. The last section in Fly (move) basically deals what this article covers, so we can simply move information from this article to the other, better article.

Downgrade to list?

I'm... not sure how much I like this page.MarioWiki:Once and only once is clearly weighing on this page heavily. A page that did a deep dive into all the different ways to fly would be useful, but this page can't deal in control schemes and mechanics because the page for each form deals in control schemes and mechanics. I think the best course of action is to change this article from prose to a list so that it is better at comparing and contrasting all the different mechanics, giving this page a niche that the Power-up and item pages don't have. I agree, I think this article is ineffective. It's also just not very comprehensive; it only just briefly touches on flying enemies, it covers a totally random selection of games, and it misses several examples of flight even in the games it does cover, like the P Balloon. Enemies are being excluded intentionally probably, because if it covered enemies it would easily be the longest list on the wiki. Similarly to how Boomerang nods at Boomerang Bros. and Boomerang Mario then moves on to the actual focus on independent Boomerang items. Salmancer (talk) 05:50, November 29, 2024 (EST)

This seems complete enough to publicize. Behold! The extremely incomplete upcoming replacement (maybe) for this page: User:Salmancer/List of methods of flight. I think the criteria makes sense, it not being prose makes it easier to update, and it can (theoretically) cover every edition of flying ever! Only problem is that I very much have to know how every game controls, I haven't played every Super Mario game, and the categorization system doesn't really work with only videos as a reference. I guess problem one is that it's hard to remember which column goes with which kind of flying. This is one place where colors might help. (Also I really really want to exclude Launch Star since including player initiated but not player controlled flying adds another column and a couple dozen more entries, but it's on this article so it has to be here.)
