Stage 2 is the second stage of Virtual Boy Wario Land. Set in what appears to be a cross between a dungeon and an aqueduct, it introduces spiked enemies and Sea Dragon Wario.

Layout[edit]

The first object to be found after leaving the elevator is a set of blocks, followed by a crawling skull on the ceiling. Immediately after, there is a set of four wooden doors, with the second one hiding a horned spearman behind it. The stage's first background area comes into view right after, requiring Bull Wario to Body Slam the metallic tile right under the block embedded in the ground. This reveals a Jump Transporter, allowing the player to access the coins and hearts hidden in the background area's blocks. Breaking the rightmost block reveals another Jump Transporter, returning the player to the main course.

Back in the foreground, the game's first Mask-Guy can be found, along with another crawling skull and a horned spearman further ahead. Immediately after, a pipe can be found, and the stage's second background area can be seen. Past it is a flat stretch of ground with four Mask-Guys and a coin cloud hovering above. By bumping the Mask-Guys from behind, they can be thrown into the coin cloud separately from their masks, for a total of 160 coins. A Hidden Block containing a viking helmet can be found to the right of the pipe.

The pipe leads to a series of two similar underground rooms. Both of them feature a similar staircase shape to the right, as well as several hearts scattered on the ground. The first one has two Mask-Guys, as well as a door leading to the second room. The middlemost block of the staircase's bottom step can be broken for a Big Coin. The second room holds a Mask-Guy and a crawling skull, as well as an exit pipe. The bottom leftmost block of the staircase can be broken for another Big Coin, and a Hidden Block right above it holds a garlic bottle.

The exit pipe leads to the stage's second background area, which holds five ? Blocks. Although the first four contain coins and hearts, the fifth and rightmost one contains the stage's key. A set of Jump Transporters right after allows the player to return to the foreground. To the right of the Jump Transporters, however, is a semi-hidden side room behind two waterfalls, holding several coins and hearts under a layer of blocks, requiring Bull Wario to break them.

Past the four Mask-Guys, three ? Blocks, and another horned spearman, a staircase formation can be found, leading the player above an enclosed area. The staircase's second step can be broken, revealing a door leading to a vault holding a diamond. Two Mask-Guys patrol above the enclosed area's ceiling, and the corner of the descending step can be hit to reveal a Hidden Block. Down a second staircase formation, a ? Block holding a viking helmet can be found, along with two horned spearmans. Between both of the spearmans' doors is a set of seven metallic tiles on the ground. The middle tile can be broken with Bull Wario's Body Slam, revealing a Jump Transporter leading to a bonus background area. Right before the screen transition, a Hidden Block holding a coin can be found two tiles from the wall.

To the right of this is the stage's final screen, which holds in order: a Hidden Block containing a viking helmet, flush against the wall; three crawling skulls; a Mask-Guy; a ? Block holding the first Dragon Crystal; a pipe blocked by two Bonfire Blocks; and the elevator leading to the next stage.

Treasure[edit]

Treasure found in Stage 2 of Virtual Boy Wario Land.

The stage's treasure can be found by using Sea Dragon Wario's fire breath to break the Bonfire Blocks blocking the pipe at the end of the stage. This pipe leads to an underground room with four hearts and a crawling skull, and an elevated section on either side. The ends of both elevated sections can be broken, revealing Big Coins.

The room's exit pipe leads to the enclosed area from earlier in the level, featuring a Jump Transporter leading to a background area with bonus items, several hearts, and a set of Bonfire Blocks hiding a door that leads to the stage's treasure. Backtracking is not required to return to the main level, as the tiles above the Bonfire Blocks can be broken.

The treasure resembles a marble bust with an almost-blank face and an elaborate headdress. In a second playthrough, the bust's face changes into a henohenomoheji.

Second playthrough[edit]

Like every stage in the game, the second playthrough places additional Spike Traps in hard to avoid places. Two notable additions are a set of Spike Traps placed right under a crawling skull's range, causing it to inevitably drop into them and die, and two walls of spikes on either side of the first underground room's pipe.
