- “Gotta hand it to the chef... He sure knows how to build hype. I suppose it helps that the fare he serves is so...rejuvenative.”
- —Huey, Paper Mario: Color Splash
Mustard Café is a location from Paper Mario: Color Splash. The path leading here is unlocked after getting the yellow Mini Paint Star from Sacred Forest, and unlocks a path leading to Toad Trainworks.
Layout[edit]
When Mario enters the area, he and Huey notice a giant colorless spot on the ground. Toad #5 of the yellow Rescue Squad is fanning the Mustard Café Chef, who is in the middle of the giant spot. When Mario talks to him, the Rescue Squad Toad goes off to the Sacred Forest. The Mini Paint Star in this level is located in the café, although the chef is too busy relaxing to open it.
Once the purple Big Paint Star has been reclaimed from Wendy O. Koopa at Fortune Island, the colorless spot is repainted, and the Toad falls into the hole. When Mario and Huey go to investigate, they are blown in by a gust of wind. Huey gets lost in the sand, and Mario is temporarily unable to use his Paint Hammer until he rescues Huey from a Pokey. With Huey saved, Mario can repaint a Warp Pipe, although there is a rock blocking the other exit. To remove the rock, Mario must stand on a solid area and use Cutout when the rock is aligned, so he can remove it.
Continuing through the pipe leads Mario to an area with a tunnel of Warp Pipes, which rotate and may knock him off. One of these pipes is uncolored, and Mario must paint a section before he can use the pipe. This leads him to an area with quicksand where the Mustard Café chef is floating in a parasol. Once Mario and Huey get on, it collapses, and the chef begins following Mario around. He promises to give Mario a seat in the café, near the Mini Paint Star, if he is rescued.
The next area contains a larger pipe structure, with Pokeys jumping out of the sand across the pipes. Mario must navigate and paint every part of the pipe so he and the chef can pass through. After this is an area with a Save Block and a smaller pipe structure, where Mario must use Cutout to get on top and paint a Warp Pipe. In the following section, Mario and the chef see a very tall pipe that leads back aboveground. Before they can enter it, Snifits grab them and throw them in cells in the Snifit Undersand Hideout.
Inside the cell, Mario must hammer the ground to uncover a weak spot and drop down a floor, to B2. The cell is open and Mario must walk to the left to find another weak spot, and drop to floor B3. Here, Mario must hit a poster to lower a rope, which uncovers another weak spot after being pulled. The chef is trapped on B4, along with the Snifit's Card Key, found underneath the couch in a room to the left. With the Snifit's Card Key, Mario can open cells and operate the elevator, going to any floor.
After freeing the chef, Mario must go to floor B1 to get the Café Key, and then can leave the hideout. The chef opens up his café, and puts the Mini Paint Star as a menu item for Mario. Collecting it opens a path to Toad Trainworks.

Trivia[edit]
- Part of the theme that plays in the shifting sands area is a sitar cover of the Super Mario Bros. Underground Theme.
- A glitch happens in the Holo-Peach sequence if the chef is following the player: Huey clips in front of and behind the chef.[1]
- If the max paint meter is high enough, one can attempt to repaint the giant colorless spot with the paint hammer, rather than with the purple Big Paint Star, but after a certain point the game prevents the player from filling in any more spots, even if they are not part of the hole, until they leave the level.[2]
