Koopa Troopa (red)
  • Instruction booklet description:
    • English:
This turtle is chicken! Very timid, he gets scared easily and runs back and forth a lot. Jump on him and he stops moving for a while.
      100 PTS.[1]
    • Japanese:
      気が弱くて、行ったり来たり、そわそわしている。踏むとしばらく動かない。
      100PTS.[3]

(Translation: It's timid, coming and going, fidgeting. When you step on it, it doesn't move for a while.)

Super Mario World[edit]

  • Instruction booklet description:
    • English:
The same old Koopas are back again. Everything seems bleak when these characters appear! If you jump on a Koopa in this game, it pops out of its shell. And what's worse is that an unshelled Koopa will eventually find its empty shell and climb back in to start all over again. BEWARE! If a Koopa climbs into a yellow shell, he'll become invincible![4]
    • Japanese:
(Translation: The ever-familiar Koopa Troopa turtle. Why is it that when I see him, even though he is an enemy, I get a warm and fuzzy feeling? This time, when you step on the Koopa Troopa from above, it pops out of its shell. After a while, the popped-out body will find an empty shell and come up again inside it. If it enters a yellow shell, it becomes invincible, so be careful. There are four different colors to choose from, making for a very colorful experience.)
(Translation: The same good old Koopas are back again. Everyone turns pale when these characters appear. If you jump on a Koopa in this game, it pops out of its shell. Worse yet is that a Koopa without shell eventually finds its empty shell anyway and starts anew. WATCH OUT: If a Koopa crawls into a yellow shell, it is invincible.)
(Translation: The same old Koopas are back again. Everything seems bleak when these characters appear. If you jump on a Koopa in this game, it pops out of its shell to escape... Even worse, this Unshelled Koopa can find its empty shell and climb back in to start again the fight. If a Koopa climbs into a yellow shell, he'll become invincible.)
  • Mario Mania: These fighting turtles first appeared in Mario Bros. as Shellcreepers, then became Koopa Troopas and Koopa Paratroopas in the Super Mario Bros. series. Recently Mario has been able to knock them out of their shells. Before, they they hid in their housings when stomped, then came back out when the coast was clear.[8]

Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2[edit]

  • Denizens of Dinosaur Land poster: The Koopas are back in force! When you jump on top of them, they shoot right out of their shell. There are four different colours of Koopa shells.[11]

Mario can also use the shells to throw at other enemies, smash open things, or swim faster.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]

  • Trading Card description: Get ready to stomp some shells. Koopa Troopas are faithful foot soldiers to Bowser that take their duties seriously. They pace back & forth waiting for you to drop your guard. Green-shelled Troopas will walk off of ledges, but red Troopas will double back. In the skies, you will see the winged species, Paratroopas. You can stomp their wing power for a knockout advantage.

    • Looking for a new color scheme for your level? Try giving your Green Koopa Troopa a shake to turn its shell red! Green Koopa Troopas will walk off ledges, while Red Koopa Troopas won’t.

How to unlock: Random
Common soldiers in Bowser's army, Koopa Troopas can retreat into their shells. Unbelievable as it may seem, they're clearly unaware of being kicked and sent sliding when in this position. There are many Koopa types, each with a different shell color and unique traits. They all wear T-shirts and shorts under their shells.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

In the Red Koopa Troopa's trophy description, the text "chase Mario with nets" is a mistranslation from the Japanese trophy description, which states that they chased Mario by climbing on wire nets, which occurred in castles and fortresses in Super Mario World.

A henchman of Bowser. In the old days, they'd retreat into their shells for a short while to protect themselves after being stepped on. Recently, however, some have begun to immediately pop back out. You'll often find them marching straight ahead--if the path ends, they'll just march into the abyss. Surely there are no braver turtles to be found.

A turtle in the employ of Bowser. Koopas formerly traveled on four legs, but they've recently been spotted strolling on two. This has freed up their hands, allowing them to chase Mario with nets. Their adaptability must make Bowser very happy indeed. Unlike their green-shelled brethren, red ones do about-faces when they run out of road. They're a bright group.

They do this in Smash Run as well. Defeating them will reduce them to a shell you can throw. (American English)
These turtles are just as common as Goombas in Bowser's army. They're brave little soldiers, and nothing will make them stop in their tracks – not you, not holes, not even cliffs. The same goes in Smash Run, too. Once they see a fighter, they'll go right after them. Beat them or stomp on them to turn them into shells you can throw. (British English)

  • "Friends" section:
Don't tell one of these minions to come out of its shell (unless you plan to throw its shell right back at it).

These members of Bowser's Koopa Troop wear their homes—and their weapons—on their backs. You can usually find them marching through the Mushroom Kingdom and looking for trouble.
  • Who's Your Mushroom Kingdom BFF?: It takes a while for Koopa Troopa to come out of its shell. But once it does, it'll do whatever it tells you to do.

amiibo[edit]

  • These baddies are just as common as Goombas in Bowser's army. They may look meek, but they have the guts to leap off any cliff they come across. If you jump on one, its shell will be yours to kick or throw as you please. Many locations in Mario games are named after these enemies, such as Koopa Beach and Koopa Park.
