Characters from Diddy Kong Racing[edit]

I was wondering if Banjo and Conker should be included here, since while their "proper" debuts were in development at the time (though the latter's development got restarted), they got their "preview" debut in Diddy Kong Racing. Also, while I'm unsure about Conker, Banjo was definitely considered a Nintendo character rather than a Rare character until the Microsoft acquisition. I don't think they'd fit—at least not without overcomplicating this category. When planning out this category, I was prioritizing the intent of a character's creation rather than the game they debuted in. While Diddy Kong Racing may not have started development as a Donkey Kong game, its original characters weren't originally created for different games as Banjo and Conker were (with the possible exception of Tiptup, but he's a whole other can of worms). Super Mario Wiki considers Banjo and Conker to not be Mario characters, straight up. In policy and everything. See paragraph 5 of MarioWiki:Coverage. So the answer is a no, I take it. Salmancer (talk) 13:35, December 22, 2024 (EST)
Well, that settles it. There's also the fact that Rare never considered Donkey Kong, Banjo-Kazooie, and Conker to share a universe in the first place... SolemnStormcloud (talk) 13:39, December 22, 2024 (EST)
I don't consider any of the Diddy Kong Racing characters Super Mario characters. If anything, they're closer being Donkey Kong characters, a couple times removed from the Mario franchise. This category is mainly for Mario games whose characters have ownership for third parties, such as Super Mario RPG characters. But then, this just starts being a category for just Super Mario RPG characters. Mario It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 16:11, December 22, 2024 (EST)
I was using the name "Super Mario" in the context of the "meta-franchise" comprising the Super Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Wario franchises. I don't know what other name to use for this category that still has enough brevity—"Category:Third-party Super Mario characters" is a long enough name as is! On the plus side, characters from the Mario + Rabbids duology have been added to this category, which I can agree to including. SolemnStormcloud (talk) 18:05, December 22, 2024 (EST)
