Talk:Mario Kart World
Move to "Untitled Mario Kart game"?
The game doesn't have a confirmed title, and the current one used for this article sounds as if it's an official name since it uses a similar title format as Luigi's Mansion (Nintendo 3DS) and Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch). Princess Peach: Showtime!, for example, went by "Untitled Princess Peach game" before its reveal, so why should this game be an exception? "Untitled Mario Kart game" summarises the article's topic much more accurately in my opinion. Yours truly, RetroNintendo2008. 10:42, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- I forgot that's the name we gave to Showtime! I was going for what we used to name untitled games years ago on the wiki like Paper Mario (Nintendo 3DS) for Sticker Star.
Mario JC 11:26, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- I've moved it back, because Mario Kart (Nintendo Switch 2) is a far more descriptive title that people are more likely to search for (especially since in order to find this game on this wiki you have to type "Untitled" on the search bar). We've really used untitled for the Peach game just because it's an entirely new series/game so we can't 100% be sure for the title of that game, but this game off the bat is part of a series and we know "Mario Kart" will be part of it.

I saw Bowser Jr. on the trailer
During the last section of the reveal, Bowser Jr. seems to be behind Baby Rosalina. I also think that Shy Guy is not seen playable, but due to an NPC Shy Guy appearing very close to King Boo on the distance, it gives the illusion that Shy Guy is there. --Tiixi (talk) 13:09, January 16, 2025 (EST)
if you go frame by frame in the video you can see the shy guy follow behind king boo, suggesting they're also a playable character Golddude64 (talk) 14:36, February 10, 2025 (EST)
Donkey Kong design
Currently, the page says that Donkey Kong's design in this game is based on how he looks in the The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is misleading since the design here is clearly just based on how Shigehisa Nakaue has always drawn DK, including in concept art for the movie itself which is why he had that design in the movie in the first place. Magma. (talk) 13:15, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- That does make sense. Nakaue's artstyle is also the basis for the in-game artstyle for Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which people immediately caught, but that game didn't have DK in it, so this might be the first time Nakaue's Donkey Kong is translated into 3D; no way people would recognize that right away.
rend (talk) (edits) 14:37, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- There might be cause for people adding it, Way back in the second direct for the film, this design was hyped up as a "new design". And I quote, "We've also changed his design for the first time since he became a 3D model in the original Donkey Kong Country game" (4:52). So we'd also have to call a direct statement from Nintendo balderdash, when we do take Nintendo at their word for which games are in the Super Mario series. There may be cause to do exactly this, but I'm a non-artist so I can't pass judgement. Salmancer (talk) 17:19, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- I was gonna say that maybe not because of how people thought several moments in Brothership were references to The Super Mario Bros. Movie that were not but if Nintendo says it's a new design, then we shouldn't be saying it's not because we don't think it's not. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 21:12, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- It might have the same inspirations, but it being 3D automatically makes it a different design from the one used in 2D art. DesaMatt (talk) 00:52, January 17, 2025 (EST)
- All we have seen of the design so far is some blurry footage. Putting it as DEFINITELY being based off the movie design is jumping the gun, especially since it clearly has some differences from the movie's design as well (eye width, etc.) BubbleRevolution (talk) 03:02, January 17, 2025 (EST)
- I dunno. From what I can tell online, a lot of people are already saying it's inspired by the movie design. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:03, January 17, 2025 (EST)
- A lot of people can still be wrong. I think both the movie and the new Mario Kart's DK design are both taking design cues from the original Donkey Kong (Cranky)'s design, you can see it well in this original art, and how close that looks to this new 2026 calendar. (a bit early for one of those, isn't it?) So it's more of a case of them redesigning DK to resemble the old design, and then this new iteration first appeared in the movie before making its way to games and 2D artwork. So while I agree that it does resemble DK's design in the movie, I would not say it was "inspired by" or "based on" it. — Lady Sophie

King Bob-Omb
At one point, you can see what might be King Bob-Omb. As suggested in this Twitter post (https://x.com/RHVGamer/status/1879960122891583914/photo/1), it might suggest he will be returning. edlde62 (edlde62) 14:57, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- Pretty sure that's Lakitu instead. And I honestly don't see King Bob-omb in it anyway: couldn't find the mustache like the tweet you linked described, nor any dark blue of his spherical body. Instead, I recognized Lakitu's glasses and his round yellow head.

That's Bowser Jr. On a big spherical car. --Tiixi (talk) 15:41, January 16, 2025 (EST)
Kinda looks like Queen Bee from Mario Kart 7. But it's probably Lakitu since he's a more common character.

"It is the first completely new Mario Kart title for a Nintendo game system since Mario Kart 8 in 2014."
Shouldn't Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit count? Live is a "completely new" Mario Kart, and although it's not exactly mainline, we don't know if this is either (although it 99.99% is... but it hasn't been confirmed yet). BlueYoshi-57EML (talk) 15:12, January 16, 2025 (EST)
If you ask me, Home Circuit feels more like an RC car than an actual game Harvstar (talk) 16:49, January 16, 2025 (EST)
The correct wording would be the first "new traditional console entry" since Mario Kart 8, however we do not know yet if it is "traditional" and even then "traditional" is subjective. - YoYo (Talk) 12:18, March 3, 2025 (EST)
About Peach on the bike not having her bike outfit
In the trailer, Peach is driving on a bike using her kart outfit and not the bike outfit seen since Mario Kart Wii, and this page does talk about that: "Additionally, characters who previously were automatically given different outfits on bikes no longer do so".
However, I wouldn't put such a bold claim like this in this page, and basically confirming it's not returning. Yes it is in the trailer, but not only is it a weird thing to remove considering every Mario Kart game that has included bikes brings back the bike outfits, but Peach's dress also clips weirdly on the bike in the trailer and this all just looks like beta footage and not actually something they removed, rather they haven't added full support yet. Or maybe it's a customization thing though it's unlikely since again, it so obviously clips into the bike that I doubt Nintendo would let this slide. Rodmjorgeh (Psst, let's talk?) 17:52, January 16, 2025 (EST)
- There is the chance of there being alternate costumes in the game. DK Fan
- If it's a customization thing, please note the use of the word "automatically" in that statement. There's a reason it's there. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:17, January 16, 2025 (EST)
Red Shell tires
In the trailer, Mario's tires are labeled with the brand name "RED SHELL" (presumably the manufacturer). How should the page characterize this? They aren't exactly a sponsor, since they don't have any advertisements posted on the race course. (It's also unclear whether this is the Red Shell Strike Equipment sponsor from previous games, since they seem to make red shell items, not car parts.) Nopad (talk) 14:51, January 17, 2025 (EST)
I think it should be considered a sponsor for now, at least. (Especially because Luigi's car has the words "Blue Shell" on it, which is currently being considered a sponsor.) Harvstar (talk) 16:27, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
There are advertisements on the track for both Red Shell and Spiny Shell/Blue Shell- Red Shell Speed Tires and Spiny Shell Engine respectively. They do appear in the trailer, though I don't have timestamps to hand. HammerBrosPlumbing (talk) 08:26, April 3, 2025 (EDT)
Daisy Air Freshener Orange
In the area by the diner, there's an add for a new Daisy Air Freshener Orange, but on the article it seems to have been mislabeled as Princess Orange. The designs are similar, so Daisy Air Freshener Orange might be a new product under the same company as Princess Orange, but they are two different products! Feather and Gold Shell items
In the new Switch 2 Parental Controls trailer, Bowser Jr. can be seen with the feather, even holding it behind him at times. On the website for Mario Kart World, the video for the Grand Prix shows a gold shell in the item roulette for less than a second at the very beginning. Just so these can be added to the Items section. --AGamer64 (talk) 12:19, April 2, 2025 (EST)
I saw a gold shell on the website too. Hint Toad (talk) 13:41, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
Aside from the items, Nintendo Today has a few screenshots showing some vehicle designs and Mario outfits. --AGamer64 (talk) 14:28, April 2, 2025 (EST)
Coin Coffer
Coin Coffer appears twice in the Switch 2 Overview Trailer. First at 0:21 on the minimap and again at 5:14 driving a kart. I'm sure this will be added to the page soon but I wanted to be the first person on the wiki to report the big Coin Coffer news.

I've spotted SNES Ghost Valley (1 to 3) at the top right corner of the map, in front of the Theatre.
Have you seen more retro tracks ?

Gushen spotted in Direct
At roughly 34:07, in front of Bowser Jr. you can see a large blue blob, i believe this to be Gushen with its giant Bubble around it; you can even see it wiggling inside. ~ Pinapplelover1 [21:06 02/04/25]
Items not yet listed - Coin, Golden Mushroom, Gold Shell
I don't seem to be able to edit the main page, so I'll add the information here.
Coin - Trailed at 3:19 (MKW video), roulette at ~8:00 (NS2 Direct)
Golden Mushroom - Held at 1:59 (MKW), trailed at some point, roulette at some point (didn't write down timestamps, sorry)
Gold Shell - Already mentioned here, but not added yet. Thrown at 3:55 (MKW), roulette on nintendo.com (and I think somewhere in the NS2 Direct), trailed at 8:05 (NS2).
I also have screenshots of these and all other items on this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/MarioKartWorld/comments/1jpsby6/all_items_shown_so_far/

Barrel car?
Did anyone else see a "barrel car" on a road in the trailer? I remember it being in a shot with a big bridge. Harvstar (talk) 16:18, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
Additional Footage
When the Switch 2 team is talking about the specs, they show additional footage of Mario Kart World, such as Mario going across a body of water with Ty-Foos. They show even more when discussing the GameChat feature. Someone should probably look into/upload screenshots from these. (I can do it if necessary, just tell me so first.) Harvstar (talk) 16:22, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
Who is this character?
I was looking at footage of the Knockout Tour mode on the website, and I noticed an icon in the top right that I didn't recognize, between Toad and Toadette. A green head with a helmet and what looks like a duck bill, which to me seems like a new racer, I just have no clue who it could be assuming it's not someone we already know. - No, that's Lakitu wearing a racing helmet. Baby Luigi's in last. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:14, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
No, it's definitely Baby Luigi. Lakitu doesn't have an L emblem, and that's clearly Baby Luigi's nose. --Burb (talk) 17:16, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
- That's obviously not an "icon." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:03, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
It can't be Baby Luigi because he comes in 20th. I'm talking about whatever character came in 9th according to the scoreboard at the top. --AGamer64 (talk) 17:47, April 2, 2025 (EST)
Oh, in that case, Doc is right. It's Lakitu.--Burb (talk) 21:42, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
Veterans and Newcomers?
None of the other Mario Kart articles are formatted this way, and the "Veteran/Newcomer" naming thematic is a Smash Bros thing. All other Mario Kart pages lump the cast together and have "new" tags next to the new characters rather than separating them between old and new. Shouldn't this page do the same? --Burb (talk) 17:13, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
Wheel Customization
The Vehicles section of the article claims that "wheels are no longer customizable". I've seen no evidence of this. Does anyone have a source here? --Snorka (talk) 17:51, April 2, 2025 (EDT)

Should we start adding confirmed languages to the info box, same for Donkey Kong Bananza?
I know this may be a bit early, but since it was confirmed that this game would be playable in Brazilian Portuguese, I was wondering if I can start adding it into the info box along with English and Japanese?
I think we know it will also be playable in most of the Switch 2’s other supported languages (Dutch, French (Canada), French (France), German, Italian, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish (Latin America), Spanish (Spain) and Traditional Chinese), but it’s unknown if European Portuguese and Russian will also be supported, as well as any other new language if added onto Switch 2.
EDIT: The European pages confirm Russian as a supported language, but still unknown if European Portuguese will be. If I had to guess, probably will, but I won’t add it until it’s confirmed. CarlosYoshiBoi (talk) 16:02, April 2, 2025 (PST)
Boshi
There was an entry on the references section mentioning the dark blue Yoshi skin being based on Boshi-
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars: One of Yoshi's costumes is based on the appearance of Boshi.
-but it was removed for being "an assumption", but I feel like it's pretty obvious it's inspired by Boshi? The sunglasses, dark blue skin, and red spiked collar are all traits of Boshi. If it were the light blue Yoshi or a different color or whatever, then sure, it's not Boshi, but I feel like this is a deliberate reference/homage.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by SuperGeno1996 (talk).
The skin has features of Boshi, but there's also enough differences in the design to make the intent questionable. You're honing in on the similarities while disregarding the differences.--Burb (talk) 21:48, April 2, 2025 (EDT)
- I remember seeing this Yoshi costume the first time watching the Direct but I can't find the scene again for the life of me. But I think it's a clear reference to Boshi by the dark blue colour and he has the same design of red, spiked collar. That's not saying it's exactly Boshi, but I think the collar would be a clear-enough reference (if I could just find a clear image of it), compared to if it were just sunglasses or something. MarioComix (talk) 04:48, April 3, 2025 (EDT)
- My two cents? The red collar with white spikes is suspect, but if you look carefully, the design looks more derived from Bowser's than Boshi's. It's also too soon to tell if this costume has its own palette swaps. If it turns out to be specific to this color of Yoshi, then the similarity can be noted, but it'd just be a loose reference. Note that the Direct otherwise has zero reference to the Super Mario RPG remake, despite all the other Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:50, April 3, 2025 (EDT)

Hi, sorry, I found 4 Daisy Costumes not in the article yet, and 2 missing for Baby Daisy! I don't know how to add an image directly here so I just made a Google Site!
