Merge to game article

These are just levels in a video game. Most game pages choose to have the list of levels as part of the game article, including the page for the original Yoshi's Woolly World. I think this article can similarly fit in the Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World article as just a very elaborate new feature in it's own section. Salmancer (talk) 11:50, September 6, 2024 (EDT)

We have separate articles for worlds and modes that include a level list despite nearly all of our game articles also including a level list for those worlds and modes. Poochy Dash also has unique levels that play rather differently from the regular levels. The article also contains a list of Poochy designs that could be unlocked within Poochy Dash (although most of them require usage of the Poochy amiibo), which would be weird to implement on the P&YWW page itself considering the Yoshi designs list is also a separate article instead of being merged to a game article. Place the designs under the area they are accessed from, the Poochy Hut. Which I'd argue is in gameplay terms the location of all these courses, even if that is not where they are in story terms. Salmancer (talk) 21:12, December 27, 2024 (EST)
I'd also point out the designs of Poochy function both inside and outside of this mode mode, so having the list as part of this mode is in one sense kind of weird organizationally. Salmancer (talk) 23:18, January 4, 2025 (EST)

Slide vs Crouch

Block Super Mario World.png This talk page or section has a conflict or question that needs to be answered. Please try to help and resolve the issue by leaving a comment.

Is Poochy sliding or crouching? Game says slide, digital instruction manual says crouch. This matters, because slide and crouch are different pages. Which source wins? Salmancer (talk) 08:29, December 28, 2024 (EST)

Poochy being quadruped really doesn't help, neither does how crouching in most Mario games additionally functions as a slide. Salmancer (talk) 10:39, December 28, 2024 (EST)

MarioWiki:Naming says "If there is inconsistency between the manual and the game itself regarding a name, the game's version takes precedence." Normally I'd argue that this policy is only about what to call things and not how to organise them, but in this case I can't really think of another way to pick between the two. So I'd say slide (though we should still note on the page that it's called crouch in the manual). Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 11:27, January 22, 2025 (EST)

Modes are usually not split from the game they are in, with couple of exceptions:

  1. The mode reappears frequently and comparisons are in order: Battle, Variety Towers, Workshop (Mario vs. Donkey Kong series)
  2. The mode trips "whole other game in this game" clause, established in the overview trailer of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions for Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser and extending to Bowser Jr.'s Journey and Bowser's Fury.
  3. The mode is complex, and may or may not involve tabluar data: Super Duel Mode, Coin Rush, Snapshot Mode (has galleries, which are tables without borders), or Test for the Best (the only Mario Party 8 mode to not be merged with the game's article). ScareScraper could also be considered to count, but it being a location is also messing with the detector so I will not look into it too deeply.

Poochy Dash doesn't remotely approach 1 or 2, and I'm making the case that it shouldn't qualify for 3. Why? The tables Poochy Dash has are in the wrong article. Poochy Dash is contained within the Poochy Hut. The Poochy Hut is a wrapper for the entire mode, and all the courses within it. The Poochy Hut is a non-world entity functioning as a world, therefore it should have a list of all courses accessed from it in the same way World 1 (Yoshi's Woolly World) does. (You may not remember this, but using Poochy Dash shortcut on the Touch Screen then exiting Poochy Dash has the player exit the Poochy Hut. The only other way into that menu is to enter the Poochy Hut, meaning Poochy Dash from a gameplay standpoint takes place within the Poochy Hut.) The designs for Poochy are accessed from the Poochy Plaza. The Poochy Plaza is a room of the Poochy Hut, in the same way Reknitted Yoshi is room of the Yoshi Hut. As established by Crazy Cap, the items/costumes/whatever granted by a place can go in the article of the place.

With these two tables bumped to their rightful homes, what's left on Poochy Dash? A basic autorunning platformer with sliding, sans damage, that doesn't quite line up with the basic mechanics of Yoshi's Woolly World? That has a bonus bead collecting mode and a time attack mode? (I'm being generous with "time attack mode"; the official website says it a mode.) Pssh, Super Mario Wiki handles more complex modes in the same article as their base game. See Super Mario Run's Kingdom Builder and Remix 10 modes or WarioWare Gold's WarioWatch.

One counterargument is that Poochy Dash is actually a minigame, which would grant it an article on the same grounds all levels have articles. But Poochy Dash, to my knowledge, has only been described a mode. In fact, its courses have been described as "extra stages". Which is what they are: extra stages with a new way to play them. Ah, if only Poochy Dash was actually a Poochy Pup based real time strategy game, then there would be cause to dedicate an entire other article for them.

Should this pass, gameplay information would be moved a dedicated section on Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, which would also contain a list of courses. All other data, which is basically a fancy way of saying the table of courses that displays their missions and the table of Poochy designs, would be moved to Poochy Hut.

To the Doghouse!: Merge Poochy Dash into other articles

  1. Salmancer (talk) It's Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, not Yoshi's Woolly World + Poochy Dash.

Out for a Walk: Do not merge Poochy Dash

  1. PrincessPeachFan (talk) Grrr! No way, we have articles for Minion Quest, Bowser Jr's Journey and Bowser's Fury as you mentioned. Not to mention, this have unique levels and mechanics as pointed out in the first section.

Fetch! Comments (Merge Poochy Dash to other articles.)

Oh and minor aside: Captain Toad's Adventures are legally a special kind of course and not a mode, as per 3D World's manual. Despite appearing comparable, these courses are more like Mystery Houses and Enemy Battles so the status of Captain Toad's Adventures is not important to this proposal. It's really more of a "we curveballed the rules for a set of courses" in the same way the levels involving Mini-Mario in Mario vs Donkey Kong do, only that the curveball additionally involves swapping the player character. Salmancer (talk) 09:33, January 22, 2025 (EST)

Thing is, it's still a unique mode and it's not really a "mini-game" per se as the only thing that gets unlocked is a Gold Rush if you get a bonus flower from the goal roulette. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 10:18, January 22, 2025 (EST)
