Atari, Inc. was an American company that focused on game development and home computers, founded in 1972 by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney. It published many ports of Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Mario Bros. for home computers. Aside from ports from the Super Mario franchise and Donkey Kong franchise, Atari, Inc. is also known for games such as Pong. Atari, Inc. became defunct in 1992; despite this, two successor companies under the Atari brand name remained extant: Atari Corporation and Atari Games. A third company under the Atari brand name that used the same name as Atari, Inc. was later founded in 1993.[citation needed] Atari Corporation and Atari Games later went defunct in 1996[1] and 2002 respectively.[citation needed]
