Konami is a third-party company that has made two games of the Super Mario franchise: Mario Roulette and Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. Konami also produces the Metal Gear series, which features Solid Snake as one of the main characters and occasionally has Mario and/or Yoshi appear in cameos. Snake appears as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Another of the company's franchises, Castlevania, is also represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with Simon Belmont and Richter Belmont as playable characters.
In April 2005, Konami became the controlling shareholder of Hudson Soft, which, at the time, developed the Mario Party series for Nintendo. In April 2011, Konami acquired the rest of Hudson, making Hudson a subsidiary of Konami. On March 1, 2012, Konami merged Hudson with Konami Digital Entertainment, Konami's flagship subsidiary, with the latter ending up as the surviving entity; consequently, Nintendo Cube, which most former Hudson employees have migrated to, has been the developer of the Mario Party series since Mario Party 9.
