Bear Wario is an original transformation that Wario takes in chapter 5 of Super Mario-kun Volume 11.
While traversing a cave, Mario, Yoshi, and Wario are attacked by a Demon Bat, who intend to use its poisonous tail to turn Mario into a devil. Mario dodges the attack and Wario is hit instead, placing him in a bear costume. The Demon Bat claims to be a novice in casting curses and made a mistake (the joke being the similarity between the Japanese words for "devil", 「あくま」 (akuma), and "bear", 「くま」 (kuma)). Apart from the costume, Wario does not change at all or gain any new powers, and turns back to normal after obtaining a Viking helmet later in the chapter.
