Bear Wario is an original transformation that Wario takes in chapter 5 of Super Mario-kun Volume 11.
While traversing a cave, Mario, Yoshi, and Wario are attacked by a Demon Bat, who intend to use its poisonous tail to turn Mario into a devil. Mario dodges the attack and Wario is the one to be hit, but he is instead turned to a costumed bear.
The Demon Bat explains to be a novice in casting curses, so he made a mistake (the joke being the similarity between the Japanese words for "devil", "あくま", akuma; and "bear", "くま", kuma). Apart from the costume, Wario has not changed at all and has not gained any powers and he is back to normal after he grabs a Viking helmet later in the chapter.
