First appearance | Super Mario-kun Volume 10 (1994) |
Chirako is a female Rex with hair, a ribbon, back spines, and a dress that appears only in two chapters of Super Mario-kun Volume 10. Initially thought as a replacement love interest for Yoshi, after the death of Birdo in volume 8 and her reincarnation into a fairy in volume 9, she was then dismissed after Birdo returned to the scenes in Wario's Woods and in the following volume.
She is introduced in chapter 9, when Princess Peach invites her for a matchmaking date with Yoshi, suggesting him to bring her the newest issue of her favorite magazine, CoroCoro Comic. Yoshi and Mario go to the nearest bookstore, but due to the snow storm, they find it close. In the middle of the snow, they also find Chirako, who explains she escaped from her home island, after Wario attacked her village. Just then, Wario appears and traps them in a pit with Tetriminos in hope of freezing them under the blocks, but Mario manages to free them.
In the next chapter, Mario, Yoshi, and Chirako use the Marine Pop to reach the island and save the inhabitants. After rescuing the citizens buried in the sand, the trio also finds Wario tied up and de-powered: after Wario left them in the pit, and he returned to plunder the island undisturbed, the Brown Sugar Pirates also had the same idea and stole all the treasures of the island, including a giant golden statue of Peach. Uniting their forces, Wario, Yoshi, and Mario stops the Pirate Gooms on the island and promise to return with the stolen treasures, beginning the Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 story arc. After that, Chirako is never seen again.
