Chompworks Galaxy is a galaxy appearing in the game Super Mario Galaxy 2. It is the only galaxy to revolve around the use of the Spring Mushroom. Gearmos inhabit the area. Chomps, as the galaxy's name implies, are the most common enemy here, usually blocking the path to a Launch Star. There are also revolving platforms that resemble bolts that Mario must traverse to gain the Power Star. There are several Star Bit constellations that are shaped like Chomps.

Planets

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all names are unofficial.

Starting Planet

Mario on the Starting Planet.

The Starting Planet is separated into two sections. On the bottom portion, there are a few Gearmos, a couple Octoombas, and a hole with the figure of a Chomp above it. If a Chomp is lead into this hole, it reveals a Launch Star. At the top portion, Chomps roll in a straight line, crashing into a wall. The Comet Medal is found above the Chomps. During the Spring into the Chompworks mission, a Spring Mushroom can be found on the bottom and the Launch Star is located at the top.

Rolling Chomps Planet

Mario on the Rolling Chomps Planet.

This planet is surrounded by lava. During the Where the Chomps Are Made of Gold mission, the planet has one large Chomp generator. To the right are some cubical platforms that have Small Chomps moving in a circular path. There is a Warp Pipe and a Launch Star there as well. During the Spring into the Chompworks mission, the cubical platforms are eliminated and the player can travel on top of the large Chomp generator. Atop this generator is another path with a smaller generator and a Launch Star.

Flipping Platforms Planet

Mario on the Flipping Platforms Planet.

Just like in the Flip-Swap Galaxy, this planet features some Red-Blue Panels, but only in small sections. There are also platforms that tilt to the side that the player is standing on, much like a seesaw. The player has to use the flip and tilt platforms to make the Chomp enter the Chomp Hole and reveal a Launch Star. Octoombas can be found on this planet as well.

Lava Chomp Planet

This planet is also covered in lava and is in the shape of a circle. A piece of metal forms the zig-zag shape of a Chomp's mouth. This planet is infested with Goombeetles. Gold Chomps spawn from the lava puddle in the back of the planet and it must be brought to a hole in the ground on the other side of the planet. During the Cosmic Clones in the Chompworks mission, many Cosmic Clones infest the area.

Chomp Screw Planets

A Chomp Screw Planet.

These two planets are inaccessible. They can be seen when leaving the Flipping Platforms Planet in Where the Chomps Are Made of Gold, or while Mario flies toward the Castle Planet in Spring into the Chompworks. They consist of nothing more than two spinning circular gear-like platforms (one green and one yellow) that contain four Chomps each, which are connected by a large screw running directly through the center of the planet.

Spring Tower Planet

The Spring Tower Planet is shaped like a castle and is visited only during the Spring into the Chompworks mission. This planet has some platforms that help Spring Mario reach the top and grab the Power Star. Some of them are shaped like nuts that rotate in a circular fashion while there are some platforms that move sideways or up and down. The enemies encountered here are Paragoombas. The farthest right and left sides feature conical towers shaped like drills. This planet strongly resembles the Tower Planet from the Fluffy Bluff Galaxy.

Green Stars

Green Star 1

Luigi near the first Green Star.

The player redoes the Where the Chomps Are Made of Gold mission. The first Green Power Star is located on the Starting Planet. It is placed outside of the area, near the platform of rolling Chomps. The player has to avoid the Chomps and make it to the start of the Chomp generator. They should perform a long jump to reach the Green Star thereafter.

Green Star 2

Luigi about to collect the second Green Star.

The player redoes the Where the Chomps Are Made of Gold mission once again. This time, the second Green Star is located on the roof of the Flipping Platforms Planet. The star is visible when using the Launch Star to travel from the second planet to the third planet, though once on the third planet the star is out of view. To reach the Star, the player can either side-somersault towards the wall, wall-jump off the wall and then spin backwards to the star, triple-jump towards the wall and then Spin Jump into the Star, or backwards-somersault to the star.

Green Star 3

Spring Luigi just misses the star.

The player redoes the Spring into the Chompworks mission. The player should get to the Spring Tower Planet and reach the top with the help of the Spring Mushroom. Near the top, the player should get some aerial gain and head towards the right of the planet, hopefully landing on the cone-shaped dome. The player should then perform a spring jump as Spring Mario or Luigi to get this star.

Alternatively, one can skip using the Spring Mushroom and climb up to the area with the elevator via Back Flips and Wall Jumps, then Long Jump to the star.

Trivia

The Chomp plate floating in space.
  • While Mario is standing near the switch on the Starting Planet, one of the pressure plates that a Chomp needs to land in can be seen floating out in space, although it is inaccessible.
  • Occasionally while in first-person view on the roof of the Flipping Platforms Planet, the Chomp Screw Planets vanishes when looking in specific directions.
