Haunting the Howling Tower is the second mission of the Boo Moon Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2. The mission introduces the Boo Mushroom power-up, and is the only mission in the game where the power-up is used.

Mission[edit]

The player begins again on the dark Starting Planet. At first, the path the player needs to follow is the same as in the previous mission, though where the Launch Star used to be is now an open wall. Moving through the new pathway, taking the left path at the first split and the right path at the next, past a Bowser Jr. and then a Bowser statue. In the direction the Bowser statue is facing is a wall that will open, revealing a path to a Warp Pipe, which will take the player to the Howling Tower.

In the Howling Tower, the player needs to use the Boo Mushroom to phase through gates and float up pathways, avoiding Octoboos and Spinecones. In many areas, the player will be pushed by gusts of wind, which will cause them to move through the area quickly. If the player ends up taking damage, there is usually another Boo Mushroom found nearby they can regain. Near the end is a narrow passageway with Octoboos, followed by more Octoboos circling the Power Star.
