- Not to be confused with Penpen.
Penguins[1][2][3] are enemies found in Wario Land II, where they are members of the Black Sugar Gang. They look like bipedal penguins with menacing beaks and bandanas tied around their heads.
In Western releases, penguins carry large black balls with handles (also called "insanity bombs"),[1] which they throw at Wario if he gets in their range; in the Japanese release, penguins hold on to beer mugs, and they instead try to splash alcohol on him. Despite the regional difference, a few Prima Games guides published after the Game Boy Color release still show a screenshot of a penguin holding a beer mug.[4][5] In either case, if the projectile hits Wario, he will become dizzy, making it harder for the player to control him. As penguins mostly appear in areas with small platforms and many opportunities to fall down a pit, there is also always a body of water near them that can be used to cure the status ailment they evoke.
