Template:SSB Infobox King Dedede is the self-proclaimed king of Dream Land, a rival and frequent antagonist of Kirby however he has actually helped Kirby lots of times. He first appeared in Kirby Dream Land, and is from the Kirby series. He was meant to be playable in the original Super Smash Bros., but was left due to time constraints. However, Dedede finally got to be playable in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, acting as a large and heavy character, like Bowser and Donkey Kong.

Meta Knight works for King DeDeDe during the games however, many times, Meta Knight has betrayed DeDeDe. DeDeDe's Final Smash move is Waddle Dee Army. He can also use a Hammer, even holding the Hammer around with him for the entire match. King Dedede will be able to multi-jump, like Kirby, Jigglypuff, Pit, Pokémon Trainer's Charizard and Meta Knight.

Template:Spoiler In the Subspace Emissary, he doesn't appear to be working for Subspace however is still a villain and is turning everyone into trophies. He is first seen attacking Luigi with his mallet and turning him into a trophy. However, Wario and his car with the Princess (Princess Peach or Princess Zelda) trophy and Ness trophy come a long. Dedede hides and leaves the Luigi trophy out in the open. Wario takes it but Dedede's Waddle Dees come and attack Wario. Wario lets go of the Luigi trophy, which Dedede takes and he steals Wario's car and drvies off with the Princess trophy and Ness trophy.

In his castle, he puts a cap/badge on all the trophies he collected. But soon, Mario and the others come in and start saving the trophies. Pit then attacks King Dedede and turns him into a trophy. However Bowser also starts attacking the others and after some fighting, Bowser escapes with the princess trophy (who dropped the cap, Dedede put on her) and Mario, Link, Pit, Yoshi and Kirby run away leaving the Dedede, Luigi and Ness trophies behind. Later, King Dedede's castle is blown up by the Subspace Bomb. However the Dedede, Luigi and Ness trophies manage to survive. Meanwhile, Kirby finds the other DeDeDe cap that the princess dropped and swallows it.

The caps actually have the power to turns trophies back to life after some time. After Taboo turns everyone into trophies, the caps start working and they turn Luigi, Ness and Dedede back to life. King Dedede then decides to help Ness and Luigi save everyone. Meanwhile, Kirby who swallowed the cap is turned back to life. The four go around turning everyone back to life-when Dedede turns Bowser back to life, Bowser attacks. However Dedede turns him back into a trophy and then back to life again. Bowser is about to attack again but DeDeDe lightly hits him in the nose.

Bowser then runs off to attack the Ganondorf trophy because Ganondorf was the one who had turned Bowser into a trophy in the first place. After they are all turned back, everyone, including DeDeDe fights Taboo in the Final Destionation. After Taboo is defeated, the Smash Bros. World returns to its normal state and Taboo dies. Trophy Description in Super Smash Bros. Melee

Dedede's the self-proclaimed king of Dream Land. While he says he's king, Dedede performs no administrative functions and the citizens of Dream Land continue to live as they always have. He's able to suck in air and fly like Kirby does, but only as a result of the vigorous training he undertook after being bested by Kirby.

Trophy Description in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

King Dedede

The self-styled king of the amazingly peaceful Dream Land. He continually does things unbecoming a king, like stealing the kingdom's food supplies or all the stars from the sky. He's not all bad, though, and sometimes performs good deeds. While he and Kirby often battle, they've been known to compete good-naturedly at speed-eating contests and minigames.

King Dedede (Final Smash)

King Dedede's Final Smash. He whistles, and an army of Gordos, Waddle Dees, and Waddle Doos rain down and rampage, pummeling all in their way. After a bit, they'll pack it in and hit the road. Any left can be forcibly removed. They are fast and numerous, which makes it difficult to get through their ranks without taking any damage.

Trivia

  • In the original Super Smash Bros., in the Dream Land stage, Dedede would fly in the background of the stage, this could also be seen when Dream Land returned as a classic stage for Super Smash Bros. Melee.
  • King Dedede appeared in the Kirby Segment in the educational video, Mario Kirby Masterpiece
  • King Dedede also appears in the Nintendo Monopoly.
  • One of King Dedede's plots in the animated series Kirby: Right Back at Ya! (to be more exact, in the episode "Un-Reality TV") is remarkably similar to Bowser's plot in the Super Mario World episode "Rock TV".
