Assist Trophy

Come to think about it, they're very similar to Pokeballs. Should We mention that?--Aipom_Banana_2.gif Aipom 424.png--

Two things. 1:We should probably mention that it's like Pokeball with wider variety. 2:Should we have a template of Assist Trophies (possibly Poke Balls, too).--Toa Waluigi 09:08, 2 July 2007 (EDT)

We don't have an article on every Pokemon, yet we're getting an article for every Assist Trophy character... I guess the Assist Trophy template is plausible. -- Booster

I think the Assist Trophy articles should just be merged into a single article, I mean, they really don't seem any different then Pokemon. -- Sir Grodus

True that, merging.Knife (talk) 18:19, 14 July 2007 (EDT)

Yeah, merging sounds like a good idea My Bloody Valentine

If all the Assist Trophy articles are merged here, maybe we could make some sort of table, having they're names, effects, an image and, if possible, rarerity; something similar to this Bowser#Alter-egos, but more expansive. -- Sir Grodus

Or maybe more like the Pokemon article.Knife (talk) 21:51, 14 July 2007 (EDT)

Yeah, that's a reasonable idea: Wait for the game to come out! -Dodo

Yeah, that could be done. -- Sir Grodus

Both Samurai Goro and Dr. Wright have trophies in Melee. Should we post their info somewhere here? Dodo

I vote for Aisst Trophies and all Pokemon getting their own articles. THAT IS MY OPINION KILL ME IF YOU WANT Paper Jorge, the one who gives paper cuts.
I think so too, but I'm not gonna fight the majority. -Dodo

Dodo: Then again every Pokemon in Melee has a Trophy too, but we didn't list them. Maybe we should stick every Trophy description on the Trophy page.
PJ: Yeah, any reasons backing your opinion?
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Knife (talk).

Well, Mr. I-don't-sign, that is my opinion. They're characters like Redead and Like Likes. I don't see why not have aritlces for them. Paper Jorge, the one who gives paper cuts.
We are not Smashwiki. So, we do not need seperate articles for the Assist Trophy or Pokemon. Additionally, that's what I suggested, but, putting Trophy Bios on the actual Trophy page would be messy. My Bloody Valentine

I think they should be seperate, they each do a unique effect. Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif

So do Pokemon. -- Sir Grodus

Well then, here's an idea for the trophies; Make a seperate page for the descriptions. -Ye Olde Dodo

That sounds good. My Bloody Valentine

Let's wait and see how many Assist Trophies are actually used. There will most likely be more Assist Trophies than Pokemon, but let's leave them all on one page for now. We can't give too much focus to the crossover series, especially one that isn't released yet.Knife (talk) 00:21, 16 July 2007 (EDT)

Oh, come on. I don't want to unmerge later. And I was going to give each Pokemon its own article. Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif

OK, here is my opinion. Do not make seperate articles. It won't work, cos' most of the info will not be from the Marioverse. I also completely agree with Knife. My Bloody Valentine

We should have a poll on this issue. And the decision can be changed when the game has been released. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 06:47, 16 July 2007 (EDT)
Good idea. My Bloody Valentine

  5. Caith_Sith - This is too old, but well... Assist Trophy are characters, or at least "special moves", and affect the gameplay, so in my opinion, that characters needs an separate article... for example, all Final Smash moves are in one article and separate... i think this is the right way... Yes, we need to decide now. It can't be that action for both solutions is taken. There has to be a unique policy. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 11:13, 16 July 2007 (EDT)

I feel that they should get seperate articles. (Yes, I signed with my full username.) -Dodo

I think that both the Assist Trophies and Pokemon are worthy of seperate articles. This isn't Wikipedia, which has a super strict "importance policy". Sure, we have an importance policy of our own, but if you read it go down to the "Penalties" section, you'll find, in bold text: Also, there are no article limits for any area of focus. - Booster.

Then maybe you should vote...Knife (talk) 17:20, 16 July 2007 (EDT)

Uh, lemme get this straight. The opposed won, and we still seperated the articles? -DODO

OK, Now THAT was stupid. C'MON, opposed won, and you people STILL made the articles? I am bringing this to Main Page, where we will get the real Results. My Bloody Valentine
Hey, don't blame me. I just spectated.

Wha? Oh, sorry, I wasn't pointing that at you, I was pointing that quote to whoever made those articles. Sorry if you felt I was yelling at you. My Bloody Valentine

Weird Glitch

Why won't {{SSB Item Infobox}} work on this page?Knife (talk) 00:39, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Next time you copy a template, make sure you know how it works. The default width was 220px, but the max image width is 179px, so you have to define {{{width}}} → 179 to get the right-sized image. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 00:45, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

KirbySeries

should we add Category:Kirby Series to this page, since it has Knuckle Joe on it? Or make Knuckle Joe have the category or something. Max2 (talk)

Put it on the Knuckle Joe page, not the Assist Trophy page. My Bloody Valentine

Devil

They cut out the Tamagon trophy from Devil World in Melee because of Satanism in the versions outside Japan, now they're putting that Devil in. Does that mean rules aren't that strict nowadays, or will this push the ESRB rating? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 04:06, 14 August 2007 (EDT)

Oh dear goodness, you're right. This is likely to be higher rated. Or, they just couldn't care anymore :P We'll soon see. My Bloody Valentine
They might take him out of the American version. Or they'll rate the game "M". papertoycf7.gif Paper Jorge! I give paper cuts so stand back! papertoycf7.gif I see nothing wrong with an M rating...

I don't think one demon will make the whole game rated M.Knife (talk) 14:35, 14 August 2007 (EDT) Although Zero Suit Samus might.

IGN Movie Assist

There's some assist in the IGN video on the Castle Siege stage I can't identify. It's sort of pink. Does anyone know? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 10:54, 12 October 2007 (EDT)

Is Jill, from Drill Dozer. Is now on the list. Huh... i still thinking that the Assist Trophy characters needs separate articles :(--Caith Sith 10:57, 12 October 2007 (EDT)

Metroid

Gamespot's preview mentions a Metroid appearing as an assist. Should it be listed? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 17:11, 13 October 2007 (EDT)

We listed Gardevoir on the Pokémon article, and we know nothing about what that Pokémon does in the game, so I think Metroid should go here. My Bloody Valentine

Individual Articles?

I was wondering: since itmes such as Food currently have their own articles, can the assist trophy characters have articles as well? Stumpers! 21:54, 21 October 2007 (EDT)

These guys are too minor. You gonna make articles on these guys, then you have to make articles on the Pokémon too. My Bloody Valentine
So, if we did both, it would be acceptable? Ooof. That's a heavy load for one person... I may make use of the Trouble Center after all. We'll see. Stumpers! 23:30, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
Uh, I meant that we cannot make articles on these guys, as if you do that, the Pokémon should have articles, and those articles would be very tiny. My Bloody Valentine
Really, no more tiny than Peppy Hare, Ultimate Chimera or Polar Bear for example :P.--Caith Sith 12:32, 22 October 2007 (EDT)
We shouldn't take action before it is clearly decided. But the vote above is split, so we can't. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 12:56, 22 October 2007 (EDT)
And when we do another poll? :/ --Caith Sith 13:03, 22 October 2007 (EDT)

Maybe we should wait for the actual game to come out. Then we can decide based on actual gameplay. -- Son of Suns

Well, Brawl was launched in Japan and the info about the game is extense. So... we can reopen the question... individual articles for the Assist Trophies?--Caith Sith 06:45, 1 February 2008 (EST)
Only if you would agree on separate articles for each Pokémon...no, I don't think they're major enough. But the fact that the game is out didn't give us information yet on how many assists there will actually be, so this question can't be answered still. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 08:17, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Well, the game is out. What about this subjet? We can do individual articles?--Caith Sith 04:54, 26 March 2008 (EDT)

My vote is... No. My Bloody Valentine

Shadow the Hedgehog

This image is a joke image submitted to the Dojo!!, but, it still shows a clearer view of Shadow's Assist Attack, moreso than our current image on this article. Should we upload it, or should we leave it because its a joke image? My Bloody Valentine

Upload. EDIT: Don't, it doesn't show that he slows down anything, just makes a purple light. Tadaa!2.gifPlumberTadaaa!.gif 19:38, 22 March 2008 (EDT)

Devil image

Why is the image for the Devil a shot of his trophy instead of a gameplay-related screenshot, like for the other Assist Trophies? --Grandy02 14:30, 8 December 2008 (EST)

Split all Assist Trophies into separate articles

Template:SettledTPP Template:ProposalOutcome If you look a few headers above, you will see another proposal like this one that failed. But each of the assist trophies deserve their own article. First of all, they're items, and I never saw items being merged together. Second, we've made articles on stuff more minor then assist trophies, like items only gotten in a small side quest (Wrestling Mag) and items that have a one-time use (Elevator Key), so I don't see how come all of the assist trophies don't have an article. Not the best reasons, but I'm something will be worked out.

Split Assist Trophies
  1. Reversinator (talk) Per proposal.
Keep as it is
  1. Knife (talk) - All of the assist trophies are categorized under one item, therefore they should remain on one article. I see no advantage to splitting them.
  2. Cobold (talk) - I agree with Knife.
  3. Supermariofan14 (talk) - Splitting them would cause stubs.
  4. Fawfulfury65 (talk) Per Supermariofan14. Spliting them all will destroy a FA.
  5. Gamefreak75 (talk) Per all.
  6. Walkazo (talk) - Per all.
  7. Garlic Man (talk) - Per all.
  8. Pseudo-dino (talk) It's like creating a seperate page for each color Toad.
  9. M&SG (talk) - Are you kidding me?! A lot of the Assist Trophies don't even need their own article. Unless the Assist Trophy is part of the Mario Universe, forget it.
Comments

They are not on individual articles because they have the same appearance when you pick them up, just like all the Pokémon, would you have those split as well? - Cobold (talk · contribs) 08:53, 14 January 2010 (EST)

Someone needs to archive this. I will help the mariowiki a lot (talk)

Melee Trophy Descriptions

I personally think including the Melee trophy information for the Assist Trophies in Brawl is highly irrelevant. Assist Trophies first appeared in Brawl. There is no relation between the trophies in Melee and the Assist trophies in Brawl. Even a category in Brawl lists the Assist Trophies by their category. BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 16:45, 26 September 2013 (EDT)

Yes, the trophies from Melee aren't relevant to the actual concept of Assist Trophies. However, that's not the point. These trophies are of characters that appear in Assist Trophies. That's the entire reason for including Trophies in lists; because of the characters. Radio conversation characters list trophies for all the characters that have them, Pokémon lists every trophy of every Pokemon, and I'm sure there are other examples. It doesn't matter that the trophies of Melee were from before they were included in assist trophies, they are still trophies of the characters, and thus, deserve to be listed. Heck, by your logic, we should also be deleting all of the Brawl trophies excluding the one specifically about Assist Trophies. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Those articles shouldn't have trophy descriptions in the first place. It has nothing to do with the subject of the article and the only reason it is included is that only the characters are relevant. Assist Trophy is supposed to describe the characters that come out and do their thing. If it's the characters that you're worried about, the trophy descriptions for games that has no relation to Assist Trophies should be for their respective articles, not this one. Pokemon are Pokemon, they are not the same as Assist Trophies. It's like adding Pokemon to the Poke Ball article. And I backed up my reasoning on the Brawl Assist Trophies; I said it should remain because they are categorized in the game under "items" or "assist trophies" (my memory doesn't serve well). BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 17:01, 26 September 2013 (EDT)
Your main point of argument is that the trophies should solely be related to the concept of "Assist Trophies" (and for the record, the characters are classified under Assist Trophy), but... aren't the characters themselves part of this concept? Assist Trophies are meant for spawning certain characters, but who are these characters? Jeff, Waluigi, Andross, Tingle, Samurai Goroh, and all of the other people are what make up an Assist Trophy. They're just as relevant to the concept of an Assist Trophy as the item themselves. The same goes for those other two articles I mentioned: the radio conversations and the Pokemon would be nothing without the characters that make them up. That is precisely why we should include all related trophies. At this point, we're just battering each other with walls, should one of us make a proposal? Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Yeah, I agree on a proposal. I'm pretty burnt out from arguing anyway (not just here). BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 17:38, 26 September 2013 (EDT)
Then we'll settle this with a proposal. So, which of us should create it? I'm burnt out myself from a bunch of work I've been doing. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
I'll work on it. I'm free myself BabyLuigiFire.pngRay Trace(T|C) 17:48, 26 September 2013 (EDT)

Remove Melee Trophy Descriptions in Assist Trophy

Template:SettledTPP Template:ProposalOutcome Recently, Time Turner (talk) and I had a debate on whether to keep the Melee trophy descriptions in the article. We both present good arguments but we would like to settle this once and for all with a vote from the users. I for would like to remove the trophy descriptions Assist Trophy since the article is talking about the item itself rather than the characters involved in it. The only reason I'd keep the Brawl ones is that the game categorizes the trophies under "Items" or "Assist Trophies" (don't remember exactly) so therefore it should be covered.

Don't worry about consistency with other articles that suffer a similar situation (ie Radio conversation characters), they will be dealt with if the proposal passes.

Proposer: Baby Luigi (talk)

Remove

  1. Baby Luigi (talk) I removed this before with the same reasons. I personally think Melee trophy descriptions for a feature that first appeared in Brawl is simply just drawing a thin line of relation just because the characters are the same.
  2. Scr7 (talk) I have to agree with Baby Luigi here. The page is talking about the assist trophy item itself, so there's no reason to include trophy descriptions from a game that doesn't even have the item.
  3. Icemario11 (talk) Per all.
  4. LeftyGreenMario (talk) It's probably unfair that most things my sister argues on, I agree with it, but I think the Assist Trophy trophy information from Melee in this article is superfluous and probably serves better in the individual articles rather than this one.
  5. Mario4Ever (talk) Per Baby Luigi.
  6. Tails777 (talk) I'm gonna have to go with removing them on this. The point of the Assist Trophy article is to explain the effects of each individual Assist, not mainly to focus on the characters themselves so we don't need to place trophies from Melee here as well, Brawl's are good enough. That and per Baby Luigi.
  7. Yoshi876 (talk) Per all.
  8. Iggy Koopa Jr (talk) Unneeded.

Keep

  1. Time Turner (talk) Per everything that I've said in support of keeping the table.
  2. Randombob-omb4761 (talk) Per Time Turner.
  3. Tucayo (talk) - Per GD.

Change the smash symbols next to the name for characters from non-playable franchises to the new ellipsis

Currently, the names listed for each assist trophy contains a series symbol next to their name (for example, Waluigi has a mushroom for the Mario franchise). However, a fair chunk of these assist trophies hail from series that don’t have a stage or a playable character represented; thus, they currently use a smash bros cross logo next to their name. While this icon was used for miscellaneous content in for 3DS and for Wii U, it is no longer the case. The closest thing they have to a series icon is an ellipsis (...) as of Ultimate, being used for their spirits during team setup (but not when viewing them in the spirit list), as well as several songs representing said series being listed with said ellipsis.

It should be noted that Smashwiki currently uses an entirely different symbol because the admins are in agreement because according to them, it would cause readability issues, which is an entirely valid point (as much as I hate the one the choice they currently use). However, unlike Smashwiki, Mariowiki is focused on making things official, so using their symbol they use might thankfully be out of the question. Still gonna leave this up for discussion if anybody supports it.

Another thing I’d like to note is that the page for [Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]] lists assist characters in that game, but completely forgoes any sort of icon for assist characters from franchises without a playable character. So we should probably make it consistent, and wichever solution we find for this should probably be reflected for that page as well. 184.181.102.188 04:49, September 5, 2019 (EDT)
