The Beanstar is the protector of the Beanbean Kingdom in the Game Boy Advance title Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It is a green star which has the ability to grant wishes and fulfill anyone's greatest desires. In order to prevent such power from being used for evil, the Beanstar was cast into a deep sleep which could only be awoken by the voice of a pure and noble soul. In this day and age, Princess Peach is the one known to possess such a voice. This is realised by the witch Cackletta, and she sets out on a trip to the Mushroom Kingdom along with her accomplice, Fawful. Together, they disguise themselves as The Goodwill Ambassadors who come in the name of the Beanbean Kingdom. They bring a deceiving gift, which actually releases a harmful gas that steals Princess Peach's voice. Fleeing back to their kingdom, Cackletta and Fawful go forth in stealing the Beanstar from Beanbean Castle. Many of the royalists within the castle have always acted as guardians for the Beanstar, but the villains imprisoned them while they carried out the theft. Mario and Luigi are tipped off by Prince Peasley on the location of where Cackletta and Fawful plan to awaken the Beanstar, which is Woohoo Hooniversity.

The Bros. travel there to find that the villains have set up a room where three Peach-bots are positioned around the Beanstar, staying out of sight, they watch Cackletta pull out a remote control from her pocket. This remote control activates the Peach-bots, which are programmed to play a perfect copy of the stolen voice. With the robots activated, a high-pitched sound rings out within the room. For a few seconds, everything seems to be going to the villain's plan, but something strange and unexpected happens. The calm green of the Beanstar suddenly turns an angry shade of red, and the now enraged star begins to float up in the air. It soon comes crashing down to the ground several consecutive times, creating a hole in the floor with each bounce. Cackletta and Fawful make a rush to take cover. On the fifth bounce the floor gives in, sending the Beanstar and all three Peach-bots plummeting down to the floor below. One Peach-bot gets caught on the way down. It is revealed that the voice that got stolen was actually a fake, and it was organized that Birdo would take Peach's place when the ambassadors arrive. When the Beanstar seems likely to recover from the irritating voice, the final Peach-bot falls from the top floor of the Hooniversity, causing the Beanstar to be driven into a more intense rage. This time, it flies straight through the roof of the building and splits into four pieces, which are scattered around the kingdom.

Bowletta (the form Cackletta takes after possessing Bowser's body), contacts the group, demanding that the Bros. retrieve the four pieces of the Beanstar and bring the completed star to her. She has captured Princess Peach, and claims that she will return her in exchange for the Beanstar. When the four pieces have been recovered, Prince Peasley proposes that they just give Bowletta a Fake Beanstar, which he supplies the Bros. with. They travel to the drop-off point at Joke's End with both the fake and genuine Beanstar, but Fawful easily sees through their deception and takes the real one. The Bros. soon steal it back after organizing Luigi to wear a dress, disguising as Princess Peach. Falsely believing that the Princess that they captured was an imposter, Bowletta and Fawful then chase after the "real princess". While being held hostage, Luigi escapes with the Beanstar and returns to Beanbean Castle.
